  3. Back when I lived on Salt Spring Island, BC, I had the misfortune to be on the 30 minute ferry to Victoria with a large number of idiots protesting about logging/pollution or somesuch.
Each one was alone in their smoke emitting beaters and they all carried signs made of wood/cardboard.
And not one of them recognized the irony.

  4. You’re wrong, Kate. The kayakers show their commitment to going green when they bought kayaks made out of soy beans.

    Re: Soy plastic.
As early as 1940, Henry Ford had designed a car with body parts made of a soy based plastic. He also made interior automotive fabrics from hemp. In 1942 and with WWII on the horizon, Mr. Ford and Co. had to abandon the project in lieu of building war machinery. One also has to realize that plastics, then and now, are made from petroleum byproducts that would otherwise go to waste.

  13. However ! IF we STOPPED our carbon-based economy … think of all the jobs these boaters would have hand-making wood boats, weaving and spinning yarn and hand-knitting non-toxic garments … from the warm confines of their bison hide Yurt. And they could even advertise these crafts by sending smoke signals … since the Internet would be taboo too.
