Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I wish present day conservatives would take a history lesson. Andrew Coyne, His father, and the rest are Progressive conservatives, as was Joe Clark, John Diefenbacher (PBUH), Standfield and all of Trudeau Sr’s political foes.
The current conservative party has its roots out of a fractured reform party, and is in no way related to the PCs, other than absorbing some old guard backbenchers and a few mugwumps like Tony Clement, being opportunists foremost, who will salute whatever flag gets them farther in their political career.
The “conservative” dailies in Canada are primarily PC still in ideology. Coyne was never a “conservative”. He’s cut from the same cloth as a journalist as David Frum – “trans-political”, and wears whatever political dress best fits the occasion.
I dunno Andrew Coyne from any other media bubblehead. Contrary to the wank above – journalists are not selected for their writing ability or their political acumen – they are judged on their ability to sell copy. There is no money in selling or pushing conservative common sense, responsibility or restraint. There is all kinds of cash in trolling conservatives and today – that is what all the rag sheets do. They would call it ‘raising awareness’, ‘journalism’ or op-ed writing…but all they are doing is trying to sell copy – and chit, sensationalism and trolling sells.
I don’t read or post at the Glob & Snail, or the Post or any other media rag sheet. When they troll me, I troll ’em right back in the comments and usually end up getting banned – but that’s fair and I’m good with it. At that point I stop reading their dreck, their advertisers or any of their serious work too. Their loss.
For informed commentary you’re pretty much stuck with the blogs these days.
But but but, why would any sane person with even half a brain endorse anyone other than the Conservatives? If Coyne wanted to endorse Justin then he is a far lesser man than I realized.
In the end, who cares, he can have a fit (assuming the story is true). Bottom line is Conservatives now have the endorsement of:
Globe and Mail
National Post
Vancouver Sun
and others.
Endorsements aside, the media (all of them, including the NP) have spent the last several months assaulting Harper on a daily basis. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Speaking of Harper derangement syndrome, here is the last sentence of Conrad Black’s opinion piece today:
“We really cannot have another four years of government by a sadistic Victorian schoolmaster.”
It is actually, in some ways, rather frightening to see the mob pile on that is taking place against Harper.
I agree. IMO the country has made some good progress on many files with common sense breaking out in many areas but a problem originating with our media and elites developed because the ideas driving the counrty forward originate from a dangerous semi-conservative point of view. The hate Harper thing is just a side show. If it wasn’t Mr. Harper it would be someone else taking the heat for this unacceptable turn of events.
Andrw Coyne..?? Who..?
Oh yea, that snide little prick from Toronto…? yea I’ve heard of him and even read a few of his articles…the sheer weight of his arrogance outshines anything he writes.. As to his future – I could give a shit really.
Now to Conrad…Most of his stuff is actually pretty good but His Harper bashing though smacks of mob mentality and childishness.
The true conservative literary gem of our time is Mark Steyn…and for him to join the NP, well, that would be simply awesome.
Agreed on all points Steakman and nold.
I did like Frum’s rebuttle to the Toronto writer who disparaged Harper in the New York Times. It would not surprise me if the Times piece was commissioned by the globalists. I think Canadians are being mislead. Harper is a strong leader who does not waste time on niceties. From a social perspective, this is a weakness. Most of the people who are angry at Harper are complaining about “democracy” being undermined. But I am pretty sure things will be far worse once the globalists/UN agenda kicks in, and it will. Just look at what has happened to democracy in the EU. Unfortunately, this authoritarian streak in Harper is being exploited and exaggerated by the media and progressives. Harper forcefully forges ahead because he is confident he is right and most of the time he is — like on the niqab issue. It is not anti-immigrant,it is anti-niqab and pro Canadian openness and equality. Mostly I want to express that the Canadian sense of fair play is being exploited by the globalists. If Liberals get in democracy will be truly gone.
Larry, if you want to argue the abstract, go right ahead.
The fact is, Black has a stiffy for Harper. Black, another victim of HDS. Or, maybe, Black is looking to get on the Brown Bag payroll of the Liberal Party, who knows what deals have already been made by the backroom gang, at this point.
Black’s avarice is palpable.
A paper that loses $20 to $30 million per quarter including declining digital revenue. Postmedia is on deathwatch. Give it less than 18 to 24 months before it is shuttered. The only ink they print is red. That is all that should matter to anyone that works there. Coyne’s posturing is so that he can go out like a shining star rather than receiving a humiliating layoff notice. Just a big act.
Coyne vs The National Post, an issue that is positively Shakespearean in its dramatic scope:
Much Ado About Nothing.
The NatPost’s last minute endorsement of Prime Minister Harper is too little, too late for me.
They have spent the last 2 months criticizing the Prime Minister and it didn’t go unnoticed by us.
We are charter subscribers to the paper and we were thrilled to have a “conservative” alternative to anything else of the day. That has slowly and distinctly declined in the last few years.
Obviously, if we wanted the pap of the left, we could have gone with the G&M or the Red Star.
The Post will disappear within the next two years because it left its base. It gets thinner and thinner all the time and it doesn’t even run a Monday edition in the summer months.
If the Post had spent half as much time criticizing Justine as they did the PM, I may have reconsidered my decision. But they did not.
The Post is done and Andrew Coyne is the main reason it’s done.
If he leaves and resigns, it’ll just be the first of the rats jumping a sinking ship.
Having the power to influence readers goes to columnists’ heads. As for Conrad Black, he appears to have a personal vendetta against Stephen Harper, and he’s taking it out on the whole of Canada. Not very smart.
“..Coyne’s posturing is so that he can go out like a shining star rather than receiving a humiliating layoff notice.”
Bit more to it than that. He’s feathering his next bed. He’s sending a not-so-subliminal message to the champagne socialist media that he’s really one of them…and would love to be on their payroll.
Principles; what was it Groucho said?
Agree with just about everything that is being said here.
Coyne is an odious Liberal and one of the reasons I stopped reading the Post
The pro-Global warming, pro-muslim invasion, pro CBC, UN bedwetter types are all piling on the Turdeau bandwagon. Coyne is just another one of them.
They are all leading the west to destruction or civil war.
