  5. There should be no issue with this video nor the headline supporting it. It does not support any claim of a so-called anti-Harper bias at the CBC and the subsequent calls to defund our national treasure, which some continue to make.
    But for those who are simply not satisfied with this response, you will be pleased to know that just as was done with the decision to contract out weather forecasting to The Weather Network, we are presently in negotiations with BELL Media to contract out our election-related news to The Comedy Network.

    Why anyone would keep secret an offer like that for 17 years is beyond me.
    Apparently, it is beyond the CBC as well — because no so-called journalist with that organization has bothered to ask Mr. Mulcair a question about it. Some things don’t fit in with the CBC’s agenda.
    As I was driving home today, I saw someone with CBC and political stickers on their car bumper putting a CBC election sign back up that had gotten knocked over. As she finished putting that one up, she took the time to put the NDP sign back up as well. The Liberal and Conservative signs knocked over were too much trouble.

  10. I agree. It takes a special brand of intellectual dishonesty for one to allow their own HDS to get in the way of denouncing this nonsense. But that’s precisely what will happen. No different than how the left use Twitter to defend against claims of a left leaning bias in media by posting tweets on the pages of conservative Canadians in defense of the MSM. Yet when you click on their own Twitter page you’ll notice their constantly re-tweeting those very same sources they claim don’t have a bias. They are clearly irony-imparied, not recognizing that when people on one side of the political spectrum line up to deny the existence of bias they are, in fact, reinforcing the validity of the claim by those who are saying that there is. Polarization is the end product of bias and wouldn’t exist without it.

  11. Actually, I’m not upset by this. I remember the CBC’s montage of John Turner’s throat clearing, in the ’88 election I think. It ran for about a minute with Turner’s machine gun-like clearing noises. They’ve done this to both sides, I’ve got no problem with it.

Rather than get upset by a silly and innocuous montage, why not use your creative juices and technical know-how (of which I have none) to do something similar with the opposition leaders’ verbal tics or gestures? Or maybe one of the CBC “stars”? However, that might be fraught with unforeseen consequences … remember how the infamous ad about Jean Chretien’s face backfired? Why not just shrug off this Harper montage?
    You see, getting mad about such CBC silliness & demanding the ombudsman intervene does two things, IMO: one, it perpetuates the image of the angry Tory and two, it contradicts one opinion often voiced by some conservatives, that there’s no such thing as “the right to not be offended”.

    1) Bad editing – poor technical skills with very expensive video equipment, indicating overpaid unskilled juveniles are in charge of production
    2) Betrayal of civil protocol – this is the PM of Canada and CBC is a public servant who should show all due respect for the office
    3) Malevolent bias – the mocking snide innuendo of comparing the PM to a TV evangelist with the “dear friends” cliché
    4) Criminal Intent – this is just a small part of CBC’s multi year campaign to undermine fundamental democracy and sway an election with unrelenting negative one sided narratives
    5) CCBC’s open political bias/partisanism is in breech of their commissioning documents and their own stated ethic –
    6) CBC Ombudsman must be totally disempowered or totally biased placebo position to allow all the above go on for more than a decade
    I don’t necessarily feel the cure is to shut down the CBC – but those running it now must be turfed and full disclosure/accountability and a set of rigid guidelines enforced mandating the CBC’s purpose – it is NOT a billion dollar public vehicle for vindictive SJWs to play with. It should be more like it was – a mix of Canadian entertainment, objective news and journalism, sports, and artistic outlet for film/TV/music that Canadians are interested to hear. Drop the preachy narratives and partisan bias or we drop the Mothercorpse.

  34. Except for a few music programmes on ICI Musique, I more or less abandoned CBC/Radio-Canada some time ago.
    Though BBC has its own problems as an information source, at least in the first 15 minutes of one of its global news reports you do actually get a useful round-up of what’s going on in the world.
    On The National, those first 15 minutes will inevitably revolve around native and transgender concerns (and, because we’re now in the gruesome throes of the most boring Canadian election ever, predictable nonsense from the usual hacks and talking heads).

  40. I have been a long-time proponent of this idea. Turfing the CBC and using the $1 billion plus for a specific purpose, such as Healthcare would blunt the inevitable outcry somewhat. Even the most obtuse lefty would not dare to criticize spending on Healthcare.

    If anybody here is really wants to do something about this, then I suggest a campaign against the companies whose advertising dollars support the CBC. But then again, if it was successful, I’m sure that the governing party – PC, Liberal, or NDP – would just make up any advertising deficiency with some more tax dollars.

    BTW CTV and Global are private broadcasters and every bit as biased as CBC – but if I have cable I can’t help but fund them even if I don’t watch them by the way they tag onto “channel packages” .
    The place to start with all this subsidized mediocrity in news and entertainment here is get at it through the CRTC – remove the official market protection and captive subscribership by removing “tiering” (piggy backing this crappy programming on a channel package with one popular channel) and the defunding will come from subscribers fleeing this substandard preachy lefty piety masquerading as news and entertainment.
    If we had the choice of selecting what we watch and paying only those channels we select without subsidizing unwanted/unwatched channels, CBC and similar sub standard broadcasters would be insolvent in a month.
    I’m told that this change is imminent with CRTC de-regulating cable packages next year and Cable companies are all for it because the sad state of Canadian cable has people going to internet streaming in droves.
