  1. Visions from fairytales….so over-the-top as to be dreamlike.
    The photography is exquisite.
    I’m blown away.

  2. I thought for a minute that Kate was pulling our leg, and they were actually pix of Detroit.

  3. Yes, it is a beautiful city, where the tourists go.
Church of the Spilled Blood is as beautiful inside as it is outside.
The grove of trees at the point of Peter and Paul Fortress island is where they found the mass grave of 80 Bolshevik victims in 2010. We saw them digging there, but did not know at the time what they were looking for. The cathedral in the center of the photo is where the Tsars and Tsarinas are buried.
The building behind the Alexander Column is the Imperial General Staff headquarters.
The Peterhof has beautiful large gardens with gravity fountains.

  4. Beautiful. We visited St. Petersburg and it is truly awe inspiring. We were fortunate to have a very knowledgeable guide who was also blessed with a typical Russian sense of humour. When pointing out the former KGB headquarters she said “people say that you could see Siberia from the basement”

  5. This somewhat why we keep poets around….spell binding…
To the uninformed St. Petersburg was renamed Leningrad by the Bolsheviks and reverted to St. Petersburg after the USSR imploded.
During the long WW2 siege about a million starved and defenders went to the front lines at times by streetcar….

  6. Absolutely stunning!! I’m a fan of Northern climes and have put a trip to St. Petersburg on my bucket list. May war never visit this part of Russia.

  7. What I like perhaps most about Russia are the crosses – the golden crosses, everywhere.

  8. STUNNING fotos.
Clive mentioned his knowing light very well.
    Migawd yes.
However, I did wonder how much of that light is augmented in post production.
Which is not at all meant to detract from his achievement.
    HDR?

  9. It’s a shame that a nation with such rich history of religious prominence would forsake its eternal salvation. But godless it is. Carry on…..
