This is a fountain in Huntington Park in the Nob Hill neighbourhood of San Francisco:

Brrrrrr. A typically-freezing night in SF. PS … stick to the quality neighborhoods up there on Nob Hill. Venture too far down hill, and you be photoblogging human urine and feces. Not quite as artistic as illuminated fountains
Not a fan of HDR. It’s like turning up the base and treble and damping the mid-range on the radio. I know it is a great technique for shooting after dark, but a little restraint is in order.
But I know other people love it.
I remember the first time I was in SF. A friend and I were on our way to LA, sort-of non-stop from Calgary. Left Calgary after work on Friday, arrived in LA about 36 hours later.
Anyway we had come across the Golden Gate Bridge, drove down twisty ol’ Lombard Street and over to Coit Tower. Parked the car in front and when I got out, there was a chalk outline of a guy who had gotten hisself bumped off the night before. That was about 39 years ago and to this day, anytime anybody mentions San Francisco, that image pops up in my mind.
Funny thing about first impressions…
We were there Christmas about 13 years ago, warm enough for the Canucks to go try the outdoor pool
Yes we were the only ones. I’d say 50 F. More than 50 degrees warmer than home
It looks like the fountain is being lit by one of those ultra-bright light fixtures that are employed when doing roadworks at night.
Robert, as usual, beautiful clear photos. Great work.
SF – a whole lotta bottom-feeders camping out there. I guess a bit like home but on a much larger scale – and all-season too Kinda like a never ending massive collection of Occupy personalities. They get turned away from using the facilities in private businesses so they just poop in public areas all over the city. Couple that with the city’s short-sighted (green) program to finance homeowners replacing their toilets with low-flush models, resulting in very costly obstructions in the sewer system due to insufficient water flow. That brings the stench to a whole new level. Nothing to brag about. Tony Bennett might consider changing his trademark song – maybe about somewhere on the map with a more wholesome charm, ……like Winnipeg!
I visited San Francisco back in the 70’s before the wierdos and freaks took over went to fishermans warf ate at the FISERMANS GROTTO #9 went to the zoo and the aquarium.planetatium and went to the beach
Nice photos! I live across the street (on Sacramento & Taylor) and photograph there often. And I’m a regular SDA reader (and occasional h/t-per.
Serene Huntington Park is blissfully free of the OccupySF crowd. One of the park’s charms!

Even when its 21 degrees below zero some craked urns like James Hansen will blame it on Global Warming so will Al Gore,David Suzuki and Robert Kennedy Jr ENVIROMENTALISM is the religion of IDIOTS
Why visit San Francisco? It is a cultural Detroit, but worse than Detroit, because its citizens tolerate, if they did not actually create, the nihilistic post modern wasteland it has become.
When are they due for the next big earthquake to rattle them when their holding their stupid GAY PRIDE DAY
