Reader Tips

Tonight, with election day rapidly approaching and early signs of pessimism threatening to create self-induced voter suppression, we march undaunted into the home stretch with a Liam Clancy classic about faith, hope, courage, and never giving up: here’s Home From the Sea.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

  1. Apparently the cold weather has come early in Europe and Asia, with snow in Moscow and other cities experiencing below-average temperatures.

  2. Oct. 11-12 2015
    Ekos:
    CPC 35.5%
    Lib 33.1
    NDP 19.0
    Nanos:
    CPC 28.9%
    Libs 35.7
    NDP 24.3
    Who should we believe??

  3. One can only hope that drug users will put their country ahead of their personal proclivities. Yes, that is asking a lot from those who regularly put their addictions before others.

  4. The pollsters are all over the map. And the “rolling” pollsters (Nanos and EKOS) are coming up with shifts one day to the next that are too extreme to rationalize. But my favorite part of their “data” is that at least some of them show the Conservatives on top or a close 2nd in Quebec and likely to gain a dozen or two dozen seats. It would be delicious irony if the Conservatives were “saved” and the Opposition stymied by virtue of how Quebec votes!
But regardless of it all, I’m going to remain convinced that enough people will “get serious” when the ballot is in front of them and a pencil in hand….

  5. I voted yesterday in the advance polls. Took about 15 minutes, steady stream of voters while I was there. Seeing as the Media are doing everything possible to manipulate enough idiots to vote for the Prince of idiots Trudozo, I wonder if these Media commissioned polling numbers are simply bullshit. The Media seem to be trying to get enough people to believe Trudozo has the numbers to defeat the “evil Dr. Mr. Harper” if enough NDP voters switch their allegiance to the Trudozo Party. Perhaps appealing to Quebecers. When can you trust the Media on anything? There is a stench of desperation emanating from the Media whores in an all out blitz to defeat “Mithter Harper” so it wouldn’t surprise me if the polls are just a further manipulation and as full of shit as the Media bedwetters.

  6. ” In Jerusalem, two attackers shot and stabbed passengers on board a crowded bus during the morning rush hour, leaving two Israelis dead, including a 60-year-old man, and 16 others were injured. Both perpetrators were shot dead by a police officer. ”

The ‘religion of peace’ doing what they do best.
How soon can we bring a few thousand here ?

  7. If Harper wins a minority, he doesn’t have to recall parliament until February. Constitutionally, he only has to have Parliament sit once in a year. They can only take him down on a money bill. Then post a budget that makes any opposition Party look like a doofus to even vote against it and call an election. Meanwhile, all those goodies he’s enacted in Parliament lately are good to go. Lower corp taxes, family crap, TFSA doubling et al.
The LPOC, NDP, Media Party will tear their hair, gnash their teeth, pout, fall on the floor & wail, wear sack cloth & ashes….and look like complete idiots. They can’t pull off a trip to the GG, like last time for a Putsch. REBEL starts posting their hour long shows in their new studio, dissecting Mulchair & The Horse’s Ass, Beaver and the Media Party for entertainment.
The economy will probably grow, despite Wynne’s & Rachel’s efforts to kill it off. The US/Canada lumber agreement comes up in November this year & Christy will have to suck up to Harper to save their bacon, ergo pipelines to the Wet Coast. Line 9 is approved right now & if you think that the price of oil is going to stay where it is with what is going on right now in the ME, I got some Florida swampland to sell you. TPP sits on the sidelines, because ….”delays”, both over seas & right downtown provincial ratification.

  8. Ekos is:
    Liberal 36
    Conservative 31
    NDP 21
So believe Ekos or Nanos, they are basically the same. Throughout the campaign the polls have almost always been the same (I saw only one exception). People forget about the margins of error. Right now it’s fairly safe to say that the Liberals are in first place. However, their vote distribution isn’t the greatest at that level. So they could still come out second in seats. Plus the election isn’t over. But either way it’ll be a Liberal government because it won’t be a Conservative majority, short of some sort of major Trudeau gaffe before election day; even then a Conservative majority is unlikely.
It’s no reason not to vote, but the next Prime Minister is going to be Justin Trudeau.

  9. Sean M: Re: Media Liberal boosters.
They elected Pierre Elliot in 1968. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
One slight difference. Stephen Harper is not Robert Stanfield. He can put up a fight!!

  10. Mainstreet
    Logical party 33
    Fibbers 31
    Commies 18
    Bloqheads 3
    greentards 5
    UN 10
Its not a Fibber victory quite yet

  11. A wee bit of wishful thinking…
You’re entitled to your opinion, that doesn’t mean it’s widely shared.

  12. The last poll from Mainstreet was a few days ago, it’s outdated – and the numbers you posted ain’t it either. It was within the range of everyone else a few days ago – the correct numbers, that is – but it’s out of date now. There’s strong momentum for the Liberals in the 905 and urban Manitoba as well as some momentum for the Liberals in BC and Quebec. I’m sorry, but anyone thinking the next Prime Minister is anyone other than Justin Trudeau is dreaming in technicolor. Even if the Liberals finish in second Harper can only delay things by a couple of months – at most. And there will never be a budget because the opposition will defeat the government on the Throne Speech, which is what starts every new session. I’ll acknowledge that sometimes people who dream in technicolor turn out to be right. But it’s rare. So I’d start getting use to the title “The Right Honourable” being put before the name “Justin Trudeau”.

  13. Anonymous screams… “Put the retard in charge!!” Birds of feather I guess, technicolor birds.

  14. ” So I’d start getting use to the title “The Right Honourable” being put before the name “Justin Trudeau”.”
Never! It would be too disgusting to have an empty headed puppet with pretty hair sitting in the seat of power with Obama’s stooges pulling the strings.

  15. The funny thing is that the person posting as ” Anonymous” is under impression that whatever she writes can have any effect with SDA readers.
btw.dear anonymous … attempts demoralizing opponent support should be done early in the campaign, at this stage seems like an “amateur hour”.

  16. Ken (Kulak)
Re: ” So I’d start getting use to the title “The Right Honourable” being put before the name “Justin Trudeau”.”
I’m 66 years old, and I’ve yet to hear the words ”The Right Honourable” when referring to a Trudeau. It’s usually a word that starts with ”F” and rhymes with ”Trucking.”
I’m still confident that ”the Right Honorable Stephen Harper” will pull this off.

  17. I’ll never understand partisan types. If your cause is in deep trouble won’t that make you more likely to vote rather than less? Besides, reality is reality. I agree it’s not done yet and the Liberals could finish second. But the odds of a Conservative majority are so remote it’s just not logical to think it’s going to happen. And that means Justin Trudeau will become PM and fill all those empty Senate seats with Liberals. All the polls are aligning the same way, it’s not some conspiracy and it’s not fake just because I’m pointing it out. By the way, I’m not Liberal, NDP or Conservative. In fact, I’m not voting. Probably another thing you can attack me for, but I don’t like any of them any more than the other so it doesn’t bother me that Trudeau is the next Prime Minister of Canada.

  18. I’m waiting for the poll that actually counts. My gut reaction is that the LPC gain is just a turkey bounce. Conservatives didn’t want to waste their Thanksgiving weekend chatting with a pollster.

  19. ah… the twitter generation! no respect for the bandwidth! the thread is called “readers tips” , not ” my worthless opinion, nobody cares about”.

  20. I just don’t see Quebecers rushing out in herds (is that “stampeding”?) to vote for another Trudeau.

  21. It will be the first time that the Premier of Ontario if also Prime Minister. We know how this will end.

  22. Since no one in the media or opposition ever calls Harper P.M. Harper I trust they will only call Justin either Trudeau or Justin.
The only thing that makes me pause about the Liberals winning is the sheer number of seats the Liberals have to win to catch up as Mulcair keeps telling us (plus the laziness of the possible t MSINslacker voters).

  23. Let us hope the voting block in PQ pick blue.
They would have a seat in the cabinet and they wouldn’t have to put up with Liberal corruption.

  24. As a bit of relief from election “news”, see this Ace of Spades post on “problematization” one of the major preoccupations of my academic colleagues at every university at which I’ve worked, at the root of innumerable “academic studies” picked up by innumerable journalistic scroungers, and, through various “funding agencies”, a major drain on the public purse.

  25. Worse still he’d have Wynne advising him from behind the red curtain, she fancies herself as the Deputy Prime Minister in waiting right now.

  26. While the polls are discouraging, I wonder how many “undecideds” are still out there. Once I did not decide until I was faced with an actual ballot. Now you could assume that when the undecideds play out, their choices will reflect the existing poll percentages, but that may not be the case. These people are not “die hard” Harper haters (those people decided long before the election how they were going to vote.) I am thinking that undecideds tend to be cautious, rather than not. That could help the Conservative numbers somewhat. I am still hoping for the best (Conservatives on top by a good margin) and preparing for the worst.

  27. One of the theories as to how David Cameron confounded the polling exports is a large swing of undecideds toward the Tories, as you point out. Other theories for Cameron’s comeback include “shy Tories” (tory voters are less vocal but more determined to vote than left types). And of course pollsters tend to fiddle with their numbers to keep up with herd.
Here (in the rabid left Guardian of all places):
    http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/may/08/election-2015-how-shy-tories-confounded-polls-cameron-victory
Even if things go poorly at least if Justin is held to a minority there will be another round shortly.

  28. Media just discovered that farming is dangerous.
    Who knew?
Except every farming family and their friends.
Naturally the result of the latest tragedy will be more OHS assholes running rampant on every farm, insisting on Standard Operating Procedure Manuals for individual tasks.
Forbidding any family members from actively helping in these family enterprises.
    Certified workers only.
Soon it will be impossible to farm in Canada, we will import all our food and the bureaucrats will brag about their success.

  29. To the individual that refuses to give their name….lets call you Butts for convenience. …lets entertain your prediction.
Its a minority and Leisuresuit Larry needs the support of another party to keep the confidence of the house.
Will he go to the party that still has enough money in the bank to fight another campaign (cpc) or the one that likely doesn’t?
So I’ll posit another theory that you can take back to your “friends”.
I will suggest that Mucliar will exact a heavy price for Leisuresuit Larry to pay politically for his support…in writing. Which would no doubt include a few poison pills.
End result is that if Leisuresuit Larry agrees he will look like he just handed the reigns of power to Muclair, and if he refuses he ends up looking like Joe Clark.
So you got to ask, is really he ready to do what he needs to do to become PM?

  30. From my view. I have family who are very vocal about the evil Harper and tell all the polls how they are gonna vote for the new guy. The one who’s not afraid of medical marijuana. The one who’s not a dictator. But in the end they don’t know when the election is. I’ve seen it a few times now. I’ll ask the next week “did you vote?” Oh damn, when was that? LOL

  32. There is something to the silent majority. I was out on the road side this morning for a little rally and we’d get the odd honk here and there but A TON of people waving. The odd moonbat would yell or give us the finger but most were quietly giving the thumbs up. Even bus drivers etc. They’d be even more stealth about it.

  33. “Elections Canada Confirms Kathleen Wynne Expenses Must Be Paid And Claimed By Trudeau Liberals.”
“Yesterday I filed a complaint with Elections Canada over Kathleen Wynne campaigning for Justin Trudeau and the associated costs. Today alone she attended 4 different Liberal candidate events. She also brings with her staff whose costs must also be claimed by the Federal Liberals and or local ridings.
To their credit, Elections Canada replied , and before even 24 hours after I filed the complaint. They confirmed I was correct and that they were going to refer the complaint to the Commissioner of Canada Elections. They also took it a step further and suggested I file a complaint with the Ontario Ombudsman as well, which I will do in the morning. The following is the text of the email I received from Elections Canada:…”

  34. I don’t think anonymous is saying put the retard in charge. I think he is saying that the retard is going to win. I sure as hell don’t want the retard to win but I think there is a good chance that he will. Don’t forget that half the voters are of below average intelligence. The \liberals formed three governments in Ontario and totally destroyed the place, but if an election was held tomorrow they would be returned to power. never underestimate the power of greed and stupidity.
