  1. Coren has left the Catholic Church due, he says, to their viewpoints on homosexuality.
Fine. I can sympathize. The Catholic Church has views that not everyone — even Catholics — can agree with it.
But I don’t understand why almost all of his political views appear to have lurched violently to the left. That is strange. How does a middle-aged person who is patently intelligent suddenly reject many of his beliefs overnight? Is it simply a matter of who’s signing his paycheque?

  2. “And you have Gollum from Lord of the Rings.”
Ouch! Warn me if I’m ever about to tick you off.

  3. Is it true Coren and Craig Oliver are starting up a new current affairs show on CBC called ‘North of 80’?

  4. He’s taken on all aspects of a leftist insult weasel, scampering away from his stupid cheap shots when challenged.

  5. I’m as puzzled as you, although I never really trusted the guy back when he was considered a conservative spokesperson. Even his accent I found phony. Maybe he called himself a conservative when he was with the winners’ team, and once that appeared to be changing, he bailed.

  6. Preston Manning aside Michael Coren is one of the bigger disappointments from an ideological perspective that I can think of.
Like waking up one morning to find out Rush Limbaugh gives Nancy Pelosi foot massages on weekends.
    Oh well.

  7. I expect that you are right. He was starting to express some weird views towards the end of his shows on SunTV and figured he should throw in his lot with the left.
    Apparently has no principles.

  8. Gets offended by the Confederate Flag avatar. Ignores the Pride flag… whatever suits your needs.

  9. “And you have Gollum from Lord of the Rings. So what?”
    SNAP!
    That should leave a mark.

  10. Burton, you have to start using trigger warnings; I just ate lunch…can’t erase image of Pelosi foot massage

  11. I think Coren is a stroke victim.
Brain trauma makes people liberals like Gifford and Brady.

  12. *
    coren on kate’s avatar…
“Ah, you have the Confederate flag as your picture. And I didn’t insult, merely commented.
    Don’t shoot me!

anyone else see the straw man here? who besides “professional journalist” michael coren is talking about
    shooting people?
coren also gives heavy play to firearms as penis substitutes. he does know kate is a woman…
    right?

  13. I think someone close to Coren, a son or daughter perhaps, may have just come out of the closet.
That’ll change a lot of people on their position regarding homos.
As to Coren quitting Catholicism, Coren changes religions about as often as Madonna does.
For now, I’ll still give his views a listen whenever I come across them.

  14. I was wondering the same thing myself. However I don’t think conservative views towards homosexuality are about the person , but more about it’s use to society, and the prevalence of gay people legislating people’s opinions more to their liking. One can hold their views and express them to their children if they are gay or not.
Coren should be smart enough to do that instead of throwing the people that respected him under the bus. Pretty sad if he shed his principals for dollars though but hey that seems to be common now a days.

  15. Whole bunch of Senate Seats needing filled.
Pays pretty good, great job for Presstitutes.
Coren? Why not we had Duffie and Wallen.

  16. I don’t mean this in an insulting way, and I’m not suggesting mental impairment, but did Mr. Coren suffer a stroke over the past year or so? It looks like he has suffered from Bell’s Palsy or a similar ailment and he’s lost a lot of weight. The physical change in him over the past little while is shocking.

  17. “Mr. Coren suffer a stroke over the past year or so? It looks like he has suffered from Bell’s Palsy or a similar ailment and he’s lost a lot of weight. The physical change in him over the past little while is shocking.”
That’s what happens when you continually change horses midstream and never make it to a bank.

  18. That is damned good idea!
Chances are we’d end up with a better person in the role than the typical Party crony we’ve seen awarded those lottery wins since forever.

  19. Fine – if he’s in ill health and he’s had what he thinks is his version of a “Road to Damascus” moment…good. I want all the best for him – I wish no one harm.
That said – Don’t take cheap shots (and that’s exactly what he did to Kate) at conservatives to prove your progressive bona fides for your media friends.
    chicken sh**.

  20. Always liked Coren, I don’t care about his religious affiliations or sexual orientations, but his weird flip of disarming honest taxpaying Canadians is downright mentally disturbed.
So why would Michael Coren want to see hardworking Canadian families helpless to protect themselves from dangerous criminals? Why shouldn’t Canadians be allowed to enjoy the fruits of their labors and own firearms for hunting and recreational sports? It’s a part of our culture & heritage.
I don’t see “gollum” in Michael Coren but I do see a reflection of Piers Morgan.

  21. Are you telling me that there were no southern dandy’s fighting in the civil war? Effeminate men have always been a staple of the south, they just have better manners than the rest of us when they embrace them and enjoy their loyal citizenship.

  22. Kate
You could also claim that you have added a rainbow background to a Queensland Rail road crossing warning sign and that its wording has become imaginary.

  23. Ooz, now that was your second extra stupid of the thread, most Jews are lafties, and many of those lefties are arab defenders, even a lot of Israeli Jews. As to your comment on “homes”, even shotgun Cheyenne was pretty conservative. Cons don’t judge people on their sexual preferences, only stupid bible bangers do that.

  24. Yup.
A whore’s makeup is determined by what works, not what she likes in the mirror.

  25. Wow Kate that has to be Come-back Of The Year. Gave literal meaning to ROFLMAO.

  26. “Real snipe (a family of shorebirds) are difficult to catch for experienced hunters, so much so that the word “sniper” is derived from it to refer to anyone skilled enough to shoot one.”
I’ve never understood the reference, mostly by Americans I’ve known,of snipe hunting as an imaginary sport. The bird is real, Wilson’s snipe, part of the waterfowl hunting season on the Canadian Prairies.
Far from being difficult to hunt, they are easy, stupid birds will run along the shore to within about 50 feet of the hunter if he stands still.
I shot exactly one Wilson’s snipe in my youth, with a .22 from about 50 feet, head shot, which doesn’t mean I was a great marksman just an average shot for a 14 year old in Manitoba who’d been hunting rabbits, grouse and ducks since age 8.
We dressed it out and cooked it over a campfire, tasted okay, but there was less meat than on even a green wing teal. Each of us could have eaten about five of the snipes, so I never bothered to shoot one again.
Now, as to Coren, he’s changed his tune according to the trend that keeps HIM well employed and working, and undoubtedly popular with the Toronto media elite crowd.
I’m very disappointed in the man, thought he had principles. On second thought,he probably DOES have one principle,”look out for number one”.

  27. Sympathise nothing.
The Church has held and still holds views that make perfect sense in the decadent post-Modern West where nothing is deemed wrong if you feel it’s okay. No cardinals chuck gays off of roofs and unmarried women aren’t stoned to death after Sunday Mass.
Coren went off of his rocker.
He’ll have to come back, though. He’s written books about how Catholicism is right.

  28. Karen Selick consistently made mincemeat of Coren at the old Western Standard blog continuously running conservative / libertarian debate. He usually retreated into authoritarian statism / theocracy or Argumentum ad absurdum. It isn’t a big move for a conservative progressive to become less inhibited.

  29. His wife and children are R.C. so he decided finally to join, and like many converts, he jumped into it totally and fully. I had friends who turned Catholic when they married and that broke up friendships with their former Protestant friends. Didn’t understand it then, and still don’t.
I don’t hear what Catholicism says about homosexuals but I assume it’s the same Biblical verses as Protestants read, and the same O.T. verses used by the Jews. And, in case he hasn’t noticed, those verses are in the King James version used by Anglicans
Something happened before the end of Sun News and I was left shaking my head like the rest.
We’ll never know, and from his exchange with Kate, he’s not improving.
Would love to see him one more time with Tarek Fatah to gauge if there has been a change in his opinion of Islam as it was a subject they discussed together on Sun News.

  30. I’ve recently deleted my Twitter account, but before that I noticed Coren (post-Sun) spewing some weird gibberish which ran contrary to how I got to know him.
For someone to change so radically you have to wonder what is amiss. Either he never was R.C. or he never was of sound mind.

  31. I’m stunned.
I used to really enjoy and appreciate his analyses.
He didn’t just change churches. If that was all I could understand.
    But to abandon conservative principles?
I’ve heard of lots of liberals (including myself) switching TO conservative, but never the other way round.
    Doesn’t make sense.
