The all-party House of Commons’ health committee has released their report on electronic nicotine delivery. Not a bad report. I am left feeling a bit uneasy about the potential regulations regarding flavouring. However I do notice my local juice shop has already moved away from naming some of their flavours after popular candies.
The Nat. Post story.
Of course, reason escapes the power-hungry killers in Ontario and the left coast.
So, here’s hoping that a conservative approach will be in the works for any tabled national regulation.
1 year, 1 month cigarette free because of vaping, thank you.

Good news! It’s probably still too early to invest in bingo halls again though huh =).
Typical of the government to complicate the hell out of a product that’s basically harmless and is turning people on to a product that may save countless lives. Health Canada is certainly hesitant to relinquish the power trip its been on and activists hate it because they can see the rug being pulled out from under them. Petty and spiteful comes to mind. Certainly no logic involved.

Canada is THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, IN WHICH TO LIVE, but I wish our governing bodies would stay TO HELL, and out of our lives insofar as what we put in ……..OUR OWN BODIES!
Leave me put as much sugar in or on my food, inhale as much tobacco smoke as I please, pickle my liver with CANADIAN CLUB OR LABATT’S BEER as ever …………I want!
BUT STAY TO HELL OUT OF MY PERSONAL LIFE…. NOW AND FOREVER!!!
just keep PUTIN THE RUSSIAN IN CHECK and keep OBAMA well at arms length dealings, he cannot be trusted on a handshake deal.
I AM
Joe Molnar
April 1st marks one full year for the wife and I. After 35 years, no more smoking.
I shudder with rage every time I hear a politician utter the word “ban”. It offends me more than any other insult to my intelligence and integrity. It is a reminder this parasitic class of grifters think of us as cattle – dumb beasts – unable to make personal decisions totally at their service and command – like feudal bond servants whom the master has claim over their body and soul.
The bottom line is I don’t need some assclown poser’s permission to do anything with my body – my body and personal habits are not theirs to rule. They have no more authority to tell me what to smoke than they do to dictate my diet or how much air I can use.
Middle finger to all of them on this and many other personal choices.
Is this something I’d fight over? Friggin eh right it is, there is nothing else worth a fight if it isn’t your own personal freedom, because when you lose that you become someone’s slave.
Of course the Ontario Lieberals hate vaping. They need smokers to keep paying the excise taxes on cigarettes so they can subsidize windmills.
I’ve been vaping for two months now and quite happy with it.
Unfortunately the government, which doesn’t have a soul, will find away tomake it just as expensive as cigarettes….
So, based on the comments by Joe and Al:
“The bottom line is I don’t need some assclown poser’s permission to do anything with my body”
“but I wish our governing bodies would stay TO HELL, and out of our lives insofar as what we put in ……..OUR OWN BODIES!”
they are also in favour of immediate legalization of marijuana, cocaine, and heroin?
I have no problem with people using these but I still think that if I have to go outside to smoke, vapers should have to join me out there. Non smoking areas help and encourage people to quit too.
Buricrats making easy tasks more difficult since day one But at least there were no buricrats in the garden of eden unless you mean the snake
“But at least there were no buricrats in the garden of eden unless you mean the snake”
Another good one Spurwing, you nailed it and the slime have been with us ever since.
Vapers are non-smokers, TBall.
Calling it “juicing” is foul. Just saying. Who wants “juice” in their lungs? Isn’t that the definition of pneumonia? Not sure who ever came up with that, but it just creates an image of tobacco juice dribbling from the lip. Better to stick with “vaping”. I am not saying I don’t support the right to do it, I am just saying it sounds sort of disgusting.
Has any reporter ever asked those who criticize the distribution and marketing of e-cigarettes how they justify that while promoting legalization of marijuana? Just asking……
It’s all about da money. If they can regulate it, they can tax it.
My wife recently took up using an e-cigarette and hasn’t touched a cigarette since. She uses it in the house with which I have no problem. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that the vapors being released are no more harmful than those emitted from a vaporizer containing Vicks or a steaming kettle. Meanwhile, I stand outside freezing my ass off to indulge in my habit until such time that I decide to switch.
The proponents of e-cigarettes are faced with an uphill battle. Formidable opponents include government (taxation), Big Tobacco (competition) and busy-body zealots (addiction to controlling others). Years of demonization of smokers has conditioned the general public to immediately view nicotine users as weak, evil and dirty. This preconception will be extremely difficult to overcome. Hopefully common sense will prevail.
I would not bet on it. It would be almost a first for common sense to prevail in a bureaucrat’s or politician’s office. They are too addicted to people and tax control.
Some human rights commission determined that smoking weed in a business was a right because it was medicine. Vapor is medicine – I don’t get the difference.
I used a motivational technique to quit smoking. It is called a heart attack. Haven’t had one since.
All the regulations won’t change the fact that people will vape wherever they want to simply because it leaves no trace. Short story here. Lance had a post on this subject about 5-6 weeks ago which caught my interest as I have 2 close family members that smoke. One enjoys it with no intention of quitting, the other had tried to quit several times and fell off the wagon primarily because his wife begged him to have a smoke due to his deteriorating normally jovial mood…severely. Lance’s article and the many fine posts, plus 2 hrs on the net researching the pros and cons (all pros….no cons) sent me out to purchase two vaping starter kits which I gave as a gift for them to try as their birthdays were coming up shortly. To shorten the story further, neither has had a cigarette in over a month and they both love it. Although I have always put out the ashtrays when they visit,(we aren’t politically correct) when they were over a couple of weekends ago they both vaped in the house for a 6 hr period and when they all departed, the wife and I could smell no trace of smoking. End of short story. So how are they going to regulate something that leaves no trace or smell ? They can (and have) vape anywhere. This is here to stay and if the regulations reach the normal government ignorance it will just move underground. Lastly, both of them are pleased they are now saving well over $100 per month, as a small bottle of vaping liquid costs only $6.50 and is equivalent to a carton of cigarettes. Thanks Lance. Owe you lunch if we ever meet.
Overall this is good.
HOwever, I am not fond of this: “It suggests banning their use in federally regulated public spaces, though acknowledges there is little evidence the vapour could harm other people.”
So, they want to ban it from public use regardless of the evidence. What BS. It’s supposed to be a free country. Things that harm nobody should never be banned.
“So how are they going to regulate something that leaves no trace or smell ?”
Just watch them. Banning smoking in parks and other outdoor areas makes no sense whatsoever yet many jurisdictions simply cannot wait to do it. Remember … it’s not about health. It’s about control and the insatiable thirst to ban something you don’t like.
I agree fully that professional busybodies never quit, but until you see a “no vaping” sign, other rules don’t apply. You are not smoking or exhaling second hand smoke. There’s no cigarette, pipe or cigar in your possession and bylaws as written do not apply to vaping. I’m sure the health nuts will see red and scramble for action, but for the time being you can demand to be charged, which even a poor lawyer will get thrown out or just tell them to get stuffed. Whichever is most satisfying. It would be nice if some pissed off vaper with moderately deep pockets would challenge this in court as the proof of burden to do harm would be with the prosecution and all the valid evidence to the contrary is with the defendant. I’m sure that will come eventually. For now and after a lot of research, the main opposition is this :
Activists
1 It looks like you’re smoking.
2 The children will get hooked, think of the children.
3 The science is not settled.
4 No understanding of the technology.
5 Loss of activism’s holy grail. A lifetime of holier than thou mentality shattered.
Government.
1 Massive loss of revenue.
2 Pressure from health activists.
3 Incomplete studies. (Used and proven harmless since ’93) Invented in China.
4 Needs more study.
Airports and Airlines
1 It looks like you’re smoking and would cause real smokers to light up.( I can understand this stance for now)although they will probably keep this easy path of least resistance in the near future. No cost and no confusion.
Big Pharma.
1 Loss of revenue and they have a huge investment in anti smoking products that in most cases don’t work and some can actually be dangerous.
2 Advertisers also see a huge loss of revenue as hundreds of millions are spent annually on anti smoking products and campaigns.
So that’s about it. No logic or common sense but it’s kind of like not selling food to a moderately obese person ’cause it looks like they might be chewing. That’s Canada today. Land of the free. I don’t even smoke and I see this as idiotic.
The way the ruling class will attack vaping is by requiring lengthy, expensive trials to demonstrate the safety of the liquids. This will put the business in the hands of huge corporations, who will hire lobbyists who worked in the regulatory agencies or former legislators; the usual corruption. This will also help the tobacco companies- de facto ( though unwilling ) tax collectors preserve their sales, and the gov’s tax revenue.
Fourth hand smoke—–seeing you smoking or appearing to….
The Smoke Nazi’s will not surrender their power to bully without a fight.
