The Decline And Fall Of The American Empire

Veneuzuelaed:

[A]s updated today, on Black Friday, total outstanding US public debt just hit a new historic level which probably would be better associated with a red color: as of the last work day of November, total US public debt just surpassed $18 trillion for the first time, or $18,005,549,328,561.45 to be precise, of which debt held by the public rose to $12,922,681,725,432.94, an increase of $32 billion in one day.

  1. Is this public debt the money owed on ‘credit’ by actual people? Or, is this the US federal debt (not including State debt)?
In other words, is this in addition to the US 17 trillion?

  2. This is no longer the US 17 trillion. This is now the US 18 trillion. Public debt of 12.9 trillion, intragovernmental debt of 5.1 trillion.
1 trillion is one thousand billion, one billion is one thousand million, now the quadrillion is beginning to be mentioned. Look out Zimbabwe! There’s a large country trying to emulate you.

  3. Should be a day of glory for the Paul Krugmanns of the world. If debt was the problem in 2008/09, much more debt is THE solution.
Reads nuts, but seems to be public policy.

  4. But does that 18 trillion come with a free Obamba phone?
I’m all warm and fuzzy now that 5 million illegal immigrants legally get “free” health care.
Hopefully some of them actually get educated enough to steal some of those jobs away from “working” *cough Liberals and make them homeless in their place. Give em some strait up Social Justice.

  5. Not a problem.
We just have to have everyone (man, woman, and child) in the US pony up a one time tax of $60,000. The three year-old, the McDonalds worker, the single mother, the 76 year old retiree can all find $60,000.00 in their petty cash.
Or at 5% simple interest, the interest payments are only $900,000,000,000.00 per year ($900 billion/yr).

  6. now come on folks, didn’t Drudge Report the Fed had $something trillion in tax revenue the past quarter?
    “i mean that’s a big number, kinda like a brazillion” – B.O.

  7. 18 trillion in debt. government debt. the estimates for unfunded future liabilities is about 100 trillion. so 118 trillion. is there that much real wealth on the entire planet???

  8. Quote of the Day:
“America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.” — Sen. Barack Obama, March 16, 2006.
