  3. That last para of the Glob & Pail’s Lawrence Martin is a classic! He’s practically pleading for government intervention in public media! If anything, this sorting out of media should be one from which government removes itself more than an arm’s length. Let the ink spill where it may! That print puppies have failed to see the multi-channelled information network that has grown around them is surely not a reason that they be propped up by the taxpayer.
    “… voters don’t have the information on which to make an informed decision?” Did the voter every really get that information from Martin and his colleagues? I think not. There are now far to many outlets for information than are consumable. Most of these will fade away in time, some to be replaced, others to be forgotten.
    Martin, and his like, are bemoaning their loss of status as information gatekeepers.
    I’m not sorry.

  4. Scandal and feigned scandal sells ads in the media business. The lefties ate up the weekly fake Conservative scandal under Harper. Spending the next 4 years watching the media blow Trudeau and company is problematic for the lefty media. They are in danger of becoming an ad-free irrelevance. Maybe we can all watch videos of Sophie screeching like a rusty hinge. That will sell ads – not.

  5. To me, in my humble opinion, the biggest US news story is Mrs Clinton’s criminal violations of security while Secretary of State, using her own unsecured email server. It’s proven that data was hacked, she shared confidential data with unauthorized people, and almost certainly foreign American intelligence assets have been killed as a result. She probably did this because she was running a tens-of-millions kickback operation to the Clinton Foundation while she was Secretary of State. The Clinton Foundation spends about 9% of its money on actual charitable causes, the balance goes to support the Clinton’s lavish standard of living and their support staff and servants.
    Newspapers and TV news avoid any mention of this for some reason.

  8. Yet the media continues to try to be gatekeeper…..even the Sun papers got rid of their online comments section. They claimed it was due to online “bullying” or some other nonsensical excuse, but the real reason is that they didn’t like their “stories” challenged or commenters bringing forward information the paper wanted to be kept under wraps. Nothing more than censorship.

The fact that Tabitha Southey is still employed by the Globe after accusing a minister of being responsible for that dead Syrian boy (who was not actually a refugee) is reason enough to not read the paper. I’ve personally gone Galt on most of the media, I won’t even click a link for fear they might get a penny in extra ad money. I’ll trust Kate and a few others to give me enough of a synopsis on stories.

    Let’s find out why our taxpayer subsidized media like the G&M is ignoring stories of a muslim immigrant who raped ten Montreal women.
    Why are we giving them our tax dollars to hide threats to public safety?
    They spent our tax dollars wailing and moaning about some dumb dental students making dumb jokes on facebook but ignore the real threats to women posed by the fake muslim refugees?
    Where is their concern for rape culture and the safety of women then?
    Isn’t it part of the duty as citizens and journalists to inform people about dangers to the public? Or are they just there to inform us about the latest Hollywood starlet’s underwear status?
    Why are we giving any of the media any handouts when all they do is lie to us?
    We need an inquiry into that for sure.

    Yesterday, I decided to conduct a little experiment, testing CNN on voting day in Iowa in what I dubbed “The Race to 10”. Considering that both Trump and Clinton were both front-runners for their respective parties, each leaders supporters — strategists and advisors primarily — should be given equal airtime in their LIVE guest appearance segments with their on-air journalists; important between election cycles but vitally so on voting day.
    “Whose supporters would be the first to reach 10?” I thought, but more interestingly where would the other team’s supporters finish when the winner had reached the number 10?
    It took several hours but, to little surprise, the Clinton supporters reached 10 first. More disturbing, when they reached that number the Trump supporters had only reached 2 — Katrina Pierson and Sam Clovis.
    Just 2 Trump supporters interviewed LIVE over 4 hours of coverage while the Clinton supporters reached 11. To add insult to injury, the reason why they reached 11 before I could stop the test at 10 is because as CNN had introduced Donna Brazile (#10) they also announced Hillary Rosen on set with her, another Clinton supporter.
    2 trump supporters spread apart over 4 hours; 2 Clinton supporters on at the same time in one segment. So the ratio of Clinton-to=Trump supporters was 11:2 by the end of the test, with CNN clearly trying to influence the result of last night’s voting.
    Unlike FOX News, which lets people know they are conservative and support a Republican for president, CNN maintains that it has no bias, that it is “non-partisan” media and does not have a favoured candidate in this race to be the next president… the facts from the test I had conducted prove otherwise.
    Bias is media is not the problem. It’s telling people that you’re unbiased and then presenting evidence to the contrary. Highly deceptive.

  20. Went to a favorite restaurant after the ‘Pub caucus last night to celebrate. The Lewis II caucus was an absolute blast. Unfortunately, the bar area had CNN airing which is a little unusual since although this was across the river in Omaha, the entire region is happily ‘red’. There was a blizzard blowing in and the place was deserted except for staff. I was going to ask them to turn to Fox but another group came in. I never watch that network since discovering their reporting on “W’s” Iraq engagement was pure lies. It was shocking to see how reduced their on air reporting is compared to Fox across the board. I mean production values, reporting intellect and charm, everything. It made me so happy, I let it play on.

Received a marketing call last night from Ottawa Citizen, wanting me to renew a canceled subscription from 2 years ago. the young marketer could offer no reason whatever why I would wish to do such a thing. If ever an organization put their eggs in 1 basket, it is this paper. They trashed the CPC government for 3 years at every opportunity. But the large eastern Ont region where they once sold papers is essentially conservative, only the urban core votes Liberal, By mindlessly supporting JT and fellow Liberals, they are eliminating a huge mass of potential supporters.
    There appears to be a sharp disconnect between the publisher, aware of such realities, and their stable of liberal columnists determined to write to please themselves and fellow thinkers. Unfortunately not enough of them buy newspapers any longer.

  29. An interesting (and accurate)observation. On a few occasions I have written to journalists to critically comment on their pieces. Any critical comment really gets their backs up — especially if you have a solid argument. They are big egos the journalists. They seem to think they deserve to have a stage on which to express their opinions. They do not seem to care if they are alienating readers — will often not even acknowledge alternative views. I am not sorry to see them going down.

My primary news sources are online and I find ZH/SDA/WUWT as being far more informative than the statist BS peddled by the MSM. Not only do these sites headline stories that the MSM would never cover, but they allow interaction in the comments section and any attempt to pass off BS as fact is promptly stomped on.
    There was a time when newspapers gad a diversity of opinion but now the MSM in N America is no different than Pravda was in USSR. RT actually provides far better coverage than the MSM which follows a rigid statist/PC script. The MSM could save itself if it did objective reporting but it appears that those who work in the MSM are oblivious to anything outside of their incestuous highly circumscribed reality tunnel in which conformity is the highest virtue.

  44. There are many sources of free commie rags out there – why would anyone pay for the same crap? Who pays for home delivery of a paper anymore? Paper boy? … no one knows what that means anymore.
    I don’t use a radio except for traffic reports anymore (I use spotify) or commercial TV (except sports).
    I’m old enough to know at one time media didn’t go out of their way to insult their consumers by giving their idiotic opinions.
