There is so much BS in both those articles, you don’t have the bandwidth for me to describe it. I’ll leave it there.

The Mig 29 may have just exploded on it’s own. They are not very reliable aircraft. India has had trouble with their Mig 29’s for years. Russia is also suffering through a spare-parts scandal. Many replacement aircraft parts are sub-standard forgeries.
Russian corruption abounds at all levels, and these types of problems are endemic. Alcohol abuse is also common in the Russian military. One type of jet aircraft runs on grain alcohol. The Russian air force has a hard time keeping the fuel topped up, because the ground crews drink or sell the fuel. Also, the Mig 29 is not great in dog fights. It’s an interceptor, originally designed to zoom up quickly to high attitudes, to intercept US spy planes, like the U-2 and the SR-71 Blackbird.
Russia didn’t send any MiG-29s down, so unless the Syrian Air Force has been playing games near Turkey, I’m disinclined to believe this story.
Mike,
A quick disagreement- the MiG-29 is an exceptional dogfighter. You may be thinking of the MiG-31, which is a bit like a big fast missile truck. I don’t think the Russians are drinking the fuel, but I do know that there was a problem for many years with the MiG-25. The radar apparently had to be cooled with pure grain alcohol, and there was a habit of syphoning this off for personal consumption by the ground crews.
Having said that, I’m not sure if the Russians have fixed the problem with the MiG-29’s short-lifespan engines.
Anyone else remember this story?

I don’t believe any “press” reports coming out of this.
We are being lied to constantly.
Russian Navy fires cruise missiles into Syrian battle space 900 K away in one report.
Another report from the Pentagon says the missiles hit Iran.
Personally, I think the missiles hit their intended target,
That little manboy Obama maybe trying to downplay Russian capability.
Anything out of the US Guv is suspect with the incompetence on display there.
Trump is right everyone out of the middle east …the jews will be fine on their own , let putin deal with the muslims and all id fair in war so he will own the middle east in return he will crush the muslims inbred goat humpers with exptreme predjudice. they need war to drive up the price of oil . trump is right usa pull out dump it all in putins lap . laugh all the way to the bank.
Sat in on a presentation by a retired Canadian General who stated that the Russian
tactical weapons, especially their missiles, were very accurate. Also stated that the
Norad satellite system in Colorado handled most of the targeting for Desert Storm.
NATO should not defend Turkey. Turkey has a large responsibility for the mass invasion of Europe. Turkey wants to re-establish the Ottoman Empire. Turkey is attacking the Kurds.
Why is NATO not read to send troops to stop the muslim invasion of Europe?
Ladies and Gentleman, …. start your armies …… hup, hup, hup.
“NATO should not defend Turkey.”
Turkey is a member of NATO.
Russia has her own GPS system.
GLONASS.
Targeting should not be a problem.
We’ve been through this looking glass before and it didn’t turn out well that time. If you can’t follow the dots and make the connection then you graduated high school after 1975 and received a BA in Women’s Studies or Basket Weaving from an institute of higher learning. It is also a sure bet that you don’t believe in self-defense, that you admire dictatorships, that we can all get along by sitting around the campfire holding hands and singing “Give Peace A Chance” and that unicorn pharts and pixie dust will energize your universe!!!!
If Putin goes into the ME in force he will control the majority of the worlds oil production. He knows what he will gain and the gloves will come off. Meanwhile Obama, Cameron, Merkel and, God forbid either Trudeau or Mulcair, will all sit around the table wringing their hands while we all freeze and starve. Putin controls the majority of energy to Europe, if he turns off the taps this winter while he establishes a base in the ME the West can do nothing. He is a student of history and he has established a game plan far beyond what Hitler did in the Spanish Civil War. We live in interesting times!
So Turkey has been using aircraft to attack targets in Syria but NATO will support Turkey against aggression from Syria. Are we writing Turkey a blank cheque? They struck first.
Obama has a new plan to slow down the Russians, he is sending JAG lawyers to help Putin in targeting the un-acceptable Groups. The same a-holes who play the spoilers for our armed forces.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judge_Advocate_General%27s_Corps

Bingo! Warning: oil prices may fluctuate.
North America’s fracking and oil sands will come in pretty handy.
Only if we can build the refineries and lay the pipelines overnight, otherwise our economies are stifled and we’re all going to suffer.

You are correct. The MiG-25 Foxbat uses alcohol as a coolant, not as fuel, and yes it is siphoned off for drinking.

About dog-fighting. Yes, I understand your point about the dog-fighting capabilities of the Mig 29. Most technical experts agree that the best versions of the Mig 29, aggressively and expertly flown, has great dog-fighting potential. The problem is the real-world performance of the aircraft. Pilots and air-combat experts agree that the Russians do not train their pilots adequately, do not give them enough flight and practice hours, and do not test them enough in rigorous combat exercises.
Or to put it another way, if the Russian-piloted Mig 29 actually engaged in dog-fights against aircraft flown by American or Israeli pilots, it is not expected to do well.
So that’s why I said, “the Mig 29 is not great in dog fights”. It is not expected to do well in the real-world,
