The Tolerant Left

And their moderate Muslims!

Maher talked about how Muslim protesters had gotten Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s honorary degree at Brandeis shut down because she — a victim of forced marriage, female genital mutilation, death threats, the murder of her film making partner Theo Van Gogh, and more — had the nerve to criticize those who have hunted her from one continent to another. And here their allies are, hunting Bill Maher.

  1. I have very little sympathy for the smarmy, smug, progressive POS Maher. but what was he thinking trying to escape the Prog plantation on any topic?
Maybe now he will see just how vile his team is.

  2. Could not agree more. Maher is a “smarmy, smug, progressive POS”. It will be interesting to see if he “apologizes”. Insincere apologies are all the rage these days.

  3. Maher is the very definition of vile. This just happens to be his particular bete noire; he was supportive of the Iraq War back in 2004, too, but had some differences of opinion on how to fight it.

  4. The irony of Bill Maher, the arch leftist mouthpiece being rejected by even more radical leftists and their radical Islamist allies is delicious.
What is even more concerning is the fact of the strength that these groups feel. They successfully shut down the honouring of Hirsi Ali and feel strong enough to attempt the shut down Maher speaking on UCLA campus.
The fun is only beginning and will only become worse.

  5. Just wanted to point out that the anti-Maher protest is led by MEMSA, not to be confused with MENSA. Apart from similar acronyms, they are easy to tell apart, because in order to join MENSA, you have to be, like, you know, very smart, and for MEMSA, judging on appearances, the qualifications for membership are the exact opposite.
PS – apparently the irony that Berkeley was, back in the 60s, the home of the “free speech” movement, is lost on the current denizens of that University.

  6. Perhaps this will mark the beginning of a long road of recovery for the arrogant poseur. Experiencing how the Left responds to anyone wandering off the plantation may be the beginning of his enlightenment. Unlikely but possible. He seems to be wedded to an ugly form of nihilism.

  7. My thoughts too, on reading this post. But is it “a long road?” In my case more of an epiphany. Acceptance of humility is the only personal change required to transform oneself from an agnosti-atheistic libertarian into a conservative believer. But a humble Bill Maher? Miracles happen.

    Right you are Webley .
“the Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian Coalition”
They should be MEMSAC, which is much more fitting those nuts.

  9. When it comes to Bill Maher, his friends, associates, and fellow progs, just keep in mind The Scorpion and the Frog fable.

  10. Relax folks, Bill will not apologize nor will he ever go back on his opinions. He is fierce that way. He will not bow to bullies either on the left or right. He has a history of enraging pretty much everyone and thrives in that environment. He may be wrong on a lot of issues but his opinions are his own, right or wrong, he does not follow groupthink. He can be friends with Ann Coulter and Ariana Huffington at the same time. Besides the only reason he turned so ostentatiously to the left was in response to the temper tantrum and the manufactured outrage the right had after his post 9/11 remarks.

  11. The one positive here is Maher has turned in the right direction from those who would chain us all if not behead. If Islam loses at least his head wont be hanging from a lamp post.

  12. Oh but of course the reaction form the left is amusing although entirely predictable and Bill knew exactly what it will be when he pushed their buttons. The hysterical reaction from the right in response to his comments after 9/11 was equally amusing.
He is not a douche and unlike the 99% of leftists he is neither an idiot nor a hypocrite.
