The Sound Of Settled Science

Daily Caller;

Global temperature change observed over the last hundred years or so is well within the natural variability of the last 8,000 years, according to a new paper by a former Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change (IPCC) lead author.
Dr. Philip Lloyd, a South Africa-based physicist and climate researcher, examined ice core-based temperature data going back 8,000 years to gain perspective on the magnitude of global temperature changes over the 20th Century.
What Lloyd found was that the standard deviation of the temperature over the last 8,000 years was about 0.98 degrees Celsius- higher than the 0.85 degrees climate scientists say the world has warmed over the last century.
“This suggests that while some portion of the temperature change observed in the 20th century was probably caused by greenhouse gases, there is a strong likelihood that the major portion was due to natural variations,” Lloyd wrote in his study.

  1. Then there’s Scar’s Theorem on greenhouse gas. It causes moderation of extremes, not warming. It might even be true.

  2. The science has never mattered because corruption trumps all.
The US Senate RIM trade bill has grave consequences for those that oppose the UN carbon AGW agenda. The Bill incudes~ 1 trillion (taken from US SS trust fund) that Obama will use to bribe China & Asia to support upcoming international AGW agreements….Kiss your ass good-bye

  3. China has been a major beneficiary of Maurice Strong’s global warming agenda, as it is. The carbon credit program has been used to build state-of-the-art mills and plants in China, while we in the West pay for them. It’s a SCAM, which must not be criticized, according to those who always seem to benefit. The U.N. with its Agenda 21 is up to its neck in defrauding developed countries and rewarding bad actors. (This issue drives me nuts, because it’s so glaring on the local level.)

  4. Slap Shot, Obama has already agreed to let the Chinese increase emissions until 2030. They, and India are industrializing as fast as they can. Any Obama deal with the Chinese and probably the Indians will be just like the Iran nuclear deal – Photo ops of smiling Yanks with their counterparts in exchange for giving up just about nothing.
I firmly believe that the Chicoms, any time they have a reason to think of us in the West, simply smile to themselves and continue doing what they want to do.

  5. The 10 per cent higher standard deviation found by Lloyd is a lot. If his work is borne out elsewhere, it means the entire work of the IPCC degenerates into meaningless noise. It also pretty conclusively knocks on the head the notion of increased CO2 driving increased water vapour. In short, so much for the IPCC positive feedback model.

  6. Muaruce Strong and his ilk need to be alll marooned on some ditent planet might i suggest Tuarus II inhabited by these nasty gorilalike creatures that carry spears as big a tlephone poles or maybe Hoth allow him to get the know a whompa

  7. A continuation of GCD, not global climatic disruption, rather the glibberring climb down of the bedwetters .
Expect more and more such statements of the bleeding obvious as the scam implodes.
Not to denigrate this paper as I have not read it yet.. But the entire signal of CAGW was and is smaller than the noise inherent in the temperature measurements.
Claiming 0.5 or even 0.9 as a significant trend from data with an error range of 2 to 7 Degrees C is idiocy.( best case + or – 1C.. normal +/- 2-4C).

  8. To use the three basic arguments of the ‘progressives’:
    1 You’re racist
    2 That is not sustainable
    3 SHUT UP

  9. Another article on an obscure website, but at National Newswatch and on all the Canadian TV networks, not a mention of this.
There are TWO articles on climate change at NN, one is about the CEO of an oil company calling for a carbon tax, and the other article refers to the same story.
It’s enough to make you gnash your teeth in frustration, but the MSM is complicit in this fraud and covers up every revelation such as this post.
I have faith, though, that Canadians will eventually rebel, about ten years after they’ve taken away our guns.
I wonder if the government of that day will turn the firehoses on us toothless wonders with walkers and canes.
    Yeah.

  10. Good piece.
To answer your question about why Harper if going along with this. I hope his thinking is that if Chretien got away with the Kyoto BS maybe he can also. If he really has bought into the fraud like Manning has then we are up the creek without a paddle.

  11. If everything economic stays on course we will be in a world wide depression or a war long before any of today’s promises are implemented. The economy is already the number 1 concern in all polls and climate change is in last place. Politicians are only concerned about losing the ability to tax a .038% trace gas essential for life, so the scam continues in spite of all evidence that it’s the greatest hoax in the history of mankind. Harper get’s a lot of green votes by playing the game so there’s no logical reason to rain on this parade, but I doubt if he believes in any of it. Obama on the other hand not only believes, but is brainwashed beyond hope and change, and unfortunately Canada and the USA are joined at the hip, so there’s a certain diplomacy at work here. It’s a game with global consequences and China, India, Russia and Indonesia have been playing Chess while the free world plays Checkers. Needless to say, the free world is losing, which is indicative to what we are willing to sacrifice in the name of anything green. Meanwhile China is building a new coal fired generating plant every week, and laughing at the stupidity of the west. Can’t blame them.

  12. Good, but it should be 4 arguments, just remember “It’s for the CHILDREN”.

  13. “…. temperature change observed in the 20th century was probably caused by greenhouse gases…”
I don’t know about you guys but “probably” is good enough for me to justify draining trillions out of Western economies so we can watch the rest of the world party with it.

  14. temperature change observed in the 20th century, directly attributable to the sun.

  15. Tom, I just read your piece in the TS. I was confused why you mentioned Harper at all. You reference him in the first and last sentences but the entire piece is about what is happening outside of Canada (which would have been excellent on its own – you had a great message there).
Why did Harper announce a plan on climate change? He had to before the next election. His opposition is then reduced to arguing about this or that part of his plan rather than labeling him a climate denialist. He just took climate change out of the election.
For similar reasons the CEO of Suncor is now proposing a carbon tax. The CEO claimed they are trying to help Canada move into a position of leadership on the climate file. No. They are trying to stick handle the puck into the net that does the least damage. A carbon tax is passed directly onto consumers and will eventually see push-back. Increases in royalties will directly hurt oil companies. Increases in corporate income tax are also a direct hit to oil companies so a carbon tax is looking pretty good right now. Especially in Orange Alberta.
