In tonight’s musical entertainment en route to the tips Welsh vocal group Trio Canig pull off that rarest of musical accomplishments: a not excessively scenery-chewing rendition of the old standby Danny Boy. Wait a few seconds for the lovely harmonies to kick in.

  1. Another vile heretic:

Actress Veena Malik was sentenced this week to 26 years in prison by a Pakistani court for reenacting her wedding with her husband on a morning TV show. Her husband, Asad Khattak, as well as Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, the owner of Geo TV, which aired the program, and Shaista Whidi, who hosted it, all received 26 year sentences as well.

Sayeth the judge (translated from Urdu, I presume):

“The malicious acts of the proclaimed offenders ignited the sentiments of all the Muslims of the country and hurt the feelings, which cannot be taken lightly and there is need to strictly curb such tendency.”

  2. Hydrogen buses that were once lauded as the future of clean transportation in B.C.are being replaced by old-fashioned diesel power.
The 20 vehicles were part of a high profile, $90-million plan to showcase hydrogen power during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler.
BC Transit is now taking bids on the buses and will either sell them off or have them converted to use diesel or other fuel.
According to Burnaby’s Ballard Power Systems, which manufactures fuel cell engines, Whistler’s hydrogen buses cost $1.34 per kilometre to maintain, versus 65 cents per kilometre for diesel-powered buses.

  3. John Galt:
    That’s too funny!!
”Eh–fill ‘er up with Hydrogen and check the oil. Opps–sorry–wait a second–I’m at the wrong pump–this is a diesel now!! Er–do you have winter fuel…??”
    Vote Liberal!

  4. A special thank you and Seasons Greetings to Pres.Clinton, W Bush and most of all Pres. Obama for finally doing what our enemies could never achieve, making America #2. Also a special mention for Al Gore, the EPA, the UN and the IRS for your valiant effort in shutting down economic growth wherever possible. So many individual politicians to thank but it takes too much room and time. To all you brain dead voters that allowed this…….enjoy the decline.

  5. Four-and-a-half-million dollars per bus? And twice the price of a regular bus to operate?
Ontario would take that deal any day of the week! How soon can Queen’s Park get their hands on them?

  6. And speaking of western Canadian ideas that would fit right it at Queen’s Park, here’s another from Alberta’s Ontario Liberal Environment Minister:
“We’re past the point where there’s any debate around the science of climate change.”
    http://www.nationalnewswatch.com/2014/12/05/alberta-to-talk-about-consistent-carbon-price-at-climate-change-conference/#.VIGl62f5it9
And why was it, again, that Jim Prentice was fraternizing with Kathleen Wynne, who’s promised to campaign with Justin Trudeau (he thinks Alberta’s culture is a little less good than his own, recall) and who’s trying to undermine Alberta’s position on the Energy East pipeline?

“As fall gives way to winter, meteorologists from the U.S. East Coast to the shores of Western Europe will be watching for signs that the next storm heading their way will turn into a bomb.
    That’s right — a bomb.
It’s when a storm — for the U.S., often a nor’easter coming up the East Coast — gets significantly stronger over a 24-hour period, said Paul Kocin, a meteorologist with the U.S. Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland.”

“60-Hour Blizzard Paralyzes Northern China, Russian Orient: 90 cm Snow, 105 km/hr Winds, Minus 20°C!”
“The main media often avoid reporting catastrophes involving bitter cold winter conditions, as it may cause the public to doubt global warming. So it’s little wonder that they have opted not to report on an ongoing massive blizzard pounding the Russian Orient, northern parts of China and extending to northern Japan.
However, the smaller media outlets are picking up where the mainstream media is slacking off.
The French language http://www.catnet.net reports here on “a very powerful snowstorm” that has hit the Russian Orient and Northern China and pumped very cold Arctic air into the region. It writes:”

  9. Eric Garner’s Death Has Nothing to Do With Racism and Everything to Do With Bad Nanny State Laws
Matt Welch cuts through the crap.

‘Killed over selling untaxed cigarettes. What a shame!’ Yes, it is a shame, but who decided to make it a crime to buy a box of cigarettes and sell a few of them? Who decided that depriving the city and state of tax revenue ought to be a criminal matter? Who decided to ruthlessly track down and punish anyone who cheats the government out of a few pennies? Who decided to employ cops as fundraising agents for the State? Who made it nearly impossible for an average Joe to afford cigarettes in New York with the rationale that the average Joe shouldn’t smoke in the first place? Who turns petty acts into crimes and then allocates police resources towards prosecuting those crimes? Who goes around thinking of ways to meddle in every aspect of American life? Who made the Nanny State?

I’d like you to consider using “No Woman No Drive” for your musical post today. You to YouTube (if you’d like) and check the video out. It is satire at it’s best, and good to listen to as well.
If you decide not to use it; I’ll post it as a Tip tomorrow.
    Cheers

  12. We must, we must have higher oil prices, that’s good for the green economy:
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/cheaper-oil-a-threat-to-green-energy-don-pittis-1.2860424
To author: Hello earth over here. People have continued to flock to pickups SUVs and minivans even as the price of gasoline rocketed. You can carbon tax the crap out of people, go ahead make them pay 1 – 5 cents more per litre; they’ll keep driving what they want, when they want – they just won’t be able to spend it elsewhere. Then again we’d be taxing polluters – yeah, especially the poor ones.
Then again government gets the revenue to do what as they wish, maybe help some of the people they just taxed into poverty, for instance. Revenues aren’t bounded to fossil fuel replacement research as they should be, so we call BS to this save the earth crap. If they at least did that then I would entertain carbon pricing of some sort. Right now that’s DOA to the voter. Isn’t pollution, the real stuff I mean, not CO2 emissions, the actual problem eh?
Glad to hear you made out like a bandit on green technology; I hope it wasn’t any of my tax dollars.
As for falling oil prices hurting green technology, isn’t there some model someone can fudge to stop that from happening?

  13. Candy Crowley is gone from CNN. Never before was the term, “put out to pasture” more appropriate.
