Time was, if you had invisible friends you were either a very imaginative child or a schizophrenic. Now, you’re a public servant, and entitled to days off work when you STOP hearing those voices. This might be funny if it was not so loathsome.
From the text at the link: “If implemented, workers will be forced to choose between going to work sick or losing pay for basic necessities,” according to a PSAC press release. (regarding proposal to reduce sick days)
No, you stupid f***s!. What it means is that you are supposed to save a few dollars from every pay cheque so that you have an emergency fund that can tide you over for a while when unforeseen circumstances arise. If you live paycheque to paycheque you Are.Doing.It.Wrong.
With the salaries that unionized government employees get, there is no excuse whatsoever for them to have no savings.
So, any chance they’ll give Fridays off for PSAC members who are Catholic and wish to recite the rosary at a church in grieving for the souls of aborted babies?
As if!
They just found a creative way to ‘fess up that whatever it is they do is worthless.
Bring on the election. The planks write themselves.
How do you prove that your invisible, imaginary animal spirit guide has died.
Then again, if it is a spirit, wasn’t it already dead. Better form a committee to study this.
Thanks, gord, saved my having to comment!
Yep! to many bored members with time on their hands. Reduce staff by 50% and see if the attitude changes. It may trigger a union work stoppage which would get the other 50%, then the real “JOB” requirements can be defined & hire folks that want to work.
PSAC has asked for quite a few things on behalf of Public Servants. Most of us just roll our eyes and wish we could opt out of paying dues.
I have no idea if Aboriginal folk consider this an issue but am (still) disgusted that ‘my’ union wants taxpayers to finance their Social Justice Fund…is that why i’m paying $900 a year ???
(rhetorical question because apparently yes)
Reminded me of a old Steve Martin bit…as memory serves
A guy takes a few hostages, then makes 3 demands
1. He wants a million dollars in cash
2. He wants a get away car.
3. And he wants the letter ‘M’ stricken from the alphabet.
He says there must always be a crazy demand….
Get away car.
I think PSAC must have seen it.
Alternative tag line, “What Would We Do without Indians?”
Actually, it is time to cut the federal (and other) public sector to the bone. That will give the unions something to think about. They need a very serious attitude adjustment.
Denis, as a retired public servant I couldn’t agree more. We used to call PSAC a group of Sodomites and Marxist insurgents. Canadians who are fed up with government workers should not take it out on the government, they should be focusing their anger at PSAC. That’s where the problem lies.
Considering I self identify today as Scandinavian, I demand my employer grant me paid leave for those days that commemorate the pantheon of norse gods.
I hereby demand Wodensday, Thorsday, and Friasday off with pay.
time to put in a five year hiring freeze on all levels of civil service. We can no longer afford to look after these chosen ones.
We all know “progressives” all hear familiar spirits. Especially captain Morgan, Jim Beam & Johnny walker.
To bad the government couldn’t replace all these workers with “spirits”…..spirits don’t take time off, since they’re already dead they don’t need to be paid and don’t screw up. And I’m sure no one would notice any drop in job productivity.
They should have a mandatory ten years off to grieve, at full salary, but they can only be paid in aboriginal spirit dollars.
“Aboriginal spirit friends???”
Time for those grieving simple servants to cowboy up and do the job they were hired to do. Only exception being those classified as “Witch Doctor” of course.
Pun intended.
Actually as a member of the PSAC union the first I heard of this is through the media, I don’t recall anyone I know asking for it. As for the sick leave thing, I pissed, I saved my hours in case something goes wrong, such as breaking a leg or such. I see it as insurance and have no issues with it disappearing when I leave. Now I get punished for not abusing my sick leave all so they “balance their books” and score political points. Except that we can’t attract good and skilled workers to the Public Service because we don’t pay enough for anyone with skillsets and they are rapidly destroying any reason to do so. Which will lead to process monkeys doing more and more of the work, which will make things worse for business as risk aversion will climb. The people who abused sick leave did it because the managers would not deal with the issue, mainly because the managers do not feel that either HR or senior management will back them when things get a bit rough.
The ‘public service’ can’t hire good candidates because the government is the only employer who can legally discriminate against people they don’t want, eg: White men.
