  1. Well! It’s not every day one runs across a reference to Joe Tussman. Next, you’ll bring up Alexander Meiklejohn!

  2. And yet, we do know that the liberal arts education, namely an activity where you read a bunch of books and listen to lectures, predates Scholasticism and Monasticism by centuries.
But really… you’re splitting hairs here. Whether we’re talking about Greeks sitting around chatting about Homer, or some monk huddle in a cubical speculating on how many angels can fit on the head of a pin, what should be clear is that neither resembles university today. So why are you focusing on this one thing?
Because you are trying to avoid the real conversation and score sad little points. So let’s get back to my original point. That this woman is an idiot. She is moaning about the lack of Shakespeare in an English major’s diet, when as I’ve pointed out, is not likely to happen in the first place because chances are an undergrad will be studying Shakespeare at some point during their career. And it’s ok for Literature students to focus on other aspects of study, because the field is unimaginably massive. If you don’t like it… don’t study it. Or do. Who cares?
Especially if we’re talking about something that is just a “hobby” anyway.
Again… it’s just more Conservative whining about nothing. Don’t you ever get tired of it?
