“We don’t want anyone learning from the past, someone might be offended”
– modern educators
“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
– George Santyana
religion was just an additional excuse to justify the murders ..
didn’t stop the brits pre rome or after ..
or anyone else
the romans didn’t like the idea of druid human sacrifice..
killing was OK tho..
A school teacher outlaws a public speaking contest speech based on advocating the Golden Rule of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
The Golden Rule is a fundamental moral principle of Western Civilization.
C.S. Lewis after a survey of world religions, found the only religion that did not have a version of the Golden Rule was Islam.
So followers of Islam would be the be the only ones that might be offended.
Maybe, the teacher was afraid of a critical phone call from the White House?
While it is true that wars have been started in the cause of religion, history shows that the most frequent cause of war is not, and the most deadly conflicts eg, the Mongol conquests, Taiping Uprising, WW1 and WW2 are not wars of religion. In fact, the current polemic on religious wars is a moral equivalence set up to protect the adherents of the religion of peas for responsibility for their own actions.
But somehow, I doubt that was the reason for taking away the award. The speech contained allegations that the 9/11 attack was religiously motivated. That was probably not a factor in the decision (sarc).
Come on, the kid was going to mention 9/11 and Islam. America is a nation with deep respect for Islam and Muslims. Right now America is helping AlQ kill Christians in Syria, working behind the scenes to bring back the MoBros in Egypt and most importantly, seeking a way to please Irans Shite reps of the 12th Imam. Be quite and think halal.
“The concern was over the topic of mass murders,” Arja said. “Because these are 4th and 5th graders.”
They don’t watch cop shows? They don’t watch the news? Who always puts the retards in charge?
The kid had a fair opinion which as rroe, above, says could be doubtful. Religion was an element in many wars but wasn’t the cause of all that many.
The first Lesson should have been Freedom Of Speech.
I’d bet that if his speech were about how to unroll a condom on a banana, he wouldn’t have had any trouble.
Bull. A little kid comes up with an attack on religion? Sure it’s a common theme in certain circles to attack the “right wing Christians”, but not even the nerds would be going around discussing this on their own. It all stinks.
What an odd story – but so typical of the media’s penchant for not reporting any substantive details (i.e., the actual contents of the speech, for one).
Incidentally, freedom of expression does not universally apply to minors. Nor should it.
Think about it.
