People in desperation have almost invariably turned to a single individual who promised them better times. Or as billionaire Jim Rogers simply identifies, the current “Man on a The White Horse”.

Which means there’s really no choice. Repeal of the patriot acts in both Canada and the US is necessary if any freedom at all is to be preserved. The worst part of the Man on the White Horse syndrome is that we do it to ourselves.
I must agree and disagree, cgh. First, I agree that the worst part is we did it to ourselves. We all voted for this.
Second, I disagree that repealing the Patriot Act plus whatever idiot legislation mirrors it here in Canaduh is even the start of a solution.
The true solution is cutting the budget of every level of government in this country by half to two thirds. Defund the Man on the White Horse right down to his freakin’ pink underwear. It doesn’t matter what the law books say, it matters how much resources and manpower are available to all the little mini-Hitlers that infest the public service.
Tax cut. Anything else is delusion.

Many countries have over half their work force working for government. During the 2008 collapse Canada under a Conservative government ‘expanded’ hiring. Bottom line I do not think the people will willingly cut back government spending. It comes down to a day to day decision to get by. As the overall financial stability of more citizens worsen the less likely governments will be reigned in.
Comments were made about Hitler’s rise to power. He might have achieved power through a quasi democratic process but people largely supported an ‘outsider’ like Hitler as he was delivering what they assumed was a solution to Weimer weaknesses. In day to day life how many people do you know who are quite willing to stand by as others make decisions for them. My experience is that it is the vast majority. There is probably some psycho explanation going back to childhood for this. Supposedly only 10% of the population is prepared to take independent action.

Claudius, on the other hand, drafted by the Praetorian Guard as a maleable puppet, did more than any other Emperor do reform the Empire, saving it from an early collapse. His club foot and stutter allowed him to escape general notice and survive until Caligula’s assassination…..his scholarship partly his camophlage during the risky times, gave him the wisdom to wisely govern….
