I was hoping for the best for that aircraft as it would have put Canadian aerospace in the news again, and taken a chunk of the market back from Brazil.
But the management screwed up.
“A Chinese supplier contracted to build the fuselage proved not up to the task. Bombardier had to uproot the project and bring it back home to Canada. “When you do that, then you eat up a billion dollars quickly of tooling,” the executive says.”
That problem was a huge reason for the “big” delay in delivery.
Bombardier quality management team was nowhere in sight on that one.
I had heard the problem wasn’t noticed until the fuselage sections were shipped to Canada.
