Burger King Economics

I don’t know how long it will take “corporation hating” Americans to realize that those same corporations who they love to loathe and blame their laziness and lack of work ethic…err “problems” on are also the primary source of:
1. Jobs
2. Careers
3. Economic innovation and growth
and
4. Their retirement wealth
in this country. And the fact they have made it so inhospitable financially, politically and socially to be a corporation here that corporations would rather
1. Spend money repurchasing their shares
2. Spend money buying other companies’ shares
3. Open factories overseas
4. Bribe/lobby politicians
5. Pull a Medtronic or Burger King
than hire and invest in the US should be a wake up call to all the Obama-supporting college graduates working as barristas for $9/hour.

  1. Stay away from Ontario, though.
Alberta and Saskatchewan would be much better places to put head offices.

  2. come to saskatchewan. housing and labour are cheaper and we know how to work for a living unlike a lot of americans nowadays.

  3. I was somewhat shocked when it was announced that the merged Burger King and Timmy’s would retain the Timmy’s HQ in TO. Thought for sure they would move the new combine to Calgary. Heck even Vancouver is more hospitable than TO.

  4. This week’s Economist’s cover story and extended briefing is about the ‘criminalization of corporate America.’

  5. This anti-corporation mindset is the result of decades of Marxist brainwashing in our educational system.

  6. Trust me, those college-graduate baristas are reaping what they sowed. Back in the day, all our offsprings yearned to be actors. Our response was rather brutal: “And how do you plan to feed yourself?” was our query to each offspring in turn. Fast forward: no professional actors in our family, but several very productive professionals. And yes, there is an offspring who does audition and – occasionally – perform with the local amateur crowd. Success all around.

  7. Yes, this is a business-unfriendly administration (and why single out Obama? Isn’t he just a front man, and isn’t his team simply putting in place the long-term dreams of many Democrats?) That said, the stock buybacks are something else. Sorry Captain, but corporations repurchase their shares mostly because that puts money directly into the pockets of executives who are paid with stock options or bonuses contingent on the price of the stock. Economists and stock touts who praise this as brilliant management are simply saying what’s in their own financial interest to say.

  8. What bugs me is the repricing of their options and extending their expiry date. They do this continually for their own benefit. However I realize if they had not started their corp I would have nothing to invest in or a place to work providing me with a standard of living the envy of the world. Thanks Captain for your work, knowledge and insights.

  9. BUY LOW , Sell High. What could be simpler ? I generally buy low and sell lower. From a net Stock Market Loser.
