Oink:
Taxpayers in Will County have offered its public employees a hefty pay raise and are willing to pick up 90 percent of the cost for their health insurance, but that’s not good enough for members of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Local 1028.
Its 1,300 members went on strike Monday, decrying a “paltry” offer from the county that would have given workers a 14.5 percent pay hike and have taxpayers pay for the overwhelming majority of their health insurance costs.
Read the whole thing, particularly the statements from the AFSCME’s spokesman.
(Bumped from Reader Tips.)

Public Unions have not only become the enemy of Private industry, but labours as well.
The paper pushers, teachers, nurses, have devoured what they used to stand for. These Unions are extortion rackets. There use has been nullified from its original mandate. To a political creed , not the needs of Labours who used to be abused. Are now again from these same Unions because more money is to be had from the Loafers than workers.
bad link
the county won’t have to worry about the costs very long as the county will be bankrupt and the 1300 greedy morons will be getting food stamps and welfare.
Well said Revnant Dream.
One has to ask who is at the helm of many of these constituencies? Back here in BC I find a management vacuum in government ran orgs whether utilities, health care or education. Finding the person in charge is a challenge and often when found you find that they have advanced up thru the ranks. Competence and accountability is a real issue. Within such an environment many workers feel threatened as they do not understand how decisions are made. It is an ideal situation for unions to prosper.
I do not automatically condemn workers when reading stories like this. A closer exam usually uncovers incompetence throughout the structure.
4.5 million union members in Canada
3.7 million unionized Public Servants in Canada
Do these numbers sound right? (mathematically not morally)
Would anyone have better ones?
Unions who pushed through with their support of Obamba and Obamba-care in the first place.
It’s time for the Second American Revolution.

Loved that clip with Bob Hope. Perfect.
“OinK” is right. Based on their girths, it appears they already receive unlimited snack breaks.
Unions are essentially organized crime hiding behind a culturally-leftist thuggish sanctification. In the private sector they harm significantly their own members by eventually destroying their competitiveness. In the public sector, they represent a significant conflict of interest which translates into a conspiracy to extort taxpayer money. By being directly involved in politics, they have inordinate influence on both sides of the negotiating table resulting in the taxpayers representatives signing agreements under duress at best and at worst conspiring with the unions. As they are immune from markets that ensure the absence of job security in the private sector, public sector workers should have a choice. Lose the union or lose the voting franchise.
