Correspondence obtained by The Sunday Times reveals the Obama administration considered compassionate release more palatable than locking up Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in a Libyan prison.
The intervention, which has angered US relatives of those who died in the attack, was made by Richard LeBaron, deputy head of the US embassy in London, a week before Megrahi was freed in August last year on grounds that he had terminal cancer.
The document, acquired by a well-placed US source, threatens to undermine US President Barack Obama’s claim last week that all Americans were “surprised, disappointed and angry” to learn of Megrahi’s release.

I wouldn’t read so much into it. I think the Obama regime would be just as much inclined to go easy on a non-Muslim terrorist who had blown up an airliner full of American civilians.
Oh, unless they could label the perpetrator a home-grown right-wing white or part white American.
Not exactly timely, the piece is 3 years old.
learning the truth 3 yrs later is better than living in perpetual ignorance
No surprise here. There has always been a visible pattern of Islamism and just plain antipathy on Obama’s part.
It was no disappointment to the Muslim in Chief at all. It was a ramabang day for him on the release.
Obama always supports his fellow Muslims. Even the NSA doesn’t do surveillance on them .
Yet another old story designed to create outrage today.
Yawn.
I hate living in the past. Anything new in the last week?
