Tonight we watch in-studio footage of Bob Marley (his father was a white British ex-naval officer, I just found out) and The Wailers, as they perform a Marley song that was a hit for Johnny Nash in 1967: Here’s Stir It Up.
The comments thread is open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

  1. From the Washington Examiner:
“A student at Swarthmore College thinks that in order to ensure that students are ‘hearing a diversity of opinion,’ the institution should ‘not be tolerating’ the ‘conservative views’ of a prominent alumnus.
“The student made the comment in reference to a recent discussion between two Princeton professors, Robert George and Cornel West.
“‘The whole idea is that at a liberal arts college, we need to be hearing a diversity of opinion,’ the campus newspaper quotes Erin Ching, who graduates in 2016, as saying. ‘I don’t think we should be tolerating [George’s] conservative views because that dominant culture embeds these deep inequalities in our society.'”

  2. I’d like to read of some normal type questions being put to folks in other countries. Given those other countries scientific record.
Like for instance: Is dihydrogen monoxide poisoning our rivers? … and “Where do your rights come from” Or, “Is Obama a cactus”? for example… Because just like the old Rick Mercer Report where he traveled to the USA and asked mildly funny questions about minor french speaking politicians from Quebec and expected real answers, I think people could make a hay day of who pays for those folks meal tickets in Quebec. For example.

  3. It’d make for more entertainment if the pollsters would preface they’re actual intended questions that are set to make mockery of said students by asking them what type of high school they attended and in which state, and then asking which university they attended. The current idiot in chief exempted of course, having attended the most expensive high school (tuition, at the time) and most prestigious of universities, including Harvard.
Because it doesn’t do much good to me if I can’t point a finger at unionized teachers that don’t represent student’s best interests.

  4. Venezuela’s socialist good times continue, but still not much news about the country with the highest rate of gun murders, funny that…

  5. While we’re on the subject of defence matters, see this (linked at Instapundit):

So, as I understand it, inter alia:
    – Iran is attempting to establish a naval presence in the Atlantic;
    – Iran is in possession of Russian-made missile launcher systems that could be used to launch a nuclear or EMP attack on the eastern one-third of North America;
    – A Bill Clinton-era CIA Director is advocating for electronic hardening of coastal electrical systems; and
    – Keystone XL is a tough decision for Mr. Obama.
Have I got that right? Even if this is even partly true, why take the risk? Choke ’em now: let’s have a tussle over oil — shut the ME down.
I’d be curious to hear Mr. Leslie’s thoughts on this…

  6. Bob Marley (his father was a white British ex-naval officer- I still enjoy his music.
He could have been a Super, Super Star,
but he injured his big toe in a backdoor soccer game and refused to treat it when it became infected.
Over the next few months the infection turned into cancer throughout his body. Horrible death.
His British manager didn’t have the balls to drag him into a free health clinic..

  7. Mike I think many Fire Insurance companies will start asking,
    do you have,
    Gas Stove,
    Fireplace,
    Kerosene Heater,
    Wood Stove,
or a Tesla in the Garage?

“Like Mr. Chrétien, Mr. Johnston is a prominent Liberal who once served in federal cabinet under former prime minister Pierre Trudeau. And like Mr. Chrétien, he acted for Heenan as counsel, and as a “rainmaker,” introducing clients to various governments around the world.
Mr. Johnston had great hopes for the Paris operation, he said in an interview this week. The business case seemed solid: Mr. Chrétien and Mr. Bouchard would lobby governments in francophone Africa and bring opportunities and deals to Heenan clients in the mining and energy sectors. Lawyers in Paris would prepare and execute any contracts.”

“UPDATE: The fire was likely caused by the extra battery packs mounted in the trunk and used for the extra caution lights according to Nic, a commenter who is also a safety worker at Daytona:
It was due to the strobe lights batteries in the trunk… just going off what I saw inside the trunk while it was on fire. We had to disconnect the regular battery, located in the trunk as well on these cars but on the drivers side, it had no burn marks.”

There may be a lot more to this story, or not.
The CBC missed it completely. The G&M had one small item in their business section.
Meanwhile the KHS/Airbus/Mulroney fiasco was covered non-stop by the CBC and others. The CBC spent millions pursuing that story. I think they did 9 “Fifth Estate” shows along with a few thousand articles. One CBC personality even wrote a book about it.

  11. Insane:
“A homeowner who made a website showing CCTV of thieves in his house has been threatened with jail unless he takes it down – because he didn’t have the burglars’ consent. Robert Waters filmed criminals in his Dublin home and put the footage online to warn others, only to receive an email last week ordering him to remove the CCTV images.
“The dad-of-three had captured masked thieves climbing over the wall of his house before breaking in through a kitchen window and stealing jewellery and his children’s piggy banks. But since creating the site, Mr Waters has been threatened with a 100,000 Euro fine or a jail term – because of ‘data protection’.”

  12. Headline at the Globe & Mail: “U.S. lawyer warns Canada’s proposed electoral reform will deprive someone of voting rights”

A participant in the bruising American battle over voting rights warns that Canada is treading on dangerous ground with its proposed electoral reforms. One of the lawyers who helped strike down the voter ID law in Pennsylvania last month says legislation tabled by the Harper government will inevitably wind up depriving some people of their voting rights.

That’s why any change to voting requirements should be made with the strictest care, in the spirit of achieving more accurate election results, said Witold Walczak, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union for Pennsylvania.

Laurentian journalism at its finest: Find someone no one’s ever heard of who disagrees with the Conservative position on an issue, and then use the person’s opinion as the basis for a “news report”.
Ask yourself: It that reporting the news, or making up “news”?

  14. The Glocalization of the Tea Party Movement:
    by Tony Lee (Breitbart.com)
Tea Party movements across the pond have different flavors, but are ultimately a vehicle for the continent’s working class, whose interests are often ignored and dismissed for those of the Brussels elite and the broader global superclass.
And just like how Europeans gained inspiration from Ronald Reagan and embraced democracy and limited government, the continent is again looking to America to take back their countries from the global political establishment. The European Tea Party is on the march, and it has put “the Party of Davos” on alert.

  15. But, but, BUTTS just ain’t telling the truth.
On CTV’s QP today, Gerald Butts was pimping young Trudeau to Fife and Canadians. Mr. Butts is one of Justins top advisors, along with Justin’s brother Sasha and best friend Omar, but that is a whole other story.
The interview starts at about the 12:30 mark.
    http://www.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=286888
Mr. Butts says this about his young stallion’s reaction to the Senate expense problems; ” He just didn’t say that he was going to have his caucus disclose its expenses once elected. He did so as soon he made the announcement “.
That is not even close to the truth.
Mr. Butts is either a big fat juicy liar, misinformed, or just in over his head.
As of five minutes ago (260 days after JT’s announcement), the Liberal “proactive disclosure” is still just an announcement.
JT has 2 flights listed , Wascana Ralph has a return trip and a meal, some have nothing listed. I could be wrong, maybe they are being extremely frugal.
Fife did not challenge his comment, colour me shocked.
BTW, Marc Garneau and others are defending the general’s moving expenses at the Liberal website. Their argument is that it was approved , so it should not be questioned, please send us money to fight the evil Harple gang.
    Hmmm, weren’t Duffy’s expenses approved?
Were the adscam payouts not also approved ???

  16. It’s possible that Obama would be willing to let himself be “humiliated” by Iran if if would mean the humiliation of the United States, and the end of America’s assumed position as the “world’s policeman”. However that would be more like a final nail in the coffin than a sea change, since in recent decades American politicians have been quite willing to demonstrate their incompetence in many fields, just like everyone else.
