  1. Um. Good editorial. One thing I really liked was he called them the Alberta OIL sands. Of course some re-gurgitating leftard called them TAR sand.

  2. “We hope some of that Canadian good fortune rubs off on our city.”
Then elect a guy like Stephen Harper, instead of Rahm and Bam-Bam!
And NO, we ain’t a -goin’ ta trade him.
Poutine should go over big in the U.S.,it’s a bloody cholesterol bomb. Soon those fat asses we see on American streets will be a couple more axe handles in width.

  3. I can remember only a few years ago having a good laugh at all the crazy stuff happening in Canuckistan. Who is laughing now?

  4. Alright article, but frankly although I have nothing against America or Americans, I’ve gotten over how they think of us. They’ll probably always be our strongest economic and military ally, but it’s Canada’s turn to stand tall in the world.

  5. Not to pee ice water on this lovefest, BUT … the Chicago Tribune has never had a negative thing to say about the Obamunist or about their mayor, the Godawfulfather Rahm. And if the Bears new coach from the CFL, an American named Mark Trestman, loses 2 of his first 4 games next Fall, he and Canada will BOTH be regarded as lower than whale poop … and we all know where that resides.

  6. A nasty bit in that piece was the Trib calling on State Dept to stop pandering to the enviro’s over Keystone. Not THAT’S language we mostly haven’t heard from the MSM in the US, or Canada for that matter. I predict a posse of green slime showing up in the Trib’s editorial board tomorrow morning.

  7. It’s always slightly surprizing, even though it shouldn’t be by now, to read an American take on Canada.
We are so well versed in the current events and culture of American happenings and then you read something like this and remember that there is zero reciprocity. when they turn to ponder Canada it’s always like an old Aristocrat turning in the direction of a small child in the distance who just blew a fart. They didn’t know the kid was there, they don’t care at all, but for a brief moment they can chuckle and turn back to serious business.

  8. I did not appreciate seeing our RCMP in dress serge attending O’%uc*head’s installattion as King of America. Call me bitter….but call me a realist.

  9. I think a few people should check out the comments section at the bottom of the chicago tribune article. In particular, there’s a “Like” button underneath Dale Mitchell’s comment of “You’d prefer Chretien the Crook? Trudeau? Wake up”. A couple of hundred likes might get the point across nicely!

  10. Boy, things must be pretty bad in the US.
I mean, to put Canada on a pedestal, sitting as we are with $17,360.00 of federal debt for every man woman and child, another $17,600 of provincial debt per capita in Ontario; $21,000 in Quebec; $16,000 in Nfld; etc….

  11. This American is doing his best to move to Canada. I’m not under the illusion that Canada is perfect, but it is in far better shape financially than the US, and is doing many things right that the US, in my all-knowing opinion, is doing wrong.

  12. I have no idea why they would call a group of Obumbles butt kissers who revel in corrupt beltway culture, “Canadians”. I certainly have nothing in common with them. These are the same lot of gummint-worshipping leaches who have destroyed freedom in this nation with big government – now they go south to watch that once great nation surrender its liberty to authoritarian collectivism.

  13. Fantastic! I hope those smug Chardonnay-sucking despots on council felt genuine fear of public outrage at their politically correct tyranny. ALL elected politicians who want to step over that fine line from governing to tyranny should fear the people.
They thought it was just another routine politically correct purge of rights and civil government when they bullied that council member for his constitutional beliefs. These political revisionist wolves thought the sleeping watchdog would not notice one more missing sheep. I would have payed a lot to see the expression on their faces when they were confronted by an armed public for their treachery.
This is the only way to deliver a constitutional warning to malfeasant swaggering politicians who pretend armed self defense does not exist in the soialist utopia. God bless the 2nd amendment, as the SCOTUS has ruled repeatedly, it isn’t about hunting or needs-based communism it’s about the means to keep criminals and tyranny at bay.

  14. oops wrong thread again!! This browser sucks! My above comment should have been in the Oak Harbor thread. Duh-oh!

  15. How can we all be anything but doomed no matter whether Canadian or American. The koolaid has been drunk and the clock is ticking. When over 50 % of the electorate take more than they put back the ultimate conclusion will be collapse. I don’t even try to communicate an objection anymore. The leftards have won. When the banks in Euroland publically admit their bankruptcy the end will be nigh.
In the mean time the financial press chirps about the ‘recovery’ underway and money starts flowing back into equity markets. We used to make fun of lemmings until we turned into lemmings.

  16. “I have no idea why they would call a group of Obumbles butt kissers who revel in corrupt beltway culture, “Canadians”. I certainly have nothing in common with them…”
If Alberta’s last provincial election results are anything to go by, I’d say that Calgary and Edmonton sit solidly in that ‘beltway’.

  17. I’m pro-American but it’s been harder to admire recently, watching the USA self-destruct under Obama with so few Americans willing to fight back. I’ve come to realize Canada is actually quite conservative, financially economically politically, but not socially. We experimented with socialist policies as many countries did, which are gradually being reversed. Biggest difference, Canada never had a subversive ‘Progressive’ movement, which the US did (1890’s), bigtime, which percolated on through the 20th century, and that’s the cultural soil that has allowed Obama and the Democrats to so blindly destroy all the USA has built. It’s tragic, watching America tear itself apart. Just as Americans looked on in horror & disbelief when Canada came near to politely breaking apart with the PQ referendums, we now watch America in horror at what the Democrats are doing to their country. I find anti-Americanism in Canada vacuous, vicious, mean-spirited, and relatively obtuse, and that attitude predominates in southern Ontario. On the other hand it’s equally laughable how the US media/movies misportray all their friends & allies, Canada included. It’s so unfortunate Obama was re-elected. It would simply have been better if the GOP had won … for the country, for liberals in America, for the economy, for the country’s unity, for its future, for Canada and the world. Details on Obamacare are trickling out, it’s going to make Canada’s provincial health care systems seem unbelievably corruption-free, inexpensive, well-run, rational … The article’s writer is apparently unaware that the US produces 11 mln bpd of oil, Canada produces 4 mln, Mexico 3 mln. North America now produces more oil than OPEC states … I don’t expect America to survive the next 4 years.
