  5. It occurs to me that I may possibly have offended some of you at some point. I mean, I’ve been commenting here for years, so I’m almost bound to have really p*ssed someone off.     Chavez is dead, the election to replace him is being fought by an ex bus driver Nicolas Maduro, elevated to union organizer, then VP, and Henrique Capriles, a former state governor who’s running for the second time for this job.

  11. A brilliant young climate scientist was this week crushed to death by a truck while cycling to work through Central London.
    Katharine Giles, who has presented her work to MPs, was killed by the massive vehicle as it made a left turn in rush hour traffic near Victoria Station on Monday morning.
    Dr Giles was a researcher and lecturer at University College London, recently named the fourth best university in the world.
    The 35-year-old last year addressed politicians on the problems of fresh water storage in the Arctic, which was one of the focuses of her research.
    She had worked at the Center for Polar Observation and Modelling at UCL since taking her PhD from the university in 2005.
    It is the second tragedy to hit the department in 2013, after its director Seymour Laxon died of a brain hemorrhage when he fell down a flight of stairs in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

  12. I am in the market for a bolt action .22 to teach my sons to shoot. I went to both my local gun shops yesterday and the shelves are practically bare. I could find one Savage .22. That was it. Neither shop had any Ruger products at all. I was told that Ruger has a back book of 2 million units and they have no idea when they will get any more. Neither had much ammo other than expensive exotic varieties. I will go back today and buy that .22 before someone else does.

    “Authorities in New Jersey allege a Muslim man beheaded two Coptic Christians, burying their bodies and heads and hands in separate graves near Philadelphia, bringing the horror of the persecution of Christians in Islamic nations to the United States.
    According to New York’s WABC-TV, the Muslim was identified as Yusuf Ibrahim, 28. He was taken into custody after the bodies were found.
    The report said investigators alleged Ibrahim killed the victims then severed their heads and hands, and buried the remains in the back yard of a home in Buena Vista, N.J.”

  22. I have a 10/22 already. I was hoping to get a 77/22. You are right, it is a great little rifle but (other than the fact that no one has one), I think a bolt gun is a better teaching gun for a 10 year old.

  24. If it is considered necessary to license gun owners (I think the old PAL system before C68 was reasonable) there will be a cost associated with that licensing. Expecting the people who need/want those licenses to pay for them is not unreasonable. 60$ sounds a bit pricey to renew a license I already have but governments are never going to do anything in a cost efficient manner
    And if it was any other government we would still have the registry and probably worse.
