  1. I think that over the long term this is to Canada’s benefit. The cancellation of Keystone XL makes it very clear that it is in Canada’s best interest to develop alternative markets for fossil fuels, and alternative methods of getting these fuels to market.
If this decision spurs the development of a pipeline from Alberta to Canada’s east coast – with improved access to German, Scandinavian, and especially Indian markets – then Canada’s oil patch will no longer be at the mercy of shifts in the US political winds when politicians (I’m thinking not only Obama, but also future US presidents) pander to the green vote.
Also, the US economy is going to take a while to bounce back – if it ever does. But India is growing, and it’s a big market.

  2. What Marcopohlo said.
If they don’t want the inside track on our oil, fine. Energy East all the way. And we will still sell our oil to them. But they will have to get in line with all the others. Methinks that Europe might be getting sick of having to deal with Vlad the thug anyway.

  3. The problem is that XL made the most sense because the extra capacity for refining and blending heavy oil lies along the Gulf coast. They’ve been using heavy oil from Venuzuela for that purpose. Using a product from your non-communist friend and ally should be a no-brainer.

  4. Using a product from your non-communist friend and ally should be a no-brainer.
Well, yeah, unless you are a Communist yourself, like Obamugabe.

  5. A few years ago I heard that Warren Buffet made a HUGE investment in Burlington Northern rail. At that moment I knew there was no way Keystone XL would ever be approved by the Bozo in chief.

  6. “The Chief” in uniform on the phone finally twigged my “separated at birth” nagging mind worm.
Expression not unlike one of the colder and very nefarious WW2 Japanese Army War Criminals.

  7. Listen to the eco-freaks act like drilling for oil was a sin well at least in their minds itsa sin becuase their so int to this Gaia Hypothaith blabbered to them by the usial back to nature eco-freaks and if you ever watched drivel like Captian Planet of the crap movie AVATAR or listened to the mindless babblings of E.O. Wilson and James Lovelock

  8. What is remarkable these continuing claims that the Keystone Oil will be exported by ship at the Gulf.
    1) Why would the same product be exported that is being imported from Venezuela.
    2) The are no facilities to load tankers in the Gulf…..lotsa unloading stuff though…
Just more stuff made up to justify the malfeasance….
It is a no brainer to know that Athabaska crude has driven down the crude oil price, causing financial pressure on OPEC and Russia….and the Rockefellers etc.

  9. Screw Robert Redford and the Sierra Club and Greenpeace as well and the facts are that the Greenpeace ships Arctic Sunrise and Rainbow Warrior II Diesel Engines and in fact a few years ago the Arctic Sunrise was fined for leaking dieel fuel intoa Alaska River
