Just put in a very long day on behalf of my Conservative candidate on Vancouver Island. 200 kilometres, running between polls and the campaign office and finishing the count at the polling station at 9:45pm, after the Liberals were already elected.
The worst part is the whole Island went NDP + 1 Green seat. Now we’re really in the political wilderness with no representation and every reason for the new government to ignore us.
The Conservatives had committed to #14 million to establish a fast ferry system to Vancouver, but that’s obviously off the table. Congrats fellow Islanders – you’ve royally screwed yourselves for the next 4 years or more.

How will he get Quebec its transfer payments when Alberta is running massive deficits? The net transfers into Quebec in 2014 roughly equaled the net transfers out of Alberta. Now one province is Liberal and the other NDP.
He doesn’t have a problem with modest deficits for a few years. Will he end his first 4 years with a balanced budget or a massive deficit?
The Liberals have often talked left and governed right. Will the MSM stay behind Trudeau if he steers the country to the right?

Is it just me or was Trudeau’s victory speech just a tad short on graciousness and a bit long on politics? Uncle Fidel has taught him well.
I think this result was probably foreordained. As we’ve seen before with Mulroney, Bush in the US, and Thatcher in the UK, tearing down a party is easy if you can tear down the leader. And what a puerile notion it is that any leader of a free nation can stifle all your dreams and ambitions? Perhaps if you owe your very existence to government that is possible.

A major problem our Care Bear PM will have is getting the provinces to pony up the majority of the funds for his budget-busting spending spree, as infrastructure projects are almost always cost-shared. Most provinces are on the verge of going broke so this spectacle itself will prove to be interesting.
