“It’s really none of Ontario’s business…. the answers no – we’ve worked for eight years to develop the Saskatchewan advantage,” Wall told Ottawa Now Host Evan Solomon on 580 CFRA. “I don’t want a level playing field for our province, I want to have this be the best place for companies to maintain jobs and to create new jobs and to invest.”
Find it here, look for “Brad Wall”.
D/load it here, 37 minute mark.

Progressive equivalence: level the playing field = lowest common denominator = statism = bad government = false narrative monarchy.
I wish he’d come right out call it for what it is… pure bullshit. Fortunately he’s a bit more tactful and refined.
But I hope he stands his ground on this one!
National carbon tax. Hmmm, I thought Trudeau promised to leave it up to the provinces to decide how to meet any AGW goals. Another broken election promise? I assume he’ll blame his advisors (all of whom are pro tax, pro CO2 rationing).
As for Ontario, why would anyone take advice from them? Their Green Energy Act has been a disaster for consumers and criticized as expensive and inefficient by its own auditors. They’ve also racked up debts and deficits like crazy and now spend a billion a month on debt servicing. Frankly, Ontario politicians need to get their own financial/energy act together before scolding anyone.
Funny how the “we’re all in this together” type arguments are only mentioned when it’s something Quebec and Ontario want and “FU, what’s in it for us?” when Alberta and Saskatchewan want something changed.
That’s the stupidity of taxing the source of products instead of the retail end. Is Alberta supposed to bear the guilt of product exported to the US. Asinine!
As a lifetime resident of Ontario – and someone who has never voted for ANY of the imbeciles who got us in to this mess – I concur completely with Mr. Wall’s stance. Good for him and good for Saskatchewan voters.
The least worst scenario would have ALL the provinces reject the carbon tax nonsense. Good luck with that. It’s a cash cow that gives them ‘thrills up their legs’.
My job and family are (so far) keeping me in Ontario but that could change if I found somewhere that I could go and get rid of the Liberal/NDP garbage. Pretty slim pickins’ in Canada.
Carbon taxes are a war on the poor.
Where are the activists on this?
PM Trulander wants things as his father did: fractured, impoverished and sub-standard.
For sake of argument, adding the carbon tax to the existing consumption tax (PST, GST) is better than the type of carbon tax they are proposing. First of all, consumption taxes are a good proxy for carbon consumption since almost every consumer product is either made of or transported by fossil fuels. It’s also progressive because those buying expensive and luxury items will pay a higher tax. So someone buying a Tesla would pay significantly more than a person buying a base model Corolla whereas a carbon tax may bump the price the same amount despite the difference in retail price. Second, no need to create a separate bureaucracy – it would cost nothing to add 1% to the PST but how much for a new department specifically for carbon taxes (and, eventually subsidies, exemptions, redistribution). Finally Canada’s existing consumption taxes protect the poor by exempting some items and giving out rebates. A carbon tax, OTOH, is extremely regressive and hurts the poor disproportionately.
I’m waiting for someone to tell me what level of tax to pay to make the weather nice. It’s been cold here lately, maybe I’ve paid too much.
To all the trolls that come here and who support the Liberals and Greenies, here is a little bit of free advice. When the people you support in government start talking a carbon tax to “level the playing field” it just means that they are going escalate the taxes across the board. A carbon consumption tax or a ‘tax at the source’ simple means that you the taxpayer are going to pay all the freight, ergo your standard of living will decline. Think about it, everyone on the production end of a product will right off the tax as a cost of production which is passed on to the final consumer by higher costs for the produced product, so it’s you who will be paying all the taxes, you! You have to be some kind of special stupid if you don’t understand this basic fact of business, Oh! right I forgot, you trolls are a special kind of stupid. Pardon me for trying to educate you.
Brad Wall is rock star!
And we have a cabal of morons here in once-prosperous Alberta. The Ontario environment minister can stuff it. As noted above, ON has utterly mismanaged their electricity delivery. And that moron Shannon Phillips is destroying a pretty decent power system here.
Go Brad. Shames these bi*ches in Alberta.
I heard the other day where they said a very high percentage of people are only $200 away from not being able to pay their bills. The socialists must have heard that too and want to make sure they get that $200 as well. I am so sick of government, I could puke.
Sound of shiny hoofbeats off in the distance, could it be…?
A woman who I know in Ontario told me her bedroom was at 6 C. I asked her why her bedroom was so cold. She said her electricity bill was already $300 a month and she could not afford to pay more so she turns down her heat at night and uses lots of blankets. I think 6 C is a bit low but that is all the heat she can afford. This is the socialist paradise that Ontario has become. Ontario has lost all it’s manufacturing, is now losing its retail and then restaurants will go. There are no jobs and more people are leaving the province than our moving to it. The only people moving in are those “soon to be frozen” Syrians.
Carbon taxes of any sort are a “tax on life itself”, as most life on this planet is carbon based. A self imposed government tax on your continued existence. A penalty for actually daring to live. There is no government, anywhere that has this mandate to rule over you.
Let’s face it. Our “elites” want you & yours DEAD. If you are not perceived to be contributing, then they want you gone. Preferably by your own hand, as they engineer the criteria that will starve you economically & literally, in the end. If you don’t comply willingly, they will go about engineering your demise by any means that they feel will get the job done. They have no conscience, they are the entitled ones and with you gone, there is more for them & theirs.
Sounds like, “Well we are going to chop off one hand, you should too.Cause fairness…
The stupid of CAGW and all its attendant scams is beyond parody.
Just another case of mass hysteria, so common to herd beasts.
I waana conform I wanna be norm…
The righteous and self-wise are once again demonstrating how useless and dangerous they really are.
Perhaps the damage and poverty inflicted upon citizens by this madness, will convince this generation of the hazard that comes with coddling the clueless and useless.
The Emperors new clothes, horrible mental image of Emperor Wynne, nothing has changed in our nature, swindlers are human too.
Human parasites are always with us, a limited number of them provide entertainment and instruction for our children.
But the village idiot is never left in charge, except when a community has gone mad.
Or they could just not elect F*#ktards like Premier Wynne and Environment Minister Murray and have a pretty much level playing field.
Much of that thinking goes back to the early days of the Club of Rome. One of its philosophies is that “the earth has a cancer and that cancer is man”. The result is that they want to reduce the population, though they’re not specific as to how it’s to be done.
Not to be unkind, but did she say who she voted for?
Sad, but unfortunately too late for some, the reality really hits home, and they’ll now be paying the price.
For those not swallowing the leftist tripe, my sympathies, you got caught in the same dragnet.
For all the hype on “low carbon”, what are these dufus’ going to replace carbon based plastics with? Resourcefulness R224? That iPad just might become less thin & heavier. Wool will make a comeback?
There is no control by humans on climate change. Winter will still exist north of 49 for about 5+ months or so no matter how high you tax carbon, so what do they plan to use for HEAT?
So we have one sensible leader ( at least for now ) and 10 suspect ones not including the territories. And yet there is a large segment of the population who think the government has the solution to their problems. It’s probably nothing . What could possibly go wrong ?
Oh but that’s funny!
Ontario politicians have finally realized what they’ve done to themselves and want everyone else to do the same in order to save them from themselves!
Best laugh I had all week!
Isn’t the Sudbury smelter the single largest point emmission in Canada exempt from emmissions control and the Ghg tally
The last sane premier. Lucky Saskatchewan. If the others wish to undermine their economies, so be it. Oh dear, now maybe the UN will be getting rid of Wall too – just like they did Harper.
“Fortunately he’s a bit more tactful and refined.”
It would be refreshing to hear the Premier tell Glen Murray to f*ck off and mind his own business. And in those exact words. Sure … it wouldn’t be diplomatic and might be considered by some to be unprofessional, but when you’re responding to idiots handing out unsolicited and mindless advice, being blunt is the most effective way to make a point.
As an added bonus since Mr. Wall is neither a Liberal or a socialist, the media would have a field day pillorying him. You can also bet that the Premier standing up for his province will be trumpeted by the local NDP as nothing more than an election ploy. Wait for it.
“Best laugh I had all week!” So obviously you’re not a Leaf fan!
Sorry, too easy. My team (sigh) as well.
Concerning is that the Feds are eyeing 15$ / tonne carbon tax. Do they not get that the economy is already in trouble. The new Liberal government makes me ill. How could people have voted for this garbage?
well tooner, if the conservatists had offered up something superior to Hudak the clucking chipmunk, maybe things, no, *probably* things would have turned out much better. but, don’t worry too much, we’ve got another opp to turf the most dangerously incompetent gubbamint this sorry province has ever had next election. and if we don’t THEN oooh jeez, then we better start worrying big time.
once in a blue moon I call up the local electric utility and ask them a favour, namely, would one of them mosey over to Tranna, look up Wynne’s whereabouts, put her in a headlock and punch her real real hard 10 times in the face whilst demanding she STOP doing things that have put our hydro bills on track to triple during this lieberal reign or error.
it usually gets a chuckle and polite decline.
I live in Saskatchewan, born and raised and voted for Mr Wall and the Saskatchewan Party the last two elections and will vote for him again come this April. I can only but congratulate him for his stand and agree with all the other comments that I’ve just read. He has done such a good job of running this province that the Socialists only election tactic so far is to throw lumps of dirt with any label on them and hope that they turn into some kind of mud that sticks on the Sask party. We still have lots of people here who have drunk so much of the socialist poison over their lifetime that they’ll stay comrades no matter what but I’m confident that Premier Wall will retain that title after the April election.
You put your finger on what is behind all of this although they would deny it. You see this theme raising its head every so often. The woman Eve talks about is one of the first victims.
You can bet your boots that all the progressives including George Soros will pull out all the stops to get Wall defeated this spring. Stalin will have his pound of flesh one way or another. If the devils can get rid of Harper as easy as they did they will think that getting rid of Wall should be easy.
Actually it would be a pleasure to hear Wall tell Murray what to do with himself.
Since Hydro has been mentioned, I noted that while our electricity usage declined by 40% (installation of a heat pump, lots of firewood and an extra sweater or two)our bill has remained pretty much the same.
We had a huge brouhaha in BC over ‘smart meters’ that were supposed to encourage ‘time of use’ billing, allowing many of us to use off peak hours at supposedly lower rates. Instead, BC Hydro designates the first 1350 Kwh for each two month billing period as ‘Stage 1’ at 7.9 cents/kwh with the balance (in winter, around 10,000 Kwh) at the 11.9 cents/kwh ‘Stage 2’.
Oh, and did I mention that BC Hydro ‘pays’ a huge annual dividend directly to the Gov’t of BC? It’s simply a tax hidden as a utility payment.
“getting rid of Wall should be easy.”
Not going to happen. Harper’s downfall was the stupidity and lust for free stuff of voters in the Maritimes and Ontario. Those idiots won’t be voting on April 4. Granted, we still have a few with that mindset here in Sask. but they’re an endangered species and, with any luck, will be rendered extinct very shortly.
They’re not stupid…they’re being paid to say that stuff…because nobody can be that stupid.
Check this out. The Trudeau/McKenna picture will make you puke –guaranteed.
http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-politics/environment-minister-pushes-for-carbon-pricing-despite-worries-it-could-kneecap-energy-sector
Is there no professionalism in the new Cabinet? Of course the topic of the piece will also make you puke. It is enough to make person want to shake shake some sense into these fools. O Canada what have you done?
Isn’t the current Minister of Natural Resources a professional oboist? Actually, I like oboists. But, for that particular ministry, I would prefer a geologist.
The only way you could find a more inexperienced cabinet than trudeaus is too look at notleys in Alberta, it’s like a combination of a couple of pepper pot mums from a PTA and the cast of fraggle Rock
How is something that floats through the skies ,ever higher, measured in tonnes or tons for that matter? F these people are stupid as they are devious.
Ultimately, “carbon” taxes of any sort are just consumption taxes. However, it is politically difficult to raise the GST but in the name of saving the planet, well, who wouldn’t willingly pay?
I would willingly pay to see the carbon footprint of all those who think carbon should be taxed, eliminated completely. What a bunch of commie fools. Carbon based organisms living on a carbon based planet trying to eliminate carbon. They are all fools.
Question for Trudeau at the press conference where he announces a carbon tax:
“And how much colder will this make Canada, Prime Minister?”
Carbon taxes: climate change mitigation for Dummies
Partly. The other thing is that they want to keep jacking up the carbon tax. One CAGW loon suggested $180 per tonne. Basically a hidden tax like the old manufacturing tax. Remember how economists insisted the GST was superior. Now they like hidden taxes because they’ll save the planet.
I still think the ultimate goal for Liberals is carbon trading set up in Quebec. A “market” with no physical goods entirely controlled by government with almost unlimited opportunity for graft set up in the most corrupt province in Canada. Best of all the, burden falls almost entirely on western Canada. Does anyone seriously think bombardier or auto industry will have to pay based on their downstream emissions of fossil fuels used in cars and planes? Will ships from the mid east pay as they unload oil tankers in Quebec and the East? Will any imported goods be taxed? No, I doubt it, it’s the primary resource companies in western Canada that will pay.
Now if Sask refuses a carbon tax but the prime minister of Quebec and Bombardier philanthropist confiscates Saskatchewan taxpayer dollars under a federal carbon tax then Wall could choose to add to the PST. That percent of PST designated as equivalent to a carbon tax. Then rebate the entire amount back to Sask residents on a per capita basis.
This fulfills the carbon tax mandate, reduces tax harm for residents, protects our resource industry and prevents the per tonne carbon tax being turned into a trading mechanism.
She did not vote for the Ontario Liberals. She voted Conservative as did I even with Hudak at the helm. Our riding has stayed one of Ontario’s blue ridings since before I moved here. The unions vote Liberal, the teachers union, the nurses union, government workers etc. There are more people working for the government in Ontario than people who are not. We cannot vote the Liberals out. I only live there 6 months of the year so they can’t kill me by freezing me, in the winter at least.
Frances:
Jr’s cabinet includes an astronaut and with advanced degrees who beavers away as Transportation minister, and A General who occupies the back benches. All this so the gender numbers can approach 50% and the minority numbers reflect Canadian big cities. Merit as a principle for cabinet inclusion? But this is 2016, according to Gerald Butts.
“Is there no professionalism in the new Cabinet?”
A rhetorical question, surely.
“I don’t want a level playing field for our province, I want to have this be the best place for companies to maintain jobs and to create new jobs and to invest.”
Absolutely correct.
The job of a premier is to advance the best interests of their province within Confederation.
