The World Is Being Run By Crazy People

We didn’t elect the SaskParty for stupid like this;

The owners of a farm in east-central Saskatchewan say they’re shocked they are being investigated by the province after it received a complaint about minors working in the family’s processing business.
“I was flabbergasted,” Janeen Covlin told CBC News about the investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Division (OHS). “Our whole farm vision was to include our kids.”

  1. It seems lefties want all the organic, humane, fair trade, local, free range agriculture, but with big agro style regulations.
These Farmers should just make a human rights complaint because it would seem OHS hates their culture/way of life/ traditions.
    Clearly they OHS is racist.
At least Monsanto employs adults, eh, lefties. 😉

  2. Clear evidence that it’s time to eviscerate the government workforce; or at least chop off 20%. If the foolishness continues another 20% trim wouldn’t hurt the beast.

  3. Our jails are a joke, and about the only thing you lose is the ability to cross into the US — not much of a loss these days. Kick the living crap out of these people. They’re unfirable so maybe physical violence is all that remains as a deterrant. Nothing life threatening, just the mouthful of red chiclets, HNIC style.

  4. I don’t think these kids were posing any risk to food safety. They’re a traditional Saskatchewan farm family trying to survive and make the world a better place to live in. Hats off the Covlin family. Thanks Kate!

  5. That’s the point of regulations and one of the main attractions of civil service employment.

  6. so it is against the law to teach my kids how to work hard and make something of themselves and work as a family for the common good?

  7. I agree with Max … bureaucratic parasites need to be vastly downsized in number, but until they are they need to confront genuine fear for their personal safety. That means they need to get regular punches in the nose/mouth, kicks in the @$$, kicks in the groin to male parasites, hair pulling to female parasites, and routine ‘verbal violence’ every day … they need to learn up close & personal just how much we LOATHE every cell in their useless, overpaid, underworked parasitic bodies. A bureaucratic parasite whose nose has just been adjusted to a new location beside their left ear while spewing a river of blood down their shirt will think twice before pulling any similarly stupid stunts in future.
We are all too damn nice. As Kate used to say: “Not rioting in the streets is a failed conservative strategy.”

  8. The goal of OH&S is not to make places of work “safe”.
The goal of OH&S is to make rules which no human being is capable of being able to comply with 100%, thus making each and every worker a “lawbreaker” and therefore subject to fines and the monetary enrichment of the “overseer entity”. Business owners and their employees then live in a condition of fear.
Here in Alberta, it is now OH%S law that every trade, upon entering a home for construction purposes, must FIRST walk in with a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. Not a tool kit, measuring tape, goods for the purpose for which they are there… To not comply, is a substantial fine which is attached to your vehicle registration and must be paid before you get your next year’s vehicle on the road. This fine starts at over $200.
If there would be 5 trades working in a home, would 5 sets of of said “safety devices” indeed not impose a trip hazard for said workers? How would OH&S deal with this problem?

  9. I remember as a kid my Dad hiring me to be a gopher for a carpenter that he hired to build a barn. I was quite excited at 50 cents an hour and the challenge of doing a ‘man’s job’. Each night at supper I would recount the days work and add more hours to my tally. The carpenter I worked with was a great guy who patiently taught me his trade. I doubt I was much more than 13 years old.
At the end of summer I proudly produced my hours for pay. My Dad rubbed his chin and then told me that the job was for the ‘experience’. Very disappointed to say the least. On reflection over the years I realized that what was more important about that ‘experience’ was my father’s approval that I did a good job. If he had said I had really helped him out it would have been enough.
My wife and I employed our three kids in our family business while they were in high school. It was a great experience for us as parents to see them take on responsibility and become reliable workers. Yes, I did pay them! All three complained however that our expectation of them was much higher than the other workers. I always said yes to that and then said why wouldn’t it be?

  10. Is there ANY part of our lives that the fscking politicians and rat bastard bureaucrats won’t try and control? Can you think of one? I sure as hell can’t.

  11. it’s about saving some jobs for Third World labor when it lands on this side of the border.
Never forget that traditional Canadian youth don’t count in the Liberals vision of Canada’s future.

  12. 50 years ago when I was a kid on the farm, we didn’t call it work, we called it fun.

  13. This is a lesson for those of us who think that electing a new government produces a quick change in how things are done. The bureaucracy and gov’t departments still have a HUGE inertia, and often just ride out the years when a truly conservative party is in power, only to continue on their chosen paths once a leftie party gets back in again. Or, as in this case, they just keep doing things as usual, and only suffer a little embarrassment now and again if the media happens to take note. Electing people who believe in smaller government does not change the fact that the vast majority of government workers believe in government occupations (I could not bring myself to type “government work”).

  14. “after it received a complaint about minors working in the family’s processing business.”
Start some investigative work first. And find out if it was indeed, a complaint. And turn that person’s world into hell. (I am not advocating violence but there are many devious ways to do this).
Never mind, our business was “investigated” for dumping motor oil down the drains and when I asked at the water treatment plant they didn’t know what I was talking about. The ba$tards lie.
Their not even pretending it is about safety anymore. Ask those people who had their vehicles stolen by DHS because they didn’t pass emissions. Or the library that had their seed bank closed down because it might lead to agriterrorism.

  15. Can’t fix stupid … but you can get after your government to start dismantling and disarming the bureaucracies.

  16. Yeah like Envir-Canada continues to spew junk scince in support of KYOTO, Justice cranks out Brady Campaign propaganda and the Mounties……

  17. Remember the HRC bureaucrats who couldn’t find enough internet hate so they manufactured it in order to justify their positions?
This is just like that. With no real problems to tackle they must find ways to earn their pay and pad their gold plated pensions.
It’s obvious that the progressive, bureaucratic parasite class is way too big and powerful. They are stuck on stupid.
I’d like to see the size of Government reduced by 25% – just to start – and the elimination public pensions entirely.
It would be fun to watch media heads explode at the news.

  18. I agree that I certainly didn’t vote for the SK Party to continue this nonsense. I did, however, vote for them to put a stop to it when it comes up. I suggest that any party supporters ring up their MLA and ask WTF is going on here. Enough calls and the BS will flow downhill, hopefully getting some shoes dirty in the bureaucracy.

  19. >>>>”This is just like that. With no real problems to tackle they must find ways to earn their pay and pad their gold plated pensions. ”
Ayup. Not finding enough criminals so they entrap mentally handicapped people or trump up charges (like with fake deer 20feet from the road).
Some of them must get bored from watching porn at a desk all day.

  20. As much as I dislike bureaucracy, I suppose that OHS is obligated to investigate any so-called “complaint” that it receives so long as this investigation isn’t conducted in a high-handed manner.
To my way of thinking, the real villain here is the complainant who, like too many people nowadays, has a real problem with minding his or her own business. I would suspect either a disgruntled leftist who is kept awake at night by the thought of a private, non-unionized entity actually making a go of it or a jealous neighbour. Either way, the safety and well-being of the kids has absolutely nothing to do with the complaint.
If only the complainant could be outed and made to own the consequences of his or her petty actions, it would be sweet justice.

  21. The simple solution is to declare the kids to be shareholders in the family business, not employees.
I guess I broke the rules back when I was 13 and pruning Christmas trees for a summer job. There wasn’t much in the pay to be proud of but I was given a puppy as a bonus. Oops, maybe that was an animal welfare violation, I’d better shut up.

  22. Public service unions ensure that incompetent government workers keep their jobs and get promoted. That’s the inherent flaw in the ‘democratic’ process. The idiot majority will always rule.

  23. Does this mean that the Leader Post is in trouble for hiring all those under age kids as employees for paper delivery ?

  24. 60 years of infiltration and consolidation within the ranks of the bureaucracy cannot be overcome swiftly if you wish to remain a civilized people.

  25. Well if these people did something wrong then my dad would probably be imprisoned. Farmall tractor with a little bucket and a pitch fork driving the field picking rocks by myself at 10 years old. Learned how to put in a days work for room and board and clothes as pay…and parents that gave me a loving home.

  26. Perhaps they should start with child actors or any child being used for political reasons?

  27. I think you’ve nailed it, my man. Squealers is probably a neighbour. ..quite possibly another farmer who is jealous because he percieves that this family has some kind of an advantage over him.
however, this doesn’t excuse the dickhead bureaucrats for taking the idiotic and petty actions that they did.

  28. Today (Aug.08) the story ran on CBC.Ca that the family had been cleared to let the kids work in their poultry operation. I think it’s quite obvious that some Socialist-NDP-CBC type(s) had waged a complaint against this hard working farm family.
Here’s one comment that really got to me.
    fromTheJaw
”Not really much different from the time Premier Wall said it was OK for 14 year old’s to drive in the country with their parents. It’s illegal, but it shouldn’t matter out in the toollies. I hope they at least frown upon polygamy.” (End of quote.)
    My reply was: ”MercyRiverSask
    @fromTheJaw
I`’ve seen 14 year old kids on the streets of Regina that were doing alot worst things than packaging chickens and the police overlooked it!” (End of quote.)
My comment was removed yet ”from the jaw’s” was allowed to remain in spite of the fact that I had flagged it. And yet there isn’t one person living in Regina that will attest that there are certain places in Regina where young prostitutes are allwed to do business freely.

  29. Sorry: That last line should read: ”And yet there isn’t one person living in Regina who won’t attest that there are certain places where young prostitutes are allowed to do business freely.”

  30. The Sask Party Government was asked a few years ago to re-visit the NDP “Planning and Development Act 2007” and to my knowledge they have not done so.
“If I am a termite, for me, progress means eating the building and making it fall down.”
