  1. While hunting, electric eels periodically give off two high-voltage pulses separated by a 2 millisecond pause, causing a massive involuntary twitch in nearby hidden prey… The eels, highly sensitive to water movements, can detect motion caused by the twitch, learning the other fish’s location.
The eel then delivers a full blast of a longer, high-voltage shock to immobilize the prey through involuntary muscle contraction – much like a Taser – enabling easy capture.

  2. Gun control won’t solve real gun problem
    BRIAN LILLEY
So the murder rate is down. Shooting deaths are down, even without the gun registry. Even handgun deaths are down and we know most crimes committed with handguns involve illegal handguns, often ones smuggled in for criminals and gangs from the United States.
That is the real gun problem in Canada — illegal guns — and it is a tough one for any politician to tackle. So instead of dealing with the difficult problem, Trudeau and Mulcair are promising that if elected next year they will punish law-abiding gun owners for the crimes of those who have no respect for any law.

Just weeks after their gala 100th birthday bash held in Washington, D.C., at a cost of over $150,000 — attended by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, chaired by Bill Clinton, and with a performance by Wynton Marsalis — Hughes immediately announced an extensive executive change that spelled the magazine’s quick demise.”

Peggy Nash, NDP MP says Ontario being economically hurt by PMSH refusing to meet the Ont premier, in “like a year.” It’s Harper’s fault , not crushing electricity prices, not incompetent government, not job killing redundant pension plans, and certainly not because of her “smirking” remarks after their last “private” meeting. 11. Rex Murphy: Has the environmental movement ever seen a collapse it didn’t want to be on the brink of?
The particulars do not matter. Pipelines, in fact, are not really the issue, nor have they ever been. If oil could be transported from west to east, north to south, in titanium containers with impregnable seals and under Archangelic guard for every inch of the way, it would still be resisted. For it is a law with environmental protest that as soon as one of its objections has been met, there is always another. Nature is always about to lose something. There will be a bug, a plant, a lichen on a lonely rock, or a landlocked seagull that will be lost forever, ripped from the Great Chain of Being, by the wicked incursions of vile man.
As it was once the seal and the spotted owl, as it was later the polar bear, so now it is the beluga.
Environmentalism can be defined as a movement that can only exist in a world that has defied its imperatives. There are no flashmobs, no Twitter campaigns, no networking of activists or oil sands tours, no media coverage — except in those countries where the economies have provided the technology, and the leisure, for what is essentially a parasitic endeavour.
