31 Replies to ““Breaking” News: CNN is Broken”

  1. Well it IS ever so good to see the pot giving the kettle some helpful constructive criticism…

  2. They need a photoshopped pic of Leonardo Decaprio swimming around the bow to complete their story.

  3. Just showing us the depths they can go to cover a story!
    OR
This is how low their ratings have sunk.

  4. …”and after the break…we’ll have follow-up to the story we broke exclusively 4 days ago from Ford’s theatre!”

  5. Here is another view on it.
It is interesting to note that it also describes the news reporting in The Calgary Herald.
There is so very much of old news that you may begin to wonder if the world stopped spinning.

  6. Warn us about Huff and Puff links, my puter now needs a thorough de-licing from the infestation from that site.
A site where the likes of MadDog are worshipped…..

  7. On another note, a week ago, Glowbull BC had a story at #2, regarding ‘the zombie apocalypse’, and which city you would be the safest in……couldn’t believe they pass this shite off as ‘news’.
Thanks Randene Neill, another new low for you.
WHere’s Tony Parsons and Cameron Bell?

  8. I Iike the 33 degrees in Texas on the ticker below. In April 🙂 By the way is this going to be the next Summerless Summer of 1816 where it doesn’t come?

  9. Excellent comment from the Washington Post article:
“Kudos to CNN’s Don Lemon for creating endless variations of the question “what happened?”, and to
his Panel Of Experts for finding myriad ways to say “we don’t know.”
CNN – All plane, all the time. Actually they may have something there, as now I tune in every once in a while for 10 seconds to be sure they are still on the case.

  10. You want to see true amateurs at work you should watch the Victoria news casts. 10 minutes in and they’re on cat stuck in a tree stories and it’s time to turn it off. They steal stories from local blogs all the time.

  11. I disagree with the other commenters. This would be breaking news, to those who don’t know history. CNN appears to accept that their audience is largely uninformed. If that is the case, then “news” like this is perfect for them because it costs a lot less for their reporters.

  12. it’s simply accepted practice to dumb everything down for the great unwashed.
i received a flyer from my local conservative mp taking a one-question survey… “who’s on the right track to help keep children safe from sexual predators?”
you then pick a political party.
i get these every so often. it’s obviously not about the facile question… it’s to target people who check off conservative on the questionaire. if you take the time to fill this out and post it back, you’re obviously a sympathetic conservative.
i resent being manipulated, but it seems all the players use the same script. because, apparently, it works for them.
    the system is broken.
here’s a thought… the party who introduced legislation confiscating pensions from any mp who was arrested and convicted of any crime would sweep the next election.
never happen, though. they’re not gonna do anything that impacts their six years to a gold-plated pension scam.

  13. “If that is the case, then ‘news’ like this is perfect for them because it costs a lot less for their reporters.”
You made me think of CBC for a moment: that old trick they have of reporting on something like the Pistorius trial South Africa from their London bureau.
As if that meant they were somehow “closer to” or even “on the scene” of events.

  14. I remember last year some news outlet did a little test with the younger public. Many did not know the Titanic was real, they actually believed the Titanic was just a movie. So really, the CNN is connecting with their audience……..a really really ignorant one at that.
Imagine the possibilities. So many stories that could be dragged back to the forefront.

  15. Very unfair to CNN.
They’re teaching history the modern RELEVANT way.
Nice thread title there Rob demonstrating that you are learning well at the feet of Mistress Kate.
Viz., CNN is broken. Very good indeed.

  16. Yes, bud, all too often, the kitty/puppy story is either 3 or 4 on the list. I’m sure it is what htey are taught at BCIT, as the amateurs at this station are still green. Doesn’t matter if its CHEK or A/CTV2, both stations are terrible. I dont know who is worse, Skye Ryan or the gal with weird eyes. Astrid is easy on the eyes, so I won’t say nothing more about her, weather is easy.
Yes, our local stations are embarassing, from Gordie Tupper (majority owner of Chek) to the A channel bunch (HudsonMack thankfully is gone, another wet noodle newsreader).
It isn’t news, its propaganda, from the “Provincial Government Bad” story (a sure thing in a gubmint worker city), to local government stupid (same bunch elects them too), to “I’m a loser so I will complain to the media” story, then the puppy/kitty story.
Same script, different day, ugh. Less than 5 minutes, and I’m back to the hockey/baseball game, or working some OT, instead of throwing a brick through the tube.

  17. A CNN newscaster breathlessly announced “Our highly sophisticated investigative journalism team has analysed video footage from a deep sea probe of the Titanic. AMAZINGLY AFTER 102 YEARS, THE SWIMMING POOL ON THE TITANIC IS STILL FULL!!!!”

  18. CNN’s greatest sin is to latch onto one story and cover it 24/7 for weeks on end, discussing and analyzing it to a preposterous degree. They did when Michael Jackson died. They’re doing it now with the Malayasian airliner.

  19. I agree Dan…however I will share with you the exact response that I received from our dear Kate many years ago when I expressed a similar concern over a link to Kinsella:
    “mouse-over is your friend”
    Hope that helps.

  20. When I went to school we would have written the headline as “Titanic SANK 102 years ago, tonight”. Guess that’s why I don’t work for CNN.

  21. CNN is merely riding the missing plane to higher ratings, Adler was talking about it yesterday, it’s a ploy that using the “Breaking” is working, but how long they have Wolf cry the sky is falling remains to be seen. (I love mixing metaphors.)

  22. Cut CNN some slack! They are preoccupied with their
own sinking ship and are too busy rearranging the
    deck chairs.
