An Engineer, A Geologist, and Some Humourless Prick Walk Into A Bar…

Rig Pigs – they don’t make ’em like they used to. (via email)

APEGA, as you probably know, is the association overseeing the professional and ethical conduct of engineers and geoscientists in Alberta.
Attached is a portion of the December issue of the monthly PEG magazine dealing with a disciplinary issue from 2012. Apparently, APEGA is now also the arbiter of politically correct jokes as this member has been required, by a disciplinary committee ruling, to write an open letter to all 70,000 members of APEGA apologizing for an off-colour joke he told in a van full of oilfield workers.
A tasteless joke.
In a van full of oilfield workers.
In the field.
Shocking.
APEGA – doing the jobs the human rights committees won’t even touch anymore.

  1. I was thinking exactly that Jamie.
Perhaps my inner Walter Mitty is speaking here but I really don’t think I’d write that grovelling Maoist letter.
At the very most I might ask who the complainer was and offer him a direct oral apology with a what-a-loser-you-are undertone.
But why to 70,000 total strangers who couldn’t possibly have been offended.
Grovelers need to understand how very very “gay” these twits are, how easily they fold.

  2. Im a Level II welding Inspector since 1991 -…Welding Engineering Technologist SAIT ’86, Journeyman welder since ’80 and to be honest, don’t give a rats ass about being politically correct. Damned glad i do not belong to ASSET. They don’t pay my excellent wages or are capable for providing me with anything I can’t provide myself through sufficient research or personal initiative nor are they a pre-requisite to obtaining employment.
All these organizations are about collectiveness and as such prescribing to their set of rules for this and that. Ethics and professional conduct is fine. But outside of that – they got squat to say.
    Cheers.. from Calgary
