I must protest the insensitivity of your post “What is the Opposite of Diversity?”. First, the very title asked me imagine the evil that is the opposite of diversity. How could you? Then, without warning, I encountered the word “m*ndatory”? This is no mere micro-aggression. Hie thee to the nearest re-education camp.
I and the rest of my class of highly-evolved, supremely empathic human beings will thank you if, in future, you would avoid the use of that scary word. “Person-datory” would be acceptable, if used sparingly. But even so, its use must be prefaced by a warning that such a brutal concept of being compelled to do something cannot apply to us, and only applies to the Neanderthals among you. The student senate? Nope. I’d say they sound like an adult senate to me. Making decisions that give them more control over their lesser fellows and of course,some of them will have to screen these course syllabi with the prof to make sure they understan just what their fellow facists want.Sounds like a whole new government department about to spring up. I think a trigger warning needs to be added to trigger warning itself. First, a trigger is on a gun, probably a scary black gun and now I’m distressed. Second, Trigger was a horse that was exploited by humans for profit. Just making me think of the horrors that poor animal had to go through at the hands of men (need I add that they were white men?) also makes me distressed.
I’d go have a drink but gaia was raped in the growing of the corn needed for bourbon – and now I’m on the brink of a complete mental collapse. Which, come to think of it, makes me the ideal person for the student senate at UCSB.
This is the sort of horse shit that occurs in a society when food and shelter are no longer an issue for anyone. We need a famine … I have heard Kate say it and I couldn’t agree more.
That would ‘trigger’ some honest human emotions …. the reality emotions that tell your ass when it’s in a sling.

Jay and the Phantom* nailed it. Sensible professors should issue trigger warnings on the first day of clases. “In this class I will introduce new and uncomfortable perspectives. Students will speak plainly and and bluntly. If you find any of that traumatic, this is probably not the course for you.” In one sentence you have: 1, met your legal requirement for the year and 2, gotten rid of all the ticking time bombs of outrage and litigation.
