Trump will eliminate US debt in eight years.
It would take half of the budget every year ($2T), would require massive lay-offs in government, massive changes to entitlements and a complete shutdown of pretty much everything else.
That’s okay though, cause he’s going to “renegotiate trade deals and renegotiate military deals”…in his first 100 days….

that is because there are a number of folks here that just do not want laws against things they like, but are more then happy to have laws against things they do not like. they do not THINK about the principle behind thier position, it is ultimately about how they “feel”. It doesn’t matter who they vote for today, that folks makes them just as dangerous as Justin, shillery et al.
Shamrock,
“heralding growth killing marginal tax rates over 50%”
We’re WELL over that now here in most (all?) provinces.
“Trump will eliminate US debt in eight years.”
These are the sorts of gratuitous statements that get cast around merrily in elections. The beauty of them for those on the stump (and Trump is by no means the only culprit here) is that they sound wonderful but are not subject to any validation at all.
For the record, I’m with “lance”. Even if elected, I don’t believe for one minute that Trump could or would eliminate the US debt in eight years.
Speaking of that debate, I really enjoyed watching Steyn put down Arbour. I also liked the way her partner abandoned her and more or less agreed with Steyn and Farage. It struck me as an example of Quebec (Trudeaupian) irrationality against the “Anglos”.
What kind of a deal?
You know, a deal deal!
One of my favorite movies yee of little faith. Nicely done.
All politicians promise they will do bigger things than they can deliver once elected. ( or intend on doing once elected )
That is how they get elected. That is how things have been for ever.
Trump is still the best choice, even if he delivers only one twentieth of what he promised.
All others will only sink the USA deeper.
Yes indeed we are, with NB heading the field at 58% top rate.
The difference so far is Chretien’s 54% was on taxable income over $60,000 ($90,000 in todays$), while today it hovers around $200,000. That number was just made up btw to get the maximum envy vote without bothering the two income sheeple of the 905 belt. IOW, the threshold is half what is was, no lots of room for taxaction. Remember, they only take “a little” at a time, but many times.
Death by a thousand taxes. We are in worse shape now with lower growth and boomers driving down productivity, draining healthcare and pensions.
Our kids think they’re running the show now so count on lots more pain since it will take a while before they understand that Harper isn’t so bad compared to the likes of daddy Trudeau, Chretien and now the cabin boy, given also we have enough overage hippies for whom math is too hard to contemplate.
Two thirds of society are either on the receiving end of tax largesse or are directing & benefitting from it. The producers are footing the bill. To the statists, there is always some rich person in the wings to pay for their decisions, like raising the minimum wage.
Some sucker working 24/7 in a restaurant is a rich tycoon being cheap with his poor employees. I can’t seem to find any evidence evil businesspeople imposed a carbon tax on them though. No doubt the socialists will find the required narrative just in time for the mediocracy to scrub the record.
Trudeau/Obama should be the end of the establishment bait & steal. Trump is the crude beginning of populist frustration with these overpromising underperformers. Too bad the GOP establishment still has enough wind in their sales to poison pill Trump and blame him for it as they milk the system.
Even if a Trump p[residency accomplished one quarter of what he hoped/predicted, America would be in FAR, FAR better shape than what it is today and where it’s headed if Trump doesn’t win.
I only wish Canada had a Trump waiting in the wings because after 12-16 years of Trudeau (remember he’s changing the election rules so only he can win) this country is going to be on the verge of collapse.
Barry doubled the debt under his watch. Even if he made a dent in the debt it would be progress.
