Blog Notes

I left Sacramento on Monday morning around 4:30am Pacific after getting a client’s dog on the plane, stopped in at Great Falls, Mt to ship another dog at 4am this morning, and walked in the door about 4 hours ago. 1,560 miles, the last two hours on ice. I’m a little numb.
It’s been a long three weeks on the road. Many thanks to Lance and the guest bloggers who do such a great job keeping the place rolling along in my absence. For those who sent private criticisms suggestions (a very few): while I enjoy entertaining you all for free, I must also make a living and keep my feet planted in the real world (as do the volunteer guests and administrators.)
This is not – to quote Lileks – a public utility.
Regular blogging should ramp back up sometime tomorrow.

  1. You were here in Sacramento? Shoot–We’d love to get the chance to show you some local hospitality (not to mention great food, beer, wine, etc.). Glad you’re back safe & sound–but don’t hesitate to shoot a heads-up our way next time! You have big fans here (and I’m not talking about the eagle-killing wind farms…).

  2. Well if you call driving all over the continent for 24 hours a ‘break’…then you go girl!!
Thanks for the blog Kate and friends.
Really? You got private ‘critcisms? wow…
    That reminds me …time to $end $ome Thank$

  3. Call me an oddball, but I quite like that drive across Nevada on I-80. Call it scenically bleak and rugged. Plus it’s a great highway to let the big dog eat. You can 90-95 mph for long stretches as long as your car is comfortable with it.

  4. Nah, it’s no big deal – I sometimes get cranky and vent, too. Just thought it was time to remind folks that blog is the work of people who donate their time.

  5. Kate, you’re a force of energy! Hope you get time to kick back and relax for a while.
Thanks for this exceedingly interesting and informative blog. I love SDA!

  6. Call me an oddball, but I quite like that drive across Nevada on I-80.
Call me odder still. I like route 50, America’s Lonliest Highway.
    Especially on two wheels.
    Fun but kinda spooky too.

  7. You bet, life is a highway.
But the back-roads are much more fun.
    Welcome back Kate.
Stick around for a while this time, we need your insight.

  8. Dang Kate, you drove through Butte Montana by the looks of your route. Lots of Canadians down here at Montana Tech studying petroleum eng, I’ve been passing them lots of links to SDA and many are now drinking the Kate Kool Aid and we all appreciate the work you are doing with the blog. It’s not an uncommon sight to see a few of us browsing the headlines in the computer lounge between classes every day and it warms my heart to see these students realize how all of “this political stuff” correlates to the lack of jobs we are all facing coming out of school these days!
    Happy American Thanksgiving guys…

  9. Just Another voice of appreciation. Funny my daughter just drove Calgary to L.A. to ship a dog to Australia. Bureaucratic fuddle-duddle.

  10. So Kate reaches Climax soon after returning to Saskatchewan! ;>D)
…(You might need to zoom in on map to understand)

  11. You’re a good sport Kate. Welcome back.
Just for …nothing really…I was in Whitefish/Kalispell, Mt in July and came back that way.
