  7. I relate to your statement so well. If a manufacturer is making steel wheels or concrete rebar, the corporation’s energy bill combined with labor costs will be their greatest expense. Moving the plant to China, India or Mexico is a sound business decision. Cheap labour, cheap energy, and lax environment laws will raise profits. Meanwhile, unemployment, CO2 and recession are what North Americans will inherit! But hopefully, we will buy cheap rebar, and cheap wheels!!

  10. in view of the global caving in conducted by the intrusive extreme left, let me share with SDA my thoughts on nuclear deterrence, which was very much in vogue during the cold war. And I show it is because of nuclear deterrence it stayed a cold war.
    but first I introduce you to one bertrand russell, a priviliged elitist brit marxist sympathizer. feel free to google his CV. my predominant memory of this squishy little man is his sustained and popular call for unilateral disarmament. in other words, the western nuclear powers were supposed to dismantle all their nukes and delivery systems as a way to prevent armageddon.

    utterly defenceless to make sure the ‘other side’ did not mishtake some event as a first strike and then uh, oopsie !! we were wrong !!! incoming !!
    yup.
    in reality, if the west for some reason never had or dismantled their nukes, the soviets would have, without a shred of doubt, used the opportunity to render the USA for sure a smouldering radioactive cinder in order to protect mother russia from any possible future attack. or some variation that includes a staged ‘incident’ to get the ball rolling.
    so the alternative, as crazy and expensive and dangerous as it was, was the pursuit of the arms race. basically reinforcing the first aspect of nuclear deterrence, and that is the obvious: possession and control of the weaponry.
    the 2nd necessary ingredient is to demonstrate the *psychological* capability to use them. for their part, the USA left no doubt by virtue of August 1945. the russians for their part, well, their general pattern of behaviour was proof enough.
    the 3rd and final corner of the deterrence triangle is to c-l-e-a-r-l-y communicate to the ‘other side’ that if they commit a first strike, then you WILL without any doubt whatsoever, retaliate with a massive attack. you will launch even before theirs hit. the calculations and debate went on for decades, one truth easy to grasp was that in the event of nuclear war, things would happen very fast. very little opportunity to deescalate and cease fire. not an option. ergo ‘MAD’ mutual assured destruction.
    it is the 3rd item, the need to comuuuuuuuunicate to the other side the willingness to utilize the weapons you have that is central to nuclear deterrence. instilling the notion, then dreadful truth that if you attack the other side, then you WILL get hurt real, real bad and the whole thing will be YOUR fault.
    it is the exquisite, perfect ‘balancing act’ that in simplest terms, the FACT that you HAVE all this weaponry is-the-very-reason-you-dont-have-to-use-it. it is the unique property of the destructive power of hydrogen bombs that creates this wonderful irony. it is the central core reason WW III did not happen. the utter certainty that if either side committed the folly of ‘preemptive strike’ (HA !!) then blame would rest entirely on THEM and the deaths of 10s on millions of their OWN citizens as well.
    that was it. that was why nuclear deterrence works so well. and is SO necessary in a world where nuclear fusion is required to fuel the sun and sustains life, and was destined therefore to be discovered by some generation of this always curious species.
    the total opposite of ‘use it or lose it’; it was ‘have it so you never need to use it’.
    I have never found anywhere in any form of competition this truly unique irony.
    the FACT that you HAVE the weapons is the reason you NEVER HAVE TO USE THEM.
    and the lesson for 2015?
    easy. the process of deterrence from a position of strength is STILL very true. with ‘fine tuning’ and analogy etc, the phenomenon is applicable in world events still.
    but the extreme left, 50+ years on, still. doesn’t. get. it. which is why these cave-in artists, these surrender specialists MUST be opposed. the alternative is to perish. and we western Caucasians have invested far, far too much to let that happen. we CANNOT let all our history of success and progress go to waste because of some ‘disease’ lurking called ‘extreme leftist thinking’. we owe it to our ancestors in recognition of the sacrifices and hard work THEY invested in OUR futures-to-be, and we owe it to our DESCENDANTS to at least give them a *chance* for the same privileges WE carved out for ourselves from the dirt, rocks, trees, wild game and water that the cave men started with.
    and congratulations to us and our common work ethic and enlightened self interest and curiousity and aspirations and all that stuff.
