Y2Kyoto: Caught In The Icy Grip Of Irony

At Climate Audit, a Ship of Fools timeline

A passenger, who was standing near Turney when Mortimer called the leader from the ship’s VHF radio, recalled their conversation: “Chris, [captain] Igor has just said we need to expedite people back from the islands so we can get out of here,” said Mortimer.
Turney, standing on the ice edge, repeated the message to confirm he had heard right.
“Affirmative,” said Mortimer.
“If I take this lot out, how long can we stay?” Turney said.
Mortimer repeated that everybody needed to get back to the ship.
The passenger was stunned by the conversation, even more so when, a few minutes later, Turney loaded an Argo with six passengers and drove off towards the Islands.

  1. Yes! Finally some reporting. I think people need to shame the BBC and Guardian reporters who were embedded into doing their jobs. They should have already been fired for being in a worldwide news story and refusing to report on it.

  2. But these are supposed to be world rulers in waiting
who are going to bring all of us to an undreamt of
Utopia given half a chance, and they could not even
organize something as critical as their own survival?

  3. Turney was probably sure the Captain was wrong. After all, melting was what it was all about and being trapped in ice was not on the agenda. Like many scientists, Turney had tunnel vision and was brainwashed by his own ideals. He may get to question them when the rescue bills start to come in.

  4. It would appear :ship of fools” would certainly cover most of the passengers.
I have not heard, is the ship still locked in the ice, and what of the Captain?

  5. Turney’s brain and the Robot guarding the escape route out to freedom in Logan’s Run are the same but instead of:
    “There is NO SANCTUARY”
    It’s:
    “There is NO ICE”

  6. The funny part Ken is that the ship sans fools made it back to civilization before the rescuing icebreaker carrying aforementioned fools.
