  11. This has to be British Columbia. I well remember my time there (7 years). Yes the scenery is wonderful, yes Stanley Park is the world’s best city park.     A govt employee is told they are getting $50/h.
    After deductions they get $24/h.
    Have taxes been paid?
    Or has the govt lied as to rate of pay?
    It is the same pocket.
    The taxpayers pocket, to which neither the “employer” or employee in this case have contributed.
    The T4 and obligatory tax filing are actually a bureaucratic sham.

  20. And the country is full of these people. Had a neighbour over a couple of weeks ago and we had a discussion re. the TFSA that the Harper government had introduced. His point was that the TFSA only benefited the “RICH”, with that attitude he’d fit right in with this group. Oh! he did fit this group since he’s a retired federal civil servant, you might guess from CRA, honestly you cannot debate with that ingrained mentality.

  23. Something like 60 % of Air Force reserves were double dippers. They gutted and killed 418 City of Edmonton Squadron and enrolled reservists directly in regular force units. Real reservists are such an inconvenience and no-one can build a career on their backs.

  28. Full disclosure I was born in 1949 so I share the boomer lable.
    However I was not lucky enough to continue my education past high school. I went to work, in the mills, piledriving, shipbuilding and repair.
    I am a Red Seal Boilermaker, semi retired, still work parrt time, need the money, frankly.
    No golden 70% of my best 5 years for me.
    Not complaining, it is the life I lived.
    We raised our kids and thrived, were self reliant, shot my moose every year. We did our own meat cutting etc.
    I recognize these well fed, smug faces, they had family connections, university degrees etc.
    I could always tell who they were about 30 seconds after meeting them.
    They couldn’t change a tire, fix the simplest thing on their car or house.
    No matter how well paid, they were never happy, or had enough priveledge.
    This fellow can now sing for his supper, and good luck to him.
    From what I can see and hear he is going to need it.

  32. I am noticing a lot of anti-Harper articles in the international press. For example the Guardian had a story on this which of course made no mention of what the real issue is here. They had about 4 or 5 other anti-Harper hit pieces. Some will remember the very unbalanced diatribe in the New York Times last week. The coverage seems very odd to me, since we know these media sources seldom cover Canada, plus, some of these pieces are nothing more than propaganda — not theleast bit balanced. So, it looks like Harper may have offended the globalists who are determined to oust him. Canadians need to wake up before it is too late.

    You see it over and over. Event the heretofore conservative National Post spends more column inches and editorials on Duffy than they do on most topics. They even send Christie Blatchford to the trial. (Increasingly it looks like the NP journalists are angling for jobs as the Toronto Star.)

  38. Yeah,me too,Bubba, born in ’48, like you I worked for a living most of my life,though I spent 11 years in the civil service( after working about ten years in the private sector) which was interesting.
    There were two distinct CS types I worked with, type 1: guys who had worked in private industry then took the CS exam and made a career there,though they never forgot where they’d come from and always treated the private sector with due respect, and type 2: career civil servants who had joined up after school or college and had never worked at anything else.
    It was from the latter ranks that the real radicals came, socialists and outright communists, who never had a good word to say about the government that paid them their salaries. When dealing with the private sector these guys had an adversarial attitude that was quite unnecessary and counter productive.
    I’d bet Ezra’s spot on with his speculation that many of the background singers are civil servants,active or retired.

    My sentiments exactly. If any one of this group was asked how many times Harper has lowered the GST or personal income tax he or she wouldn’t be able to provide an answer. Hell, I’d be surprised if any of them is capable of preparing a personal tax return without their accountants and upon receiving their fat tax refund they probably blame Harper because it’s not bigger. They all, no doubt, strongly support the CBC but have no clue as to the amount of the annual subsidy or that a subsidy even exits. And by strongly support, I don’t mean monetarily. It’s not the socialist way to use one’s own money. Do any of them know what’s going on in Greece or Venezuela where socialism is embraced? Can any of them find Greece or Venezuela on a map?
    I would be willing to bet that this sorry collection of bozos were college professors or civil servants prior to retirement.

    First, being notorious sore losers, they would have to fling sour grapes in all directions. I can still fondly recall listening to Nettie Wiebe my NDP candidate and perennial loser being on the radio lecturing the voters in Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar about the horrific mistake they made electing a Conservative. Wiebe had plenty of practice since she lost three in a row to two different Conservative ladies, both of whom made excellent MP’s.
