Malaysia Airlines jet carrying 295 people has crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border…
#Ukraine: A #Malaysian Airlines passenger jet has been "shot down". Reports say 295 onboard: https://t.co/1pQI9ToJ6u

Expect “conflicting reports”, but Sky News is also reporting it was shot down. Cross your fingers there was no Archduke aboard.
So in 2 days, two Ukrainian fighter jets have been hit by missiles. One Ukrainian transport plane destroyed by missile. Now a passenger jet.

You beat me to it Kate.
I’ll await an actual investigation. It was at 30,000 feet. The Ukraine president immediately blamed enemies for the downing.

That’s strange. My guess is that it would be a crash. Who else would shoot down an aircraft flying at 10 km up in the middle of the Ukraine in busy airspace. Seems to be nowhere near the conflict areas? I guess there are idiots.
Sorry, on reading a different article, it was near the border.
Too early to say who is responsible but, whoever did so can no longer be considered as anything other than demented cold blooded killers.
Shades of KAL 007.
Or that Iranian Airliner some American ship sank in the gulf, Donkey’s years ago.
Shit happens. On the other hand mistaking a commercial airliner at cruising altitude AND shooting it down take some specialized combination of good equipment and stupidity.
Apparently the U.S. can pinpoint missile launches from satellite images. Russia looks like it just caught another dose of international rabies. Has Putin done enough to make Russia a pariah or does he have more work? I suspect some Russian officers will be permanently transferring to Siberia.
I agree with the above criticisms of Putin et.al., but this is a war zone. That means ‘stay out’. Malaysian air line should have known better.

Can’t wait for the Nation magazine’s Stephen Cohen’s spin on this. He’s on the John Batchelor show every Tuesday night as the official Putin spimeister.
To add some humor to this tragic event, go to the CBC website and read the comments on this article. Everything from a US false flag operation to Mossad being responsible.
KaL O7… Hmm yep when Passenger planes “CAN” turn off their identifying transponder, monkey business is expected. I expect that it was China that shot down another lost plane.
BTW: I had been flying the KAL 07 flights between NYC & Korea before they strayed into Russia air space. Some strange Passengers! NBC canceled all Olympic Contracts(KAL) after KAL 07 went down.
The passenger list will be interesting!
I can’t see any upside for the Russians to deliberately shoot down a civilian airliner, unless as a false flag operation that can be convincingly blamed on Ukraine. I suppose the possibility exists that somebody in Russian air defense was alerted to possible Ukrainian actions, and pulled the trigger too quickly, which would make it a tragic mistake.
Interesting that John McCain (rino, AZ) swears that if Russia is found responsible, they will “catch hell”, but fails to say that any other party, if found responsible, will catch hell.
It is a near war zone on the ground. Security is sketchy in the entire eastern area of Ukraine.
This doesn’t excuse the military in the area, nor Malaysian Airlines, who I presume is aware of the recent events in eastern Ukraine.
I suspect people not formally attached to the Russian military, that were just too excited to see a target directly over them. The tarnish on Putin’s reputation will be difficult to cleanse.
“but fails to say that any other party, if found responsible, will catch hell”
Ultimately, if not for the Russian invasion of Ukraine, this plane would not have been shot down, regardless of who fired the missile.
We’re not talking about a precipitating event that occurred years ago here. Russia invaded earlier this year(February), skirmishes are ongoing, and the Russian “maneuvers/military exercise” which were supposedly scheduled prior to the invasion, seem to be still ongoing too.
“Gosh you’re in dire need of a sound thrashing. ”
WTF is a “sound thrashing” ? Is that when you jump up and down screaming like a girl?
FOX is reporting of 23 Americans on board, and that the area rebels haven’t been supplied with rockets of the type needed to bring down an airliner at 33,000 feet.
Rule One: Never believe anything a Russian ever tells you. Never.
Aviation authorities in several countries, including the FAA in the United States, had issued warnings not to fly over parts of Ukraine prior to Thursday’s crash. Within hours, several airlines, including Lufthansa and KLM, released statements Thursday saying they were avoiding parts of Ukrainian airspace.

1) Malaysian Airliner disappears March 2014 – all 227 lost on board
2) Malaysian Airliner shot down July 2014 – all 295 lost on board
Anyone going to fly on this Muslim’s country’s airline is stupid.
Here’s Ronald Reagan talking about past Russian targeting of civilian airliners, no mentions of “false flag” scenarios:

“and that the area rebels haven’t been supplied with rockets of the type needed to bring down an airliner at 33,000 feet”
There is always the “shot down by a jet fighter” method of shoot downs, which is mostly how planes are shot down.
It doesn’t have to have been ground to air.
Nor the President of the Ukraine.
I mentioned something similar to a friend last April. Basically, told him that if he wished to continue a conversation with a “Ukrainian” the onus is on him to insist that person identify themselves as either Ukrainian-Ukrainian or Russian-Ukrainian. The two are completely discordant with one another since the Vikings established the Dnieper as a major trade corridor between Europe and the middle east.
Archdukes are kinda thin on the ground these days.

I turned on the radio to listen to Rush Limbaugh today, just by whim. I was greeted with wall-to-wall reportage of this jet crash, all kinds of different reporters saying the same thing in 40 different ways: “some plane crashed, we don’t know why, body parts scattered for seven miles, somebody said it was shot down, we know nothing for sure.”
On a loop. With no pause for commercials, other news, nothing. Hours later, they’re still going. And they’ve still got nothing.
I’d say somebody someplace needed another O.J. Simpson slow chase and this was made to order. In fact, it could have been a custom job.
Would Putin order a jet shot down to make Obama look bad? Sure, I could believe that.
Would Obama order a jet shot down in the Ukraine just to get illegals off the front page? Normally I’d reject that kind of question out of hand. But lately? I’m less inclined to just laugh. Clinton blew up an aspirin factory to get Monica Lewinsky off the front page, and killed a guy too. Would Barry shrink from an airliner?
This is the true Legacy of Barack Obama: seeds of doubt.
On a positive note, Malaysian Air knows where this one is.
“Paging Winston, Margaret, or Ronald please pick up the Red phone.”
Remember the crash that killed the Polish President and sundry other senior govt officials…another Russian “accident”.
The Brown Clown will undoubtedly run interference for the killers…
Quite possible this is a major f-up. Just stated “confirmed” it was taken down by missile. 3 planes taken down in same way, same area in last couple of days.
WHY they were flying in this area is the obvious question and in reading around, couple of articles said it was to save fuel and thought at that altitude, all was safe.
Dumb Russian rebels screwed up? Can’t see Putin wanting to put this crap on his plate, not to give undue credit but he’s not this dumb.
Web evidence points to pro-Russia rebels in downing of MH17
There are strong, though not conclusive, indications that pro-Russian separatist rebels fired the missile that downed Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 today.
Christian Science MonitorBy Arthur Bright
Igor Girkin, a Ukrainian separatist leader also known as Strelkov, claimed responsibility on a popular Russian social-networking site for the downing of what he thought was a Ukrainian military transport plane shortly before reports that Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 had crashed near the rebel held Ukrainian city of Donetsk.
After news that emerged that a commercial airliner had been taken down and its 300 passengers and crew likely killed Mr. Girkin reportedly erased his claims from his page on VKontakte, a Russian social media site that’s similar to Facebook.

D’ohski!
The Brown Clown will buy that for a dollar.
“Igor Girkin, a Ukrainian separatist leader also known as Strelkov”
Girkin\Strelkov in NOT a Ukrainian separatist leader. He is a Russian military intelligence(GRU) officer, maybe even Spetsnaz, whose home residence is in some place called Moscow, which I believe is in Russia, not Ukraine.
http://www.wikigrain.org/?req=Igor+Strelkov+%28GRU%29
I’ve written about Strelkov on SDA before, it was in Reader’s Tips a month or so ago.
Fortunately, it’s not like there’s currently any sort of conflict between Ukraine and Russia right now.
…says anyone who relies on the mainstream media for information.

I’m only relaying what the CSM reported. I made no claims for it’s validity. Perhaps you could go to the link and add your information in the comments, since more people read Yahoo than SDA.
I’m with Phantom on this one, we know NOTHING, everybody is pointing fingers, I don’t trust any of them especially after the previous Malaysia airline incident.
1. The plane was kinda high for a small missile launcher, so something more sophisticated which if the Ukraine-EU axis should be able to track and locate. Personally I don’t think it was a missile.
2. 777, has everybody forgotten the battery issue?
3. Two Malaysia airline incidents in a few months-hmmmm. Muslim country, I’m thinking internal dissent, bomb in cargo hold.
4. Ukraine airforce or Russian airforce takedown-again should be trackable.
My money is on number 3.
Thought I’d stopped my submission in time to remove redundant words.
Guess not.
More likely 5: A reckless airline is flying its planes over dangerous areas to save money on fuel, and gets burned twice in a few months – first by China, then by either Ukraine or Russia.
If it was any other airliner, I’d be with the wait and see department, but… well, let’s just say I’m going to be extremely skeptical of the eventual ‘mechanical failure’ report.
US Intel says they have proof, as did Ukraine government. I’ll wait ’til I see it. The score on civil aircraft could be US 1 (+1?) Russia 1 (+1?) but we don’t know if the Russians have tied it up yet.
I wrote what I did at 5:18 to counter the lie which you conveyed here, your direct endorsement of the content notwithstanding.
Yahoo is a name Jonathan Swift invented for a fictitious race of people in his novel Gulliver’s Travels. The Yahoos acted like dogs, communicated in grunts and growls, and sniffed each others arses.
I was doing some research awhile back and happened to look at Yahoo Answers, which is a site set up so that Yahoos can congregate and pool their ignorance. Although some enterprising intelligent soul had written the undeniably factually correct answer to the question, 82% of the Yahoos had voted to accept a wrong, even ridiculous, answer that they liked better.
I don’t visit there anymore.
Yahoo is merely a news aggregator, the article appears in the CSM. Pay attention to details, they’re important to achieve understanding of complex issues.
Taking your questions in order.
1) The Ukrainian Interior Ministry stated that a Buk missile shot down the plane. The Buk system can reach 70,000ft plus and was designed to shoot down supersonic nuclear bombers.
2) 777’s have been around for years with no battery issues, you’re thinking of the 787 Dreamliner.
3) The pings to the satellites indicates that MH370 flew until it ran out of fuel, a bomb would have brought it down immediately. Todays flight left Amsterdam en route to Malaysia, not many Dutch terrorists and Dutch security is pretty good.
4) You’re right, if it was a fighter shoot down, there would be radar data. Fighter radars have unique signatures so the radar could be identified by ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) units. There is an exception, a stealthy fighter vectored to an intercept and using a heat seeker missile would not have to turn on its radar or make a radio transmission and would be much harder to identify.
Jawa report has a link including to the deleted tweets from said person, showing their apparent involvement.
What we know so far:
The Donetsk People’s Republic declared independence in April.
This morning, a Russian language facebook entry from a Donetsk commander (?) posted that ‘we have shot down another plane.’ That would be plane No. 3 in the past week.
My conclusion based on news reports … the passenger plane was tragically shot down in error in the belief it was a Ukrainian military transport. The people who posted the facebook entry are responsible for the tragedy.
Same goes double for Mary Baker Eddy’s cult’s news-organ as for Yahoo.
The Russians have a stealth fighter(PAK FA) that could fire an air-to-air missile(Vympel R-37) and shoot down a plane from 300km away.
I’m guessing that kind of distance doesn’t leave an ELINT signature to read.
