Tea Party Death Watch

Washington Post, 11:10am today… (now disappeared)

The question in this race is how large Cantor’s margin of victory will be. If he wins by more than 20 points, it will likely quell rumblings about his popularity back home. If Brat falls within 10 points of the seven-term congressman, it could stoke them.

Well, this is awkward.

Politico:

Dave Brat, a local economics professor, toppled House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Tuesday night in the most shocking primary defeat since Republicans took the House in 2010.
The conservative challenger’s victory halts one of the most meteoric rises in national politics, and illustrates the strong anti-incumbent fever that has taken over Cantor’s Richmond-area district. Cantor is the second House incumbent to lose this primary season — Texas GOP incumbent Ralph Hall was defeated by a tea-party backed challenger at the end of May.
Cantor’s defeat not only reorders Virginia politics, where Cantor was the highest-ranking Republican, but it completely throws the House Republican leadership into flux. Cantor, 51, was long seen as the next speaker of the House after John Boehner retires.

Cantor’s mistake.

  1. Let’s hope the trend continues.
Further, I call on any ohio SDA conservatives to vote for John boehner’s democrat opponent in the fall.

  2. Cantor is another Karl Rove RINO.
Totally a business as usual, let me collect my paycheck and pension at the taxpayer’s expense and then I’m out of here. A manager not a leader and a smug Boehner buddy.

  3. One of the few races where Mark Levin has made an endorsement, so I hear from the candidate on his show a few times during the campaign. This is great news. The Republican party is going through much the same thing that we saw in Canada when the Reform party was born. The Republicans have too many members who are indistinguishable from Democrats.

  4. The Republicans in the House & Senate better get busy and do the peoples business. Impeach! Impeach! or they are history!
This sets the stage for a third party candidate in 2016…
BTW: Susan Rice, the liar, is the protégée of M Albright (Republican SEC of State–Bush). Makes you go Hmmmm & Hmmmm

In 2008 behind closed doors Eric Cantor swore to obstruct anything Obama does: he’s sticking to that oath today

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving person. [well maybe Cuccinelli]

  6. And now for the Canadian equivalent….
Federal Progressive Conservatives: Boy, that Reform Party really bugs me.
Fortunately, Canadians will never elect a Reformer as a Prime Minister.
    Oh, wait!

  7. “This is an earthquake,” said former Minnesota congressman Vin Weber. (first cite).
Thats what they’ve said about UKIP and the French right wing ascendancy.
    Ahhhhhhhh the dense.

  8. The Washington Post had the article Kate references (at the top of this post) available until the time Mark Levin noticed that Brat was likely to win the Republican nomination against Cantor.
Many commenters in US Republican circles are saying there’s never been a House Majority Leader defeated in a primary election.
In the article, it mentioned that in March, Brat had about $40k in the bank that he had raised, while Cantor had $2 million. So, it’s exactly what Rove and his apologists should fear. Brat did this without the millions that Rove controls. By the end of this race, Brat had spent half of his $200,000. and Cantor had spent $5.5 million. Quite a difference. Perhaps Brat is simply showing his true TEA roots by running such a tight moneyed campaign? or is he saving it for the actual November election?
Note that Lindsay Graham won his nomination today, although his opposition was split by 6 candidates. It’d almost be worth agreeing amongst them to see who was the most viable non-RINO type. Some within the party have been saying they think Graham is actually a Democrat.
Hopefully this is seen as a vote of confidence for those Republicans who have been afraid of doing what they were elected to do. Think Speaker John Boehner will notice?

  9. Seems Cantor’s constituents didn’t care for his amnesty and chose ( Brat’s tag line ) Cantor’s term limit.
I wonder if the sh1theads marching behind Boehner and Cantor will catch on. They can reform, or they will be replaced.

  10. Dave Brat is articulate, principled, intelligent and he sure doesn’t need anyone to write his speeches for him. He has the character that appeals across the board. He is presidential material, in my view. c8

  11. The sense of entitlement is amazing, ain’t it? “How DARE some nobody take down a SITTING majority leader? Tea Party scum!”
Maybe he shoulda stood up. For a principle, for example.

  12. Time will tell whether or not Cantor will be a good sport and support Brat. If he waffles, or encourages voters to write in his name in the general election, Brat will likely lose.

  13. Cantor was a wheeler-dealer who’s been around too long but I hope his opponent doesn’t turn into one of these anti-immigrant a-holes like the one Kate linked to. If the TP becomes a vehicle for immigration obstruction, it deserves to die. I am optimistic I have heard great things about Brat he has libertarian associations.
That link about Cantor’s ‘mistake’ is a load of sh*t. There is no reason to believe that the eminently reasonable DREAM act led to a surge of kids at the border. If the US didn’t have a hyper-restrictive border and immigration policy DREAM would not be required. It is also not clear that Cantor was tossed in response to the DREAM act. People may have just been sick of a weasel.

  14. I don’t agree that the Dream act is “eminently reasonable” at all. I don’t agree the US has a “hyper-restrictive border’ either. If it was indeed “hyper-restrictive”, then the millions of illegal immigrants wouldn’t be crossing in the way that they are. As a matter of fact, Mr.”Just Truth”, I think that your arguments are a load of sh*t.
Enjoy your time with Wynne or Redfraud or Obama or Clinton or whomever.

  15. If it was indeed “hyper-restrictive”, then the millions of illegal immigrants wouldn’t be crossing in the way that they are.
Um. Wow. Lets think this through: why do people immigrate illegally? Answer: because immigrating legally into America is IMPOSSIBLE for unskilled labor. Draconian immigration laws = dysfunction. Can’t fight the free market.
Lets hope that Ontario pulls a Cantor in a couple days.

  16. From Dave Brat’s website:
“As our congressman, Dave Brat will oppose any efforts to allow those who entered this country illegally to cut in line, violate the rule of law and take jobs and tax dollars away from hard working Americans who have played by the rules.”
    http://davebratforcongress.com/protecting-values/
I don’t see Dave Brat turning “into one of these anti-immigrant a-holes like the one Kate linked to.”
No worries, I doubt he’s going to “turn into” anybody he wasn’t elected to be or stand for…

  17. This is intentional policy, there is no denial. Only lies by would be power brokers for cheap labour. With the accompanying kick backs from Corporate Welfare bum socialists using tax monies to sweeten profits.
The GOP is at war with its own Citizans, as are the Democrat’s.
What little difference between the party’s narrows daily.
Its only a matter of time before these folks on the Hill start bidding for Senator ships with money. Your money. Harry Reid has tied up the Senate , tight as a neutron star.
This is a victory for the Congress, but with an Imperial President what difference will it make in the long run?

  18. Understandable why the Tea Party is under intense political attack by both Demonrat government and RINO GOP – the people speak Congress and DC need a deep house cleaning

  19. The pro-constitution, less-government Tea Party representatives voted 44-11 in favour of the NDAA. (Ron Paul voted no; Michelle Bachmann did not vote.)

  20. Albright was a Clinton Sec State. Bush had Colin and Condi. Bush I Eagleburger and Baker.

  21. “The Republicans in the House & Senate better get busy and do the peoples business. Impeach! Impeach! or they are history!” Said Obama, immediately followed by “Whatever you do, don’t throw me in that brier patch!”

  22. I blame the Chamber of Commerce for claiming to have overridden the electorate and bought the Republican Party.

  23. just truth….. why should anyone anywhere have the right to come to America in defiance of the countries immigration laws. should they have the right to camp in your backyard and eat your food and spend your money. you need to wake up about what is happening in America regarding illegal immigration.

  24. Natural Libtard label there? Just Truth?
    Untruth in advertising?
So a nation that establishes a working civil society(USA), that allows free citizens to create and gain wealth, that they could not do in a tribal (non civilized) society.
Cannot stop opportunists and bandits from invading their borders and looting the rewards of civilization?
The border situation is as old as nation states, either you guard your citizens and their property or the state falls.
What part of this truth does a “progressive” not understand?
The obvious truth is the barbarians are flooding over the border, intent on self enrichment.
Successful theft from the producing people, will ensure much less production.
The barbarians already infest congress and are actively wheeling and dealing with the petty warlords rising up across the nation.
    Enjoy the decline.

  25. Interestingly enough, there is no mention of this at our State Broadcaster.

  26. A ray of light has peeked over the horizon.
Me thinks the ‘Hope and Change voter’ is starting to realize it’s actual ‘Hoax and Chains’.

  27. Dave Brat will oppose any efforts to allow those who entered this country illegally to cut in line
    THERE IS NO LINE.
why should anyone anywhere have the right to come to America in defiance of the countries immigration laws.
Because immigration is a right. America is not your private club.
The pro-constitution, less-government Tea Party representatives voted 44-11 in favour of the NDAA. (Ron Paul voted no; Michelle Bachmann did not vote.)
That is one of the reason I consider the TP a partial failure so far. Only the real libertarian TPers-Massie, Rand, Amash-have been good. I hope Brat is one of them.

  28. I was mistaken, she was not Bush’s (HW) Albright was the Democrat that forgot she had Jewish ancestry, until she had left the State Dept of Sick Willie.
Academic: As a Research Professor of International Affairs and Director of Women in Foreign Service Program at “Georgetown” University’s School of Foreign Service
Carter Administration: From 1978-1981, Secretary Albright was a staff member on the National Security Council, as well as a White House staff member, where she was responsible for foreign policy legislation. From 1976-1978, she served as Chief Legislative Assistant to Senator Edmund S. Muskie.
The connection to Georgetown is interesting, they all seem to come out of the same rat hole…

  29. Because immigration is a right
    ********************
    Legal immigration fool.
Plus no country “must” take you.
Where do you fools keep coming up with these so called rights?

  30. Slap Shot “The connection to Georgetown is interesting, they all seem to come out of the same rat hole…”
    Jesuits! Commies one and all.

  31. Just Truth is the troll formerly known as LibertariansAreSmarter.
“I hope his opponent doesn’t turn into one of these anti-immigrant a-holes”
Nice, conflating legal immigration with the amnesty of illegals.
It should be noted that America is in economic contraction right now(recession), real unemployment being somewhere around 12+%, with minimum wage being another Leftist issue.
A moratorium on all immigration would be in order until the economy recovers, bringing new immigrants into a receding economy being a simply irresponsible and dogmatic political position.

  32. Immigration isn’t “a right”. It’s a governmental construct, a law created by man, and used to help a country (a creation of people) in one way or another.
    Not, a “right”.
Folks seeking a better life, have a choice of about 200 countries to choose from and pursue this. The USA is one of a handful that allow immigration easily. It’s become clear that those arriving by cutting in front of the line are simply doing so in order to gain an economic benefit, something paid for by others, and if those paying for these benefits choose to stop paying for them, the choice remains that those that have immigrated can un immigrate themselves back to wherever the hell they came from, or get in the lineup.
But amnesty is a sign of weak political will to do the right thing, that it’s a nation of laws written by man in order to secure themselves, yet have been overwhelmed by those not wanting to play by the rules.

  33. A moratorium on all immigration would be in order until the economy recovers, bringing new immigrants into a receding economy being a simply irresponsible and dogmatic political position.
ITT, economic illiteracy. I love being the smartest one here by far.
There has never been an immigration-driven increase in unemployment. Immigration brings about more investment which brings about more jobs. For further references, see ‘Canada’ and ‘Singapore’.
Immigration isn’t “a right”. It’s a governmental construct, a law created by man, and used to help a country (a creation of people) in one way or another.
It’s freedom of movement and association, and that’s a right. Period. End of story.

  34. “Immigration brings about more investment which brings about more jobs.”
Yeah right. Those Wetbacks pouring into the U.S. who needed Eric Cantor’s amnesty program are all secret investors.
Sure. They’re disguised as manual laborers but in your reality they’re smuggling in sacks of pesos to invest in the U.S. economy.
Yup. I’ve got to hand it to you, I wasn’t smart enough to think of that.
Tell me again why they’re sneaking into the U.S. to invest?
They can’t get their brokers to invest in the U.S. from their home countries, eh?

  35. “It’s freedom of movement and association, and that’s a right. Period. End of story.”
Nobody has “a right” to my space. Those illegally crossing a border, don’t have “a right” to anyone else’s space. That’s idiotic.
Your statist view is blinding you. You can do better.

  36. Only in You’re mind. As I said, it’s funny how you fools finds rights that were never there.

  37. “Because immigration is a right. America is not your private club.”
Unfounded declarations, by you, do not make it so.
Actually it is not a right….it is only a right for those naturally born, on American soil with at least one majority aged parent a US citizen. To immigrants it is a privilege granted after application and vetting.
AMERICA IS THE PRIVATE CLUB OF AMERICAN CITIZENS.
