    It’s official now, according to the Telegraph: Clarkson (for those who haven’t seen the show, he’s the longtime host of BBC’s hugely popular Top Gear) is being sacked.
    If you scroll down you can see his replacement Chris Evans — he’s the ponce in the oversized glasses.

  2. Just did some glossing over the opp ed pages and it appears Leisuresuit Larry isn’t able to fall back on the old liberal strategy of trying to be on all sides of an issue.
    Looks like the media isn’t ready to run cover for him any more and those ads about him bring in over his head are proving to be on the money.

    During cross-examination, Negar Hashemi, the government’s lawyer, asked Ms. Ishaq why she preferred to live in Canada, rather than Pakistan, “a country with Islamic laws that includes your religious views.”
    The woman replied she considered Pakistan a Muslim country, but not an Islamic one, because it was “not obeying the laws in, like, whatever Islam has told us to do.”
    Males and females, for instance, are not educated in separate classrooms, she said. “They are not following this rule back home … it’s been co-education.”
    She added there are “a lot of … fields” in the workplace where there could be a separation of genders, “but there is no separation.”
    Asked by Ms. Hashemi whether she would like to see men and women separate during Canada’s citizenship ceremonies, Ms. Ishaq said such a move would “definitely give me something more than I asked” and her main objective was being allowed to keep her face covered while saying the oath.
    “But if after that they can do for me some separation, it’s more than — yes, I do appreciate for this, too.”
    On Tuesday, she said if the niqab ban were lifted, there would be no need for such an accommodation.

    I read you loud and clear!! I must say that peterj has some damned good posts on this site, however I do believe (much like myself) that we all get out of hand from time to time. And this right wing obsession can really get out of hand.

    Do you see anything in there about government handouts?? TOMS shoes is a corporation, If it bothers anyone that young children in developing countries may receive a pair of shoes for free from TOMS, than just don’t buy TOMS shoes–end of story. Apparently, a study showed that the kids who got free shoes would later expect more similar help ” for free.” (I call total BS on that.)
    I likened the situation to driving through a Saskatchewan blizzard and finding someone stranded on the highway and nearly freezing to death. Should I not offer him or her a ride?? Does it it mean that if I offer that person a free ride. he or she will later feel that they can get a free ride whenever they need one?? Of course not!
    I was labeled a leftist, and told by another reader that I didn’t understand charity, that charity begins at home.
    The truth is that I believe in Conservative politics. But I also believe that we need to help our fellow man to the best we can. I was raised in a family that sends money to third world countries. My niece has served with Doctors Without Borders and World Vision, I’m proud of her. I give what I can. And I agree with Joe.Conservative that giving kids crap drinks is detrimental to their health. The end.

  19. Being conservative doesn’t mean one doesn’t help out one’s fellow man. The difference between the Right and the Left is that the Right position is that such help should be voluntary, while the Left is wrong.
    As far as the juice thing: this isn’t individual private businesses (daycares) making this decision; it is a mandate from the city government. How the Left can square the circle of “my body my choice” for abortion but insist on micromanaging individual’s diets is beyond my intellect.

  21. As much as it pains me to say this, I have a hard time finding any enthusiasm for us getting further entangled in Iraq and Syria. I think this is a big mistake. I read what May said, and I think she is right, and Harper is wrong. There. I said it, painful though it is to say. OK, have at me.
    Here is what will happen – we will spend bilions. We will fail to achieve anything lasting. And we will inherit 10’s of thousands of Iraq/Syrian refugees, just as we did in Somalia and in Afghanistan.
    I truly do not support this decision.

  26. Joe, you might want to wake up and read PeterJ’s Tips once again. You got Peter all wrong. Neither Peter nor anyone else here is suggesting little kids should drink unlimited “pop”. Peter’s Tips were about government controlling and regulating every aspect of one’s life. They come for your pop now and come for what you read or think and say in the future.

  27. @joe conservative: Were you being sarcastic or just trying to shake things up by trolling? Your comment makes no sense. Dylan’s music/lyrics have been used by many different musicians from country/western to rock and folk. None of his work is overtly political though much of his early work dealt with social issues. Maybe you have confused one for the other?
    Do you watch Jane Fonda movies or do you boycott those as well? How about James Cameron movies? Was Avatar a favorite?

    We should not elide the political and artistic spheres. That’s commie country.
    The simple truth is that the overwhelming majority of artists lean left/liberal.
    Probably because of the symbiotic relationship with emotion/fantasy.
    I don’t pick my artists for their ideological positions. I pick them for making good art.
    I don’t know a lot about art but I know what I like. :-).
    One of my great epiphanies while riding the continent: the great joy in arriving in the small liberal town of Blowing Rock N Carolina with all the cafes, hand crafted ice cream shops, micro brews etc. Oh frabrous joy!
    A veritable oasis!!
    But then, I’m a Latte Libertarian.
    I get a similar vibe when I visit a good friend in Nelson BC.
    As I said to my friend: liberals do a really nice job on things like small towns.

  30. Joe Conservative is guilty of gassing off while being completely misininformed. Dylan is not, and never has been, a communist. Early on in his career he controversially “fled” – abandoned, renounced – the so-called protest movement who tried to claim him as one of their own. He wasn’t, and in all his work since then, and in his interviews, it’s pretty clear that he’s a man of the right, albeit an independent thinker.
    I mean, here’s a guy who wrote the best (only?) viciously anti-Union song ever (“Union Sundown”), a song defending Israel in the strongest terms (with the tongue-in-cheek title “Neighborhood Bully”), and numerous songs (dozens?) renouncing the breakdown of Christian morality and the need to return to scriptural standards of right and wrong. Are any of those things “communist”?
    He said in a recent interview with the AARP that it’s not the government’s responsibility to create jobs (“That is a false premise. But if you like lies, go ahead and believe it. The government’s not going to create jobs.”) Does that sound like a communist?
    I don’t know why people like Joe say things that aren’t true, and talk about things they know nothing about.
