  1. I still think that John Kerry should simply get James Taylor to sing “You’ve got a friend” to Putin. I mean, it was so “meaningful” when he did so in France after the Charlie Hebdo massacre. Although I suppose that Kerry is too busy getting ready to handle a “real” threat like “climate change”. Where do they find these morons?

  2. Things could get interesting. Canada better not think of supporting the jihadists in Ankara for one second. Putin is on the right side of this dispute. Wasn’t Turkey very recently bombing Kurds in Syria. Why is that okay?

  3. What happens if Syria and Russia start shooting down American and Canadian aircraft? Apparently they have the right.

  4. Today may be Turkey’s last day…The attack was most likely planned by Obama & others to test Putin.. A clear declaration of War coordinated with Syrian Turks, and the shooting of the pilots on parachute was a war crime committed by both Syrian Turks & Turkey….
The US General (ex NATO air command) said that even after 10 or >400 warnings it does not justify firing… unless Turkey was under direct attack. They were not threatened by a supposed 17 sec intrusion..(try giving 10 warnings in 17 sec) This was planned.
The bartering of ISIS oil by Turkey & US cockroach slime would also suggest it was the reason why the US attack on ISIS oil tankers ran out of ammunition and could not complete the task.. unbelievable incompetence, or a fake photo operation
Putin will send a message to NATO! most likely after Dec 1st for maximum reverberation. Brussels… keep your ears UP

  5. At the end of the Long (DANGEROUS) day. It’s Sunni vs Shiite muslims. It should never involve us. But Turdeau is dragging Canada into this mess. I already miss Harper!

  6. I hope Putin will live up to his rep and retaliate in a most serious way, and I don’t mean a “line in the sand”. The Turks have hidden behind their membership in NATO,while slaughtering the Kurds for years.
The Russians should move some of their best AAM squads to Syria and shoot down any Turk planes that come in range, on any side of the border.
Turkey is another Muslim caliphate disguised as a moderate secular Nation, complete bullshit.
It’s really too bad the Russians dismantled all their nuclear weapons when the Cold War ended, they may have to use them some day soon. I was very impressed by their test of the 50 megaton hydrogen bomb in 1961, I think most nations were:

Maybe they can borrow some from the Iranians.

  7. The only real success in fighting ISIS has been with the Kurds who actually have boots on the ground. Turkey has spent more time trying to kill Kurds than ISIS. Not exactly my idea of a ally

  8. Great idea!
But even better, what if Kerry took James Taylor AND Carly Simon and they sang the song as a duet!
Imagine the impact of this “power couple ” of the ’70’s together again!!!

  9. Yes, Don I’m a bit pissed with Turkey too. I think on the thinnest of provocations they shot down an easy target (the Su-24 Fencer is 60s technology, something like a MiG-21 shooting down a F105 Thunderchief over South Viet Nam, IOW no match for an F-16), coyly hiding behind their NATO membership while they help ISIS, especially by attacking the Kurds. If they think Article 5 will help them, they’ve been smoking too much of that Turkish stuff. They may very well end up with a bloody nose for this, thus allowing Putin to explore further weak elements in Obama’s coalition.
What should be happening is a concerted worldwide effort to eradicate ISIS; then we can sort out our squabbles later. But it isn’t and Turkey is in the middle of it; they must step up to plate in this war instead of taking cheap shots at the Russians and settling local scores.

  10. Quite so. Most of the “refugees” are coming via Turkey and it is an Islamist government

  11. Strange times when Putin feels more of an ally than the US or my own country does. Both led by man childs. And Turkey is hardly an ally either. I actually despise the Turks.

  12. In downing the Russkie plane, the Turks fired the first shot, making them the aggressor. That may alter NATO’s commitment to defend Turkey. That could be interesting.

  13. “What should be happening is a concerted worldwide effort to eradicate ISIS; then we can sort out our squabbles later.”
    In a nutshell.

  14. I have a picture in mind of Putin flashing turdeau who is cowering in shock, eyes and mouth wide open in fear, hair standing on end, wetting himself in is little boy pants and the caption is “This is how big a Mig 21 is”

  15. Right now, Putin is my Captain Ahab, I mean he is the ONLY global leader whose interests seem aligned with mine. Sorry, if it comes to WW3, I am not firing a single shot at a Russian soldier…
No Russian ever demanded to me that I apologise for being a hetero white male…

  16. “In downing the Russkie plane, the Turks fired the first shot, making them the aggressor.”
Not necessarily. If the aircraft was in Turkish airspace without Turkish authority, then strictly speaking, the Russians are the guilty party. If a foreign military force or element enters your territory without your consent, you don’t actually have to wait until they start shooting to defend your sovereignty.
Back in 1960, Gary Powers found that out the hard way.

  17. Are we sure it all didn’t start with Turkey bombing Syrian territory along with its co-aggressors the US, Canada, and France. Syria and its Russian ally have been very patient thus far.

  18. Consider this, if you want to send your tanks from Russia, to Turkey, you have to go through Georgia, which Putin would like to take control of again.

  19. I suspect that Erdogan may think it was Turkey’s doing, but I am sure there was more to it than that. Like most people who play in these games, Erdogan is not as clever as he thinks.

  20. Obama is about to set another precedent by not coming to the aid of a NATO ally. Turkey should have been kicked out of NATO before, but the point is what European ally will believe Obama will come to their aid in the future if it is attacked? He has a genius for destabilizing everything.

  21. Even though Turkey was overreaching, a real attack by Russia in retaliation would justify NATO coming to the defence of a member state. Fortunately, with President Obama in charge the U.S. stands ready to renege on its NATO obligations, and of other NATO members more will fear having to help a NATO ally now than will fear that they made need their NATO allies later.

  22. Obama must be getting dizzy in trying to determine who is friend and who is foe. He quite clearly abandoned long time friends of the U.S. (Israel, Canada, etc) and sucked up to long time foes. But now he hasn’t got a clue….oh wait….he never DID have a clue. Oh well, he can head off to the stupid “climate change” conference to try to pretend that he has a clue….which he doesn’t. I am so sick of that useless puke.

  23. I see there is quite along line up to fellate Pootin. You know the same Pootin that is arming Iran. You know that would be the same Iran that is working towards nuking Israel. The same Pootin that is supporting Assad (not againts ISIS but against everyone else). You know the same Assad that has been sponsoring Hezbollah for decades.
You lot are laughable and pathetic at the same time. There is nothing he can do if he tries to escalate he will get spanked. He already did. The Siberian Mongols were told to stay out of Turkish air space on enough occasions. Try it again and there will be more punishment. That pathetic old Slava class rust bucket they call a cruiser will not achieve anything and it is a sub magnet.

  24. One better than the other.
“A clear declaration of War coordinated with Syrian Turks, and the shooting of the pilots on parachute was a war crime committed by both Syrian Turks & Turkey….”
No, it is a clear declaration to Siberian Mongols to aty the f*** off Turkey. the fact that the pilot (who was previously bombing anyone but ISIS) got butchered is just icing on the cake.
    and then:
“It’s really too bad the Russians dismantled all their nuclear weapons when the Cold War ended, ”
Seriously? Wow, just wow. Where do you get your information? Pravda children’s edition?
    and another:
“What should be happening is a concerted worldwide effort to eradicate ISIS; then we can sort out our squabbles later.”
Why? Pootin and nuke armed Iran are much more serious threat.
    and even better:
“In downing the Russkie plane, the Turks fired the first shot, making them the aggressor.”
Turks had every right to take out that bomber. When military aircraft enter your airspace without authorization they are a viable target. The Siberian Mongols were warned on countless occasions that it will happen, they ignored those warnings and they got their just deserts. Next time they will more careful when testing Turkish resolve.

  25. Why? Pootin and nuke armed Iran are much more serious threat.

But, but, but. Climate change is the biggest threat.
This one will have to wait another week.

  26. “the shooting of the pilots on parachute was a war crime committed by both Syrian Turks & Turkey…”
Turkey is NOT a signatory to Protocol I, (Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts, Geneva Conventions). You can’t be held liable to uphold a treaty you did not sign.

  27. Putin doesn’t need to retaliate directly against Turkey , he can just arm the Kurds and let them do it.

  28. Turks did not shot the pilot, rebels (not ISIS but the relatively good guys) that the pilots were bombing shoot the pilots.

  29. I agree. Although I might quibble a bit with “despise the Turks”. Ataturk moved Turkey to a western alignment, while Erdogan is moving Turkey toward and Islamist Muslim Brotherhood alignment.
Brian, good point and that might just work.
I do not like one bit what Putin is trying to do in Ukraine, but he is on the right side in this conflict. The so-called “good guy” rebels would most likely if they were able to take over Syria just change it to another ME Islamist nest.

  30. “It’s really too bad the Russians dismantled all their nuclear weapons when the Cold War ended, ”
“Seriously? Wow, just wow. Where do you get your information? Pravda children’s edition?”
Where do YOU get your inability to recognize sarcasm when it’s this extreme?
I doubt anyone who regularly posts at SDA believes the Russians destroyed or dismantled any of their weapons, nuclear, bacteriological,or viral, and anyone who posts here regularly, as you do, should recognize the sarcasm of a comment by one of the regulars.
We aren’t naive kids, and Putin is only in our favor NOW,just like Stalin was in 1942, because our cause needs him, right now.
Before you decide to heap scorn on others here, perhaps you should find the balls to post under your real name.

  31. “Where do YOU get your inability to recognize sarcasm when it’s this extreme?”
Your post did not suggest sarcasm at all. Robert of Ottawa corrected you as well. Don’t blame others for your incoherence.
“We aren’t naive kids, and Putin is only in our favor NOW,just like Stalin was in 1942, because our cause needs him, right now.”
We talking about the same Pootin that is providing SAMs and radars for Iranian air defenses to protect them from Israeli air strikes? In my book nuke armed Iran is more dangerous than ISIS and so is Iran’s protector.
“Before you decide to heap scorn on others here, perhaps you should find the balls to post under your real name.”
How does being stupid is a proof of balls again?
