SDA Gets Results!

By juxtaposition! Paul Wells of Maclean’s magazine shows fairness–from the “Comments” here (timing for comments will change):

Next you’ll be posting the views of Stormfront or some other bunch of haters.
This would be the same SDA that mocked camp survivors a wee while back, would it?
Paul Wells MarkOttawa • 44 minutes ago
In fairness, I should acknowledge that I did read that SDA post before writing this one.

  1. While you’re on the topic of Shiny Pony.
Is it possible that Maggie Turdeau was banging PM instead of PT?
The way Justine runs on at the mouth one could easily wonder if Paul Martin was his father. Let’s wait to see if he comes up with his 1000 top priorities for the next election.
Even the LSM (Lame Stream Media) has made the connection here:
    http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2013/04/19/john-ivison-despite-conservative-malaise-only-spectacular-collapse-could-keep-stephen-harper-from-winning-next-election/
“Mr. Trudeau gave Mr. Harper his opening by suggesting that the Boston Marathon bombing was perpetrated by “someone who feels completely excluded.”
The language was similar to that used by then-prime minister Paul Martin, in the immediate aftermath the Jane Creba shooting outside Toronto’s Eaton Centre in December, 2005, when he talked about “the consequences of exclusion.”

  2. One view would double Wells traffic.
He has spent far too long in the central Canadian LSM echo chamber and now has a vertical bad case of self importance.
O maybe just a bad case of wannabe LPC sycophancy.
    Only time will tell.
Time to cut off the taxpayer subsidies to MacLeans and let it just die off.

  3. I attempted to post this comment, but I am ‘persona non grata’ at Maclean’s.

” In a speech lamenting the vicious tone of the attack ads used against him, former Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff on Tuesday told a law school audience that his party did the same thing to Stephen Harper, unfairly tarring him as a dangerously right-wing, American-style political extremist, bent on undoing cherished Canadian values.
“We attempted to deny him standing, and now he has taken his revenge…”
Notice that Ignatieff acknowledges that the Liberals were first out of the gate with ‘attack ads’. But that doesn’t matter when you are writing ‘attack articles’,does it?

Hey Paul, since we know that you peruse the better blogs to find ‘inspiration’,maybe you can find out why I’m blocked and comment back here? Thanks, you’re a peach.

  4. From the Maclean’s link:
“— The Canadian Press, ‘Latest Round of Attack Ads Against Ignatieff Sparks Backlash,’ Jan. 28, 2011”
Oh, there was a backlash, alright, but not of the type the liberal press WANTED.:)
    Gotta love reality, eh.

  5. Anybody else see how many blogs are being picked for Ideas by Newspapers lately? From Blazing Cat fur, to Atlas shrugged, to many others.I come here first for news, including the Cat man.Though Kate & others never get a dime.

  6. All this talk about attack ads and how they don’t work and how bullying they are, doesn’t explain why the Libs and the Dippers use them so often. If you remember Preston Manning you remember “right-wing radical, hidden agenda, forcing religion down out throats etc.” It continued with Day and Harper and will continue to the next leader and how he or she will announce the Party strategy. All this talk about change is just talk.

  7. I love Harpers attack ads, they are priceless. What I loved lately was Shiny Brain Dead Pony with all his Liberal Nitwits and Losers gathered around him and even they were just short of rolling their eyes at his idiotic blathering. What a vacuous brain dead latte sipping Beta Boy, he has more female genes than male. Hell he is almost lisping as he talks. Beta Boy loves himself that is very obvious. He spends a lot of time talking to himself in the mirror. Makes me wonder a bit due to his mental issues how much he is controlled by the Desmarais Clan, like his old man Pierre was, like Chretein was like Paul Martin was. The Last thing Canada needs right now is another crooked idiotic PM from Quebec. Quebec politcians have bankrupted Canada. With the redistribution of seats, English Canada no longer ever again needs to elect a PM or party that has Quebec as its base. http://westernstandard.blogs.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/connectingchart.jpg

  8. OK, so when does Kate get her residual? When do commenters from whom lamestream journalists lift ideas/analogies/arguments get theirs?
If Kate can be sued for the content on SDA, she should equally get paid when stuff from her site is pilfer … I mean, borrowed.

  9. Them there ‘attack ad experts’ should be happy they’re being wheeled out of storage and finally have something to comment on. Or just maybe to save money the Star, CTV et al are just recycling those pretineer zactsame quotes.
I’m just glad to see politics get a little entertaining again. The CPC should do it more often – otherwise u never really hears from them these days seems.

  10. If I remember correctly Kate did NOT mock concentration camp survivors she mocked Warren Kinsella for being a gullible, no research, reactionary kind of blogger,

  11. I saw the “StormFront” post too. Isn’t it amazing how much of the American Left’s atrocious, unfair tactics have been adopted by our Canadian brethren?
I can already envision the next federal election campaign when Obama 2 Justin Trudeau is at the head of the Liberals’ campaign. No relevant experience. No valid party platform. No intelligent responses to questions. But dare criticize him for ANYTHING and you will immediately be deemed as the incarnation of Hitler. It’s going to get really ugly.

  12. There is no need to mock Warren Kinsella.
He is a walking, talking, self mocking first order dufus. He speaks, therefore he self mocks.
In other words, a perfectly modern Liberal.
Amazing how much self damage his three working brain cells can do when they fire in unison.
Much the same for Shiny Pony Hairdo Boy . . His mouth is hooked up to his minimalist brain.

  13. A ton of great comments here — yours (although for extra hilarity, you could have mentioned that “It’s time for us to ban hand-guns”) and wallyj’s lead the parade. Robert W. could be a bit less gloomy, though.

  14. Thanks David. Maybe you could post it by proxy to Well’s article?
BTW,anyone remember Macleans “Scary” cover featuring Stockwell Day?

  15. I have trouble with some concepts.
    IRONY for example.
When Kinsella is interviewed on Sun News Network …….
    Is that IRONY?
If I’m not mistaken Ezra has “borrowed” from Kate’s werk (sic) a time or two.

  16. Lovely. National Post refuse to print Kate’s columns any more, but Maclean’s will steal her ideas no trouble.
Their new business model must be Arianna Huffington’s. Don’t pay your contributors if you have any choice.

  17. Grey Lady
nah, Kate didn’t mock C-camp survivors, cuz I would have noticed, my dad was one of those survivors.
Wallj….. Stockwell (Fred Fred flinstone rode his dinosorass onto the arch) Day got what he deserved, any idiot that thinks the world ism 4-5 thousand yrs old should stay home!!!!

  18. I could do that, but since you’re an original, and this place is The Standard*, I fear that I would be doing you a serious and insulting disservice by doing so.
    *all respect to Ezra.

  19. I’m beginning to see a pattern.
The demographic that demonstrates an infatuation with liberal mythology, also seems to yearn to relive their youth.
Maybe even to the effect that they refuse to except their own mortality….as they refuse to act their age. As well as the symptom of living vicariously through some one else.
They pick a point in history and try to revive it or refuse to accept that all things at some point become history.
Ezra Levant did an excellent analysis on his April 15 show to demonstrate Justin’s predicament.
It’s not so much that he only has his name to run on, it’s that the acolytes that want him leading the lpc don’t really want him as much as they want to resurrect PET from the dead. It doesn’t matter what he says or does, they don’t care, he just has to stand there so that they can believe what they want to be true.
Harper win the leadership of the CA? Not possible.
Harper unite the right? Not possible.
    Harper win an election? Inconceivable.
Harper win a second mandate? Can’t happen.
    Harper win a majority? Never.
    Harper win a second majority?……
Don’t hear too many on the left doubting this outcome now do we? What I do hear is a great deal of nattering that the ads are “bullying”.
We got told by none other than Mulroney that we should not underestimate Justin. We have been told by pollsters that under Justin the liberals could “statistically” form a majority.
So in the liberal view of reality, what the conservatives should be doing is running up the white flag and bowing down in obesiance to Justin….at least in the world they inhabit the one where Trudeau was able to beat Joe Clark…which is the time frame they seem to be stuck in.
They had a chance to root the party in principle, instead they choose a gimmick that is no different from a Barbie doll.
But hey, he’s fantastic, he’s like plastic.
So in response to the liberal peanut gallery that Justin is a serious candidate the CPC responds by presenting Justin in his own words….and somehow this is, not untrue, not unfair,….it’s being mean……really?
They told us to take him seriously, so we did. What’s the matter? Did they forget to vet their leader before they pushed him into the leadership.
They have no one to blame but themselves.

  20. Joseph, now that’s what I’m talking about when I referred to PowerCorp and the Desmarais connections to Quebec and how they controlled 4 of Canada’s Prime Ministers and all 4 were from Quebec. The MSM allowed this to go on under Trudeau, Mulroney, Chretein and Martin and never once made an issue of how Canada was infact run by a Family Compact. Hell the Desmarais Clan were even appointed to the Privy Council, so they had access to a lot of insider info. http://westernstandard.blogs.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/connectingchart.jpg

  21. Come on, Joseph — you know better than that: no one that can put together an argument like the one you just made can fail to see their motivation.
They’re in it so they can get their grubby little hands back into the cash register.

  22. Wish I was wrong, David, but that’s precisely how I believe it’s going to be played by the Lieberals and their Media Party comrades. After all, how else do you get an unqualified candidate & his party elected?

  23. There have been more than a few cases in the last few years where a blogger — Blazing Cat Fur comes to mind — has had the results of his hard work and sleuthing covered by MSM outlets without any attribution. This isn’t one of them. My “sleuthing” in this case consisted of merely noticing/remembering a consistent pattern of the MSM’s use of the the word “backfire” to describe Conservative ads, and then doing a few minutes of Googling to compile the evidence.
In that sense my post wasn’t a scoop, so it wasn’t ‘ripped off’ by Paul Wells; I’m sure I’m not the first person to have noticed the constant drumbeat of MSM warnings over the years that the Conservatives’ attack ads would “backfire”, or that they *have* backfired.
I do appreciate Mark pointing out at Macleans that I’d already posted on the same subject here, and I appreciate Wells’ immediate acknowledgement in response that he had read the post.
When it comes to SDA getting results, well, yes: Kate’s resolute, tenacious work — her wit, her insight — has gone a long way to set the political agenda in this country for years now — you can tell by how many foaming-at-the-mouth enemies she has who lie on a multitude of other blogs about the nature of SDA whenever they think they’re talking (typing) to an unfamiliar (i.e. non-visiting) audience.
On that note, there is a “donate” button on the left-hand side of the page here..

  24. Joseph: “We got told by none other than Mulroney that we should not underestimate Justin.”
That’s because, as RFB points out, Power Corporation and the Desmarais family have been extremely influential in Mulroney’s political and private careers — just as they have been influential in the Liberal$’ fortunes. No doubt Brian Mulroney knows that Power Corporation is backing Trudeau Jr. — and that PC has very deep pockets. Power Corporation has also been very influential in Bob Rae’s, his brother John’s, and his “uncle,” Maurice Strong’s, political and business trajectories. Power Corporation wears an invisibility cloak, which is why so few Canadians know about all of these connections.
As has been said so many times before, Canada’s political class and media cabal draw from an extremely small and incestuous gene pool.

  25. I agree, however people find him attractive. To me he looks like a duck sitting on an Easter Island statue.

  26. wallyj @ 7:48 p.m.: “BTW,anyone remember Macleans “Scary” cover featuring Stockwell Day?”
Exactly. Why is it “bullying” when Conservatives go after Liberals but not in reverse? Preston Manning, Stockwell Day and Stephen Harper were attacked mercilessly while in opposition. I suppose it’s part of the game, but it’s hypocritical for the Libs to whine when their little darling Kim Justin-il is on the receiving end of what they themselves have dished out liberally towards their opponents in the past. Then again, hypocrisy is the left’s modus operandi.
    batb @ 11:04 p.m.:
That’s probably pretty close to the truth. Judging from his public comments, Brian Mulroney seems none too happy with the Harper Conservatives. Maybe they’re not big enough Big Government for him, although they’re spending enough tax money that they could be. Mulroney’s own political legacy was decidedly a mixed bag.

  27. “Lovely. National Post refuse to print Kate’s columns any more, but Maclean’s will steal her ideas no trouble.”
For the record, this is untrue. I’ve written two opinion pieces for NP, one requested, one submitted. Nobody’s “refused” to do anything. Plus, I don’t want to write columns. There are already too many under-qualified opinion mongers pumping out crap, the world doesn’t need another.

  28. I’m not disagreeing with the possibility, but from where I sit, they’ll need a much more robust cover story than the one they’re offering at the moment. Comparisons with Obama are fine and all that, but the so-called “moral imperative” associated with Obama just isn’t there for Mr. Trudeau, Jr. (although there’s no shortage of stock-in-trade righteously-indignant and over-reaching bloviation from the usual suspects, of course — background noise, if you will):
    – Justin doesn’t represent any sort of historical or ethnic injustice that needs to be redressed. On the contrary, in fact, Justin represents a sense of entitlement and condescension that’s calling out to be smacked down again.
    – Whether we like it or not, there is broad consensus across the political spectrum in Canada about the shape and form of the health care system, whereas in the United States I can’t see that there is any more. I don’t see a wedge for Justin here like their was for Obama. Don’t get me wrong: I have no “social justice” hobby horse to ride — my sensibilities on this subject concern the economics of risk and cost pooling. I can’t say with any certainty that we’d be any less unhappy than Americans have become with a system that costs 70% to 100% more per capita and is not inclusive of the entire population (not that Obamacare will do anything about any of that).
    – We aren’t engaged in any large-scale “unjustified” (at least as far as a big chunk of the population is concerned) foreign military operation: a big part of Obama’s implicit narrative was that Americans were going without health care so that the US could afford to fight unnecessary and meaningless foreign wars, which at some point might require America’s youth to sign up against their will. I don’t see how Justin get’s any mileage out of any kind of argument like that.
    – At the end of the day, despite all of the above, the last-minute economic crisis was demonstrable in Obama’s election, allowing him to position himself as having more empathy than his opponents. Barring a meltdown that is seen to be Stephen Harper’s fault or that the Conservatives are perceived as mishandling, I’m again at a loss to see how any such positioning like Obama’s helps Justin. I’d point out in this connection that it was Mr. Harper (who, at last report, by the way, has something like twice as many Twitter followers as Justin) who picked up 18 or seats in the Canadian general election that occurred in the midst of the same crisis.
Quite apart from which, I think Justin looks even more two-dimensional as a politician than Mr. Obama did at the time. I’m certain he has no clue how he’s being manipulated by the LPC establishment, or how much it shows: Mr. Obama at least could tug on the heart strings with a bit of Martin Luther King-style “walk with me”; Justin looks like a kid. I find the conflation of Justin, his father and Obama pretty lame-o, frankly, and pretty easily deconstructed — aside from the above, if Justin wants to hide behind his father’s air-brushed “reputation”, our tactic should be to continually cross-position Justin against his father’s great moon-beam policy failures, as well as to a lesser degree those of the current head sycophant, Mr. Chretien (although in the case of “root causes”, Mr. Trudeau, Jr. is doing a particularly fine job himself). Given the ongoing creative dry-patch of his handlers, I think things will be okay.

  29. RFB;
The Family Compact, as epitomized by Power Corp, have been running this country for what 300 years? Many easterners simply cannot do as well financially without controlling the cash flow of the nation. Many like to suggest a cultural difference between east and west but I always thought it was about who controlled the money.
You don’t have to dwell on the leftist crap MacLean’s puts out. The financial media is slowly cranking up their anti Harper rhetoric in an effort to undermine the main CPC strength which has been the economy. I expect that from the G&M but BNN is coming on strong.
As much as Turdeau II is an empty vessel the CPC attack adds will have to continue threw 2015 as the left will reinvent this guy continually until they possibly hit a winning product.

  30. Liberal logic, or lack there of, at it’s finest. They assert the attacks ads hurt Harper, okay so why are the left wailing and pissing-their pants in outrage if the ads hurt Harper??? See they tell us that ads are bad for Harper, and if that were true they’d sit down shut up and enjoy his fall from grace but that’s not what the elites are doing. I suspect the liberal loons think we’re as thick as they are via using reverse psychology.

  31. Kate absolutely did not mock the Holocaust or survivors. She mocked Warren Kinsella and it was totally hilarious and wickedly funny. I’ve suggested to Arnie and Kathy that a “Liberated By *insert media outlet here*” or “As First Seen At” stamp might be a good addition to stories lifted from blogs by the mainstream media trawlers. Just a thought.

  32. Ha … my day is now basking in schadenfreude … beautiful.
We’ve been watching the MSM berate and lie about conservatives for decades and now they are offended by their pet progeny being hurt…. it is too effin hilarious.
There is no amount of contempt that will do for these cretinous sobs.
PS … apparently entering the correct text is not good enough for Captcha today.

  33. Dave:
Don’t discount one iota about the established influences in the LPC. My point was more about the base that allows it to happen.
The last time a Trudeau won the leadership, he was presented as the anti establishment candidate….at least that was the story line…and in the media environment of the day they got away with it.
In the modern media environment selling justin as the “fresh approach” can only work with those that remember or labour under their version of events.
Yep, the laurentian elite are calling the shots on this stage presentation, but only to a shrinking audience.

  34. Media Party hacks are deeply concerned and are telling everyone
that the CP ads showing their idol has zero experience at doing
anything useful and has ugly weird warts growing all over his
thought processes will somehow “Backfire” against the Harperites.
    Okaaaay.
