Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
National Post, March 28th – Green Party leader Elizabeth May says the Harper government’s latest treaty pullout is turning Canada into the “North Korea of environmental law” as the opposition angrily denounced the move to withdraw from a UN convention…
The Atlantic, April 3rd – How the UN Covered Up a Cholera Epidemic in Zimbabwe

The sad thing here is that Dizzy actually believes the UN is a purposeful organization and that Baird doesn’t know what he is doing. If it was just cheap politics, I would cut her some slack.
It goes without saying that May is mentally handicapped, or retarded as we used to say. If the UN is going to exist, all nations should pull out of these UN scams until the money is guaranteed to be spent on the thing it is meant to fix. 80% was spent on UN bureaucracy. I’ll bet the 20% that went to Africa ended up in Germany in the form of new merc limos for corrupt African leaders.

Problem solved!
The ‘oil for food’ scam that Canadian thieves had a big part in was the last straw for me. The Lieberls got off scott free on that one as well.
This example simply recapitulates Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s description of the petty bureaucrats and apparatchiks running the Gulag system — willfully blinkered pencil pushers protecting comfortable sinecures at the cost of thousands and even millions of lives. The UN is long past being part of the solution is at best the ultimate dead-letter compound and is more often part of the problem in much of the world.
I thought the watermelons liked North Korea? Confusing.
Right. Let’s quit the United Nations. We can be
Number Four
Let’s also never forget the UN being responsible for the cholera outbreat that devistated Haiti

And then covered that up

Indeed why do we (or any moral nation) belong to this corrupt malevolent entity
The UN has grown into something it was never intended to be. We don’t need to quit it just give it a haircut. More like a buzzcut. It’s supposed to be a forum for international negotiations, not a policy making world government. This seems to be lost on many people, especially the younger crowd.
I just hope that this isn’t a one-time sop to the base (like so many of Mr Harper’s initiatives – note that the elimination of Section 13 of the Human Rights Commission is being smothered in the *Conservative-dominated* Senate).
Perhaps every 4 months or so Mr Baird should withdraw Canada from another UN boondoggle.
Pfff. How in blazes was the UN supposed to cover it up? They didn’t exactly do a spectacular job of covering up the “Zimbabwean” hyperinflation. I’m sure any journalist who cared to know about the cholera epidemic could have easily found out about it. As it is, it didn’t make any headlines outside Africa.
The reality is that the jackasses of the mainstream media never gave a tinker’s curse if Rhodesia’s Africans lived or died. All they wanted to do was spite their fathers, who had the cheek to believe that British liberty and Christian civilization were worth defending and would have traded Harold Wilson for Ian Smith any day of the week. They did everything in their power to turn the world against Rhodesia and convince the gullible that Zimbabwe would be just as prosperous and free under Robert Mugabe.
Well, lads, your old men are with God or soon will be. Trust me, they and Ian Smith will have the last laugh. Among their privileges in the bosom of Abraham will be the satisfaction of seeing their bolshie sons get their just deserts in a place even Robert Mugabe couldn’t make any worse.

Elizabeth May wants that Kyoto.
When you hear the opposition debating PM Harper on this: Just remember what Chretien did:
In the 1970s Jean Chretien gave the green light to developing the vastly expensive Oil Sands. In the 1990s he initiated huge tax breaks for the project.
The UN has grown into something it was never intended to be.

Believe it when I tell you that the UN is exactly what the commies who created it intended it to be.
Whenever Lizzy May pipes up and criticizes the Government for anything, I take that as a sign that whatever she’s criticizing is actually moving in the right direction. As the current situation is.
As for the UN, we could pull out, we’re also members of NATO, the Commonwealth, the Fracophonie, the OAS, the WTO, the G7 and the G20. We don’t need the UN to get our message out. However, I would still recommend we retain our UN membership. We should simply provide the minimum funding to pay the dues and our delegation should be as small as possible. Show the flag, so to speak.
We could wind our participation down as Roseberry suggests. Announce every four months that we are withdrawing from another failed program.
How’s this?
“We Don’t Need No Stinking UN”
“…We can be Number Four”
A better idea.
Canada extricates itself from the putrid UN, and becomes the genesis for a new group of aligned countries that agree on certain principles: the rule of law; true democracy; human rights including property rights (Canada has some work to do on that one); unconditional support (defence) of allied nations; no truck or trade with non-members;
Good for Harper. You can bet the UN hates this guy.
The article trys to imply that the garbage in the photo comes from ships. The fact is that this picture of the garbage patch is actually in Manila Harbor in the Phillipines.I would bet that most of this “garbage patch” came from shore and not from ships.Would Toronto,Vancouver or any other major city look any different if garbage like this was allowed to be dumped indiscriminately into the water? If these garbage islands “the size of Texas” really do exist why have we never seen a satellite photo of them, instead we see some guy paddling around Manila Harbor in a few hundred square yards of other peoples trash.
// countries that agree on certain principles: the rule of law; true democracy; human rights //
In rhetoric or in reality? Find me one of those. And such a paragon wouldn’t be caught dead palling with our elective dictatorship.
The UN is supposed to be everybody. The good the bad, & the Canadians.
I don’t think anyone here really thinks that Canada should leave the U.N.
You’re absolutely right Area 52. This is a stunt by the axis of UN cronies to gin up publicity for another imaginary environmental crisis. What do you want to bet all that composting garbage is a major contributor to global warming …oops, I meant climate change…. and that the poorest of the poor in the third world will be the hardest hit? I just wonder if the blame for garbage patch can be laid at the feet of afflent western countries and if the solution involves a UN panel of left leaning professorial types and carpet bags full of cash? The scam changes but the MO is always the same. Even Hiram Slick from Pumpkin Creek only bought The Brooklyn Bridge once.
“..I don’t think anyone here really thinks that Canada should leave the U.N. ..”
You’re kidding, right?
Given a free vote on this site , I would guess that only you would want to remain a member in the most corrupt collection of despots on the planet.
