  1. Joni should have no problem in Washington, as Harry and his friends are already castrated.

  2. Isn’t that the standard campaign promise of every political hopeful ? Always the first promise dropped into the garbage can when they settle into office ? Always sounds good but never seems to happen.

  3. Looks like pork barrel politics is going to trim some bacon fat…
Should be fun, the Senate could probably use a SWINE HERDER for all the trough wallowing that goes on there.
Offal-ly kind, but pass the butcher knife; as the American voter may have a few choice cuts to make.

  4. That’s why you keep sending new ones. The longer you leave one settled in office they better they get at fleecing the taxpayer, and they build up their pension entitlement while they are there.

  5. She would be more believable if she didn’t have the perfectly coiffed hair.

  6. Yeah well, we saw what happened last time a pretty white woman with common sense tried to run for political office. The American people laughed at Sara Palin and mocked her, made fun of her handicapped son, derided a hockey mom and a war hero – and instead voted for a black poltroon and a white drunk. Twice.
I think the States worth living in should secede from those that aren’t.

  7. The perfect commercial for Iowa.
Iowa has three million people and twenty million pigs. California has thirty-eight million people, five million of whom live in Los Angeles and San Francisco (and many more of whom live near those). That’s because Iowa got first choice.

  8. Lovely sentiment, great PR, but wasted on trying to change a political system which is so corrupt that nothing short of an uprising will change it for the benefit of the majority.
Partisan politics is a con, parties are a scam, there is no left or right, Dem or GOP – all there is left is crony socialism and its resultant authoritarian bureaucratic tyranny against whats left of responsible constitutional resistance – the US constitutionally constrained governing system is broke, the new militant corrupt infrastructure is entrenched and ready for war (literally) with anyone who tries to change the status quo.

  9. Any woman with the ability to castrate piglets WOULD GET MY VOTE …. twice if needed!

  10. “Partisan politics is a con, parties are a scam, there is no left or right, Dem or GOP – all there is left is crony socialism and its resultant authoritarian bureaucratic tyranny….”
    Holy sh*t, Occam.
I usually get the impression from regulars here that no one else had figured out that basic truth of modern western democracies. Conservatism has some great fundamentals, but good luck finding ANY politician with the balls to openly promote it, let alone practice it. Despite her words, she is only doing what the vast majority of politicians do….fighting for HER place at the trough.
The parties have wrestled so much power from the people that all we have left is the illusion of choice where, every 4 years or so, we lowly serfs get to choose which royal family gets to plunder us next.

  11. You know, on even days I think that Occam @ 8:13 and Canadian Observer @ 9:32 are right. On odd days I have hope that people like Joni actually make a difference.
Canadian example. The Reform Party, then Cdn Alliance, and finally the Conservative Party of Canada gave many of us so much hope, and now it appears that the Joe Clarke socialist progressives have taken over. No moves on Bill C-68, High River, HRCs, etc are just a few examples. Look at the dirtbags that run Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta. Other examples abound abundantly in our city governments, school boards, and university leadership.

  12. Our countries keep drifting to the left. “Rapidly when liberals in power and slowly when conservatives are in power”.
    Sowell.

“Our countries keep drifting to the left”
It’s simply the decay of success in the life cycle of prosperity.
The Ancient Greeks & Roman’s also saw success, expansion, multiculturalism, military overreach, expanding entitlement culture including welfare, hedonism, subsequent bankruptcy, and finally invasion.

  14. A CPC MP who shall remain unnamed asked me for financial support. I replied that I have three things to offer. My vote, my money and my view on how this country should be run. I then said that I have yet to meet a politician who wants more than just the first two, my vote and my money. I got no reply and haven’t heard from him since.

  15. Ken Kulak – “Canadian example. The Reform Party, then Cdn Alliance, and finally the Conservative Party of Canada gave many of us so much hope, and now it appears that the Joe Clarke socialist progressives have taken over.”
Yup – and I was right in the middle of it, hauling water for these “democratic” parties watching the incremental transformation of a populist grass roots democratic reform movement get co-opted by professional politicians, political fixers and rent seekers and eventually turn into another top down oligarchic political cabal – with a taste for the forbidden fruit of centralized power, prestige, and entitled sinecure – they have no will to do what we sent them to Ottawa to do – put the evils of big, intrusive, ravenous, belligerent government back in Pandora’s box ( with a true national constitutional congress). But, being comfortable with the spoils of bloated big government decadence they are now more concerned with riding the gravy train than stopping it – like all the other partisan racketeering Ottawa parties who dote on increasingly insular governance.
George Carlin said it best, and it took me a long time and a lot of personal experience to understand but – “government is a big club, and you ain’t in it”, you pay dues, but you are not allowed inside – all you get to do is stare at the elite gobbling up dinner you paid for through the restaurant window.
Edified change, democracy, rights, justice – all must come from a broad based organic movement in the electorate – a unified movement the system FEARS double crossing – but this is unlikely because they keep us squabbling between ourselves in petty partisan tribes. Disunity of interest in the electorate id the tyrants playground. When we see bad ideas and bad governing as the enemy and not petty partisan disinfo then you may see responsive well mannered governance again – but don’t wait for it to happen because the electorate is corrupted by a daily tsunami of disinfo or by the same entitlement lust as the government.
Until there is a cathartic soul-searching moment in the collective Canadian population where ethics, principle and lot freedom is valued above the reflex to get something free by whining to some politician for it, This nation will continue to be run by self-serving people and systems unworthy of our trust or taxes.

  16. Sarah Palin today on Facebook:
What a day for Iowa patriots! Very proud to stand with Joni Ernst because she will be a great commonsense conservative in the U.S. Senate! Her love of country, experience, and solid character – virtues that cross party lines and political ideology – bring real hope to a diverse populace. Even Jimmy Fallon said to vote her in! We heard the news that her likely Democrat opponent took a page from the Obama playbook and disparaged hard working Iowans in a closed-door fundraiser. Liberal Congressman Bruce Braley referred to U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley as “just a farmer from Iowa.” Holy! As an admirer of the hardest workers in America, toiling to feed the world, I have to ask what’s next from a man who would disparage the work ethic and know-how of a farmer? Is insulting the other half of Iowa by slamming them for “bitterly clinging to their guns and religion” up next? I’d stay away from the Iowa State Fair this year if I were you, Mr. Braley. The good productive “just farmers from Iowa” and “bitter clingers” we’ve shared fried butter-on-a-stick with there may have a bone or two to pick.
    and here on Breitbart:

*agree with some above, it’s getting difficult to see real candidates worth supporting from a small government / more freedom point of view that aren’t yet tainted by Big Government.

  17. I too was in the thick of things with Reform. I bought a membership with their first outreach in my riding. I then was secretary of the riding assoc. for over 10 years. I went to the convention in Edmonton when Stephen Harper became leader but by then we had deteriorated into the CRAP . . . Sorry, the Canadian Alliance.
One thing about Reform, it sure was a lot of work to develop policies. First we had to submit policy initiatives at the riding level. Then similar policies were combined with the permission of the individual ridings involved. Then we had to decide, within our ridings, how we would vote at convention. We then attended the convention, debated each policy and voted yeah or nay.
It took a lot of individual time/dedication to stay involved but it did have it’s rewards. Most people would not want to go through this process every 2 years but if they did, they would be way more informed as voters and we would be better governed.
