The new movie, The Butler, is getting rave reviews. Too bad it’s not remotely historically accurate. But why bother with facts when you can rewrite history and take cheap shots at folks on the right?!
As Mona Charen points out in her latest column, The Butler is full of fiction, specifically designed to embrace The Left’s ongoing narrative that conservative white folks are all racists who only treat blacks as token citizens. Here’s a snippet:
The press resolutely ignores these figures, while the propaganda arm of the Democratic party in Hollywood serves up distorted history to distract and pacify the public. The latest entry appears to be The Butler, which misrepresents President Reagan (as I gather from those who’ve seen it) as, at best, insensitive to blacks, and at worst as racist. Eugene Allen, the actual White House butler on whom the film is supposedly based, kept signed photos of Ronald and Nancy Reagan in his living room (pictures of the other presidents he had served hung in the basement).
According to a 2008 Washington Post profile, Allen served eight presidents for 34 years until his retirement. He did not, as the movie portrays, resign to protest Reagan’s policies on civil rights or South Africa. His wife happily reminisced to the Post about the time the couple were invited by the Reagans to attend a state dinner in honor of the West German chancellor. “Drank champagne that night,” Mrs. Allen recalled with pleasure. The film apparently depicts the invitation as tokenism. The filmmakers also insert a horrific childhood “memory” for Allen — his mother being raped and his father shot by a white landlord. Didn’t happen.

Well, I’m not sure what anyone expected from Hollywood, which was and is the propaganda outfit of people determined to abolish Christian civilization and replace it something more to their liking, with the aid of Jezebel queens like Oprah. Rewriting reality is what they do.

To “prove” a point they’ll often use, “Did you see the move, ________?” And my response will typically be, “No, but I saw the last James Bond film with Daniel Craig, how did you like that one?” When they try to offer up Hollywood fantasy as history, I let them know that Hollywood is Hollywood and that actors say and do whatever scriptwriters and directors tell them. Lefties hate being returned to reality.

Once I saw the cast, I knew it would be full of make believe. These people have mostly all become crazed in their political commentary and have chosen to turn off half of a fan base. It makes one wonder if the script hadn’t implied what it did, would they have accepted the role. To wonder that makes their acting careers nothing more that a farce.

Well, at least there was a butler and a president in the story. That part was true. The rest is pure Hollywood. The trouble with society is that today, more people will take this movie as actual history and not Hollywood fairy farts.
Agreed the leftist worldview is based on false narratives, or outright falsehoods. Not long ago I was discussing AGW theory with a relative, an applied science/engineer type who was totally convinced we were heading for a climate “tipping point” because CO2 levels were at 650,000 year highs (this is true but simply feeds into a cause/effect fallacy).
I told him I had followed the debate from day one and assured him it was bunk, and anyway we should be more concerned with what China and India were doing v.v pollution and it went hand in hand with “emissions” anyway. He could not understand that anyone could not believe AGW theory and care about pollution at the same time, that we must be indoctrinated. He further stated he had done his research and asked, “haven’t you seen ‘An Inconvenient Truth’?” I replied this was not science but Al Gore’s crap from thoroughly discredited so-called scientific sources and was surprised he would quote this fiction as evidence he had researched the issue. He had no response, just a comment about how I was just “shutting him down.” I took that to mean he had never actually had to defend his belief.
I was somewhat disturbed by his reaction since I had some respect for his scientific background, so I redoubled my research, which only reinforced my understanding and belief that AGW theory was pure junk science propagated by statists, bent on destroying capitalism, prosperity and freedom so they could represent themselves as solving the very problem they proposed to create.
Because of my due diligence I can debate anyone, anywhere on a reasonable, albeit layman’s basis, on the merits of AGW. I have yet to meet anyone who is willing to listen to me, unless they were skeptical to begin with. Most people stare at me in disbelief, as if I have some kind of mental illness, because I won’t tow the AGW politically-correct line.
Well its a black movie for liberals to suckle upon.. It has engage and enrage and leave them spent with a cigarette hanging out of their mouth.. Satisfied in their moral superiority they can go home and mark the calendar when they can vote for the next Democrat buffoon..
Its just a movie and I’m pretty sure they all left the theatre with the same politics they entered the theatre with..

The planet is 4.5 billions years old — so are we to extrapolate data on 100-200 years data? pretty sad — in scienece that is called fraud. Do we ignore planet wobbling (every 26k years or so), that tropical forests had existed previously in the high arctic, that toronto was under 1 km of ice at 13k years ago — so is that a good thing? then if so — we should be fighting global weather changer. They put darlington on hold for 2+ years which quadrupuled Onatrio hydros debt and the plants being over-run past maintenance levels — so who do we blame for high power costs — Bob Rae of the NDP & David Peterson premier of ontario who bob rae made a deal with the devil with — so was this good — no it balooned the debt of ontario hydro by 4x at very least.

I do not support hollywood any longer. Perhaps the know conservative actors like Bruce Willis and Jon Voigt, but the big vapid collection of mindless liberals who mock and preach to us … they no longer get any of my money. If I want to watch anything at all … I will wait for it to come to NetFlix where it’s only pennies to watch a movie with the eight buck a month subscription. Six dollar a bag popcorn ain’t hard to forgo either.

My 40 yr. old daughter was over for dinner tonight and mentioned that she and her husband had just seen ‘The Butler’ – they liked it, gave it a ‘B’ or ‘B+’.
I mentioned the travesty of having Hanoi Jane playing the part of Nancy Regan and we began talking about the various presidents portrayed. Sadly my daughter who is an accomplished, bright professional woman interjected with what a terrible president G.W. Bush had been. It being a birtday dinner for my wife, I wasn’t about to start a heated discussion but clearly (and disappointingly for myself) my daughter, like so many of her acquaintances, is a low information voter.
So I sent her this piece about the Butler and suggested to her that her opinions are likely based not on what she knows but rather what she has heard parroted from the media and others who in turn form their opinion on reinforcement from the herd.
