He’s correct. Nobody needs one because nobody has yet invented one.
The 30 rounds per second machine gun is a wonderful figment of his imagination.
Yeah, but Rambo COULD carry one around.
‘Do you care less when brown people die?’
Obama must because I haven’t heard of him wandering around his home town Chicago spouting off on gun control there much.
https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0Ara-YVofdq9jdHBlal9OaGhWUDFsbkNFbkpraV9tS3c&output=html
People are being murdered in Chicago at the rate of around 9 or 10 per week.
OTOH, maybe ‘brown people’ are not the same as ‘black people’.
The writer has obviously experienced “conversations” with lefties.
If they can ever find one with a cyclic rate of fire of 1800 rounds per minute, they could sell it to the Army and retire rich. However, they would require two slaves to carry their ammo. It never ceases to amaze me how erudite, educated, and erroneous our betters in the media are.
Jeezus…Who’s cranking that gatling gun?
At the risk of being didactic….
30/sec = 1800 rds/min…
Maxim/Vickers 250/min
Colt Browning 30 cal 1917 medium machine gun–450/min
Thompson 1921 submachine gun 850/min
Mg 34….800/min
Mg 42…1200/min
I used a stop watch once reviewing “First Blood”…strting when Rambo opened fire…stopping when he did…M60–800/min…
1min 45 sec….with 1 185rd belt….
Yeah I recall the westerns where the 6 shooters musta had a belt feed…..
WW1 was started by a guy firing 2-3 shots with a pocket pistol…..
Yes. The personification of one of the weakest hunting rifles around, the Bushmaster AR-15, is about to begin.
Remind anyone of how Polytech played out? The evil Ranchrifle.
No one will listen to anyone who explains that any rifle or handgun could have been used to kill children.
I hope these people stay ignorant. As long as they have evil assault weapons to focus on, maybe they’ll leave the rest of us alone. I’m willing to sacrifice access to AR-15s and Chinese M4s. I’d be embarassed to be seen with one of those, anyway. I wonder how this is going to play out in Canada? All those ‘assault’ weapons are already restricted here. The only step available, is an all-out ban, and confiscation. With the way Harper and Co. have been trending toward political correctness, it could happen.
Joe ‘proud NRA member’ Scarborough has confused a full-auto machine gun with a semi-auto rifle. The bushmaster is not a full auto rifle. Five bucks says that he obtained his NRA membership just so he could play the ‘moderate’ NRA member on TV.
“I’m willing to sacrifice access to AR-15s and Chinese M4s.”
The problem with sacrificing the property and rights of others is at some point when everything is sacrificed, and nothing is left, they’ll come for you.
You can be sure that I wouldn’t lift a finger to help you, either.
Do you spell Troll(e) with or without an e on the end? Should someone put lying as the adjective in front of it? Does this liberal progressive snark really think we are all so stupid that we do not know that he is not a member of the NRA and that he knows absolutely nothing about firearms? Yet he is so enlightened that he feels free to tell us what is needed.
Why are all these phony bastards always claiming to be prouwwd of being something they reallly aren’t . Here in Alberta everytime she or one of her family , or party of liberals disguised as conservatives get caught at something , out pops Redforehead with the ” I’m really quite prouuwwd of ” mantra .Is there a handbook called talking points for liars ? ?
I do wonder when the point will come that the NRA and gun manufacturers get sued in a very big way. As a general philosophy, both these groups oppose any and all attempts to regulate the sale and distribution of guns. Neither group hesitates to interfere with the democratic process to get their way.
It is not as if there isn’t already some precedent in law for such a lawsuit. I think we are very close the point where a smart lawyer will be able to successfully connect the dots in a convincing way.
Me thinks the NRA’s days are numbered….cavalier attitudes eventually come back to bite you.
the warhog fires at 2000 to 4000 rounds per minute. is a gatling gun style cannon a machine gun.
The thing you never see in the movies is the assistant machine-gunner using his asbestos mittens to change the gun barrel out when it is white hot. The German MG-42 had the highest cyclic rate in WWII and it consumed barrels and ammunition extravagantly. The Wehrmacht assigned 3 to 6 men per MG-42; the gunner who carried 2 or 3 spare barrels, the assistant gunner who carried the tripod, ammunition and a spare barrel and up to 4 riflemen to carry ammunition and a spare barrel each, for up to 8 spare barrels! In comparison the Bren had a cyclic rate of 450-480 rpm, and generally only one or two spare barrels were carried by its two man crew.
Post WWII variants of the MG-42 had the cyclic rate reduced to 50-70% by fitting a heavier bolt as 20rps is overkill.
We all know “gun control” is about civilian disarmament – bans, confiscation and criminalization of privately owned firearms by the statist left. The 2nd amendment has always vexed the authoritarian left because it is a major protection which stands between the individual and the rogue state – the statist left hate anything that stands between the individual and state omnipotence.
Reopening a “dialogue” on guns is therefore authoritarian code for using the dialectic to offer draconian state measures and when backed off, settle for slightly reduced draconian measures. They know that any compromise with authoritarian leftist statism is another reduction in rights/freedom conceded to the autocratic state.
If they want to “dialogue” about something let’s get a congressional hearing to discuss the silent partners in ALL these mass killings A) prescribed psychotropic drugs and B) schools and other public places where personal arms are banned but there are no armed guards/police. C) A blood lusting whore media that give these crazed nobodies the celebrity status they crave.
90% of mass shooters have been through the mental health system, are on mind bending drugs and under the care of a shrink.
Secondly, nutters know that the one place they can get the highest body count is in designated no-gun zones – they have assured access to victims with no armed resistance. They can shoot until the ammo runs out.
Thirdly, why do we allow the media to play right into their plans by celebrating their acts in mass media? Copy cat killing is a large part of this mass killing phenomena. Is giving a psychopath the publicity/immortality they crave part of freedom of the press?
Until the gun grabbers want to openly discuss and address these 3 major causes of mass killing, Americans should not even think about putting their right to armed defense on the table – particularly with the criminal usurping cabal running Washington these days.
Keep your powder dry America, you’re going to need it.
mikeg81- Don’t really need your help. I own 6 handguns, 3 rifles, 3 shotguns(2 high cap.). If you’ve ever been at a shooting range, when some yahoos with ARs or AKs show up, you’d have a bit better understanding of what I’m getting at. These configurations attract crazy people. Designating these weapons as restricted is fine with me. At least it keeps the creepy wing of gun ownership contained, and out of the woods.
I don’t recall Joe Scarborough grilling Obama over the Fast and Furious scandal which saw the exact same firearms funneled into the hands of the Mexican drug Cartel which used them to kill 300+ Mexican nationals and some U.S. Federal Agents.
Until he does, he can shut his bloody cakehole about the fire arms issue.
“Is there a handbook called talking points for liars?”
Yeah,it’s called “Rules for Radicals”,by Saul Alinsky.
So, use their own tactics against them, rebut their crap with ,”as a proud member of the Coalition for Gun Control”…or a “proud member” of any other group you want to piss off.
Example: “as a proud and longtime member of the Coalition for Gun Control, I don’t believe that bringing in more laws to restrict the rights of law abiding citizens will do anything to prevent outrageous acts by insane persons”.
How’s that?
http://weaponsystems.net/weapon.php?weapon=AA04%20-%20C7
The maximum cyclic rate of fire for a C7 assault rifle, similar to what the deranged individual used (except the civilian version doesn’t offer fully automatic), is 900 rpm.
Even to change a 30 round magazine requires a skilled person about 5 sec. (I know, I have been timed. Note:’skilled’ is defined as less than 7 sec.)
In semi-automatic mode this would require the trigger to be pulled 15 times per second to reach the maximum of 900 rpm. This of course is physically impossible, even for a skilled shooter…! Further when magazine changes are accounted for, there is no physical way that the rifle in question could produce 1800 rpm.
In short this individual is blowing sunshine up the media’s backside.
Individual tragedies invariably produce bad gun laws by penalizing law abiding gun owners. cf the ill fated Canadian gun registry which was a 2 billion dollar boondoggle.
The gun is not responsible for the tragedy; rather in criminal law, it is the PERSON with their finger on the trigger who is held responsible.
Maybe the 2 Billion would have been better spent on mental health provisions in the medical system.
As for the political system producing an adequate response to this tragedy; I wouldn’t hold my breath. These political comedians haven’t even passed a budget in the last three years. What pray tell would give anyone any confidence, that these charlatans can come up with gun legislation; when these same idiots are holding forth gun running operations like Fast and Furious?
They can’t even stop their own border agents from being ‘iced’, whose going to believe their misplaced assurance of ‘safety’ for the masses?
Santa Claus will come sooner, than the political system will address your concerns…
Psalm 72:8 May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth!

I has a cooey .22 semi-automatic that over time and thousands of rounds later , turned itself into a fully automatic . It fired while I was checking some snares and traps .I intended to take one shot at a weasle and the clip emptied in one burst . It was about -30 that day , not sure if that affected it or not . I dropped it down an abandoned well on the way home .

Our Frigates have CIWS (Close-In-Weapons-Systems). Their model is the Plalanx Mk 15 Gatling gun which throws out 20mm spent uranium projectiles at 50 rounds per second and used for shredding anything in-coming. Not particularly easy to hide under your trench coat while going into a crowded theatre.
Regarding Obama’s magical thinking, I have a way to prevent future school shootings that is easily and quickly implemented. Arm and train the teachers immediately. Given the number of firearms instructors in the USA, within a month 10% of school teachers in the USA could be trained to a level of proficiency needed by a SWAT member. Train 10% of the teachers per month and then have monthly range sessions and mandatory yearly requalifications.
The left always claims there is no sacrifice that is too great if it would save the life of even one child, so let’s get the teachers out to the gun ranges now.
TJ @ 11:48, so the precedent has been set with the tobacco companies. My question is, who gets to appoint the commission that will decide which manufactures of which products get sued into oblivion next. After all, it worked well for Lenin and Stalin’s taxation ministries in the 1920s when they wanted to get rid of certain classes or occupations in society.
We have started on that road. Who will be next, Coca Cola, McDonald’s or Ruger and Winchester?
The rate of fire of an MG 42 could be increased or decreased from the average of 1200 rpm with the use of different bolts. There are many modern upgraded versions in service in various countries.
Scarborough does not have a clue what he is talking about, and neither does most of the media. They keep confusing semi-automatics with automatics.
Liberals wanted to close down the repressive institutions, guess they didn’t quite understand what was being repressed there.
Hey coach I hate to point it out, but the people hugging their kids suddenly having been reminded their special don’t see the difference in guns or those that possess them that you do, and don’t really care about your personal property or the enjoyment you take from it.
Coach: no disrespect but guys like you are the reason the British are down to single shot rifles and shotguns and no handguns.
The true goal of anti-gun people is banning as many guns as they can, and its a gradual stepwise approach. If you don’t defend the rest of the people in the hobby who use AR-15s that are simply semi auto rifles then don’t worry they will come for your extended mag shotguns and handguns shortly (and many of whom use AR-15s with respect this whole sterotype you have put forward is wrong).
Guys like you are worse than the antis to be honest.
Joe must get his gun knowledge from the old MAD magazine article which described the ability of certain firearms. My fave was the “granny gun” of the old West, where Granny would take it, point it at the sky, pull the trigger, and..
six Indians died.
Hey Mugs: that’s what the “gun free zone” notice was all about. That gun shoulda just walked right outta there when it saw the sign!
Now, why didn’t it?
My late father-in-law could remember when the local Soviet chairman came with a Chekist and some soldiers through the village and collected all the firearms.
Nibbling away at the right to own firearms is part and parcel of the Left’s plan for total elimination of private ownership. In Canada the M4 and Bushmaster are restricted and High-Cap mags are illegal except for Police and Military.
Hitler did it with the consolidated storage facilities. You put your gun in a community locker (for the good of the community and for the children) and then one day they were all gone and private ownership had been outlawed.
Pat
“Arm and train the teachers immediately.”
Not f***ing likely,Al!
Teachers are the people who support the GFGC and all the political Parties whose agenda is to ban private ownership of firearms. Teachers would have to be forced to touch nasty guns, and the Unions would tie it up in Court for years.
Elizabeth May is more likely to cross the floor to the Conservatives than teachers would ever allow themselves to be armed.
Hire and train armed school guards, posted in every school. With all the Forces veterans out of work, there should be some likely candidates available.
But,no, I expect the U.S. administration will take the easy way out, with more bans, creeping confiscation by any other name.
Just did some checking in the Chicago stats. Some were automobile related(road rage?)
I didn’t recheck my math but the results are something like this:
NUMBER KILLED
Whites 105
Blacks 346
Asians 3
non gunshot 60 (includes scalding/suffocating kids, assault, strangulation, auto)
Some deaths 22 had no ethnicity attached.(probably to help whites catch up)
The good news?
You’ll sleep better with hearing protectors.
Looks safe for Asians. Maybe they’re better shots?

dmorris, I know that teachers, the majority of whom are progressive ninnies, and their unions would object strenuously. My last statement was sarcastic as the left always demands that the right makes sacrifices while making none themselves.
The facts are that mental illness exists and so does a large pool of firearms that the mentally ill can access. There is no way to screen every person in the USA for mental illness and there is no way to remove every firearm from circulation; pandora’s box has been open a long time. Nor are guns the only weapon to worry about; swords and molotov cocktails are quite easily acquired or made.
There are first aid kits to deal with cuts and bruises, there are fire extinguishers and hoses to deal with fires so why not have the means to deal with homicidal madmen?
Here is one Texas school that has done it over 4 years ago.

“These configurations attract crazy people. Designating these weapons as restricted is fine with me. At least it keeps the creepy wing of gun ownership contained, and out of the woods.”
A bigoted, fascist fudd, willing to sell out other firearm owners. Gee, never seen one of those before.
Absent any armed defenders, I could walk into an elementary school with my single shot break action .223 rifle and kill more kids and teachers than Adam Lanza did with his so-called “assault weapon.”
And if I had a true assault rifle, i.e. one that fired fully automatic, with all the 30 round magazines I could carry, one switched on janitor
or teacher with a snub-nosed .38 revolver could put a stop to me before I got started.
But hey, school is no place for our precious, priceless, innocent, beautiful children to be learning about the value of life, especially their own, or about the real world they are being educated to live in.
“Regarding Obama’s magical thinking, I have a way to prevent future school shootings that is easily and quickly implemented. Arm and train the teachers immediately. Idiocy! Yeah, there is Mrs Grundy with a six shooter in her purse ready to take out the first heavily armed Kevlar coated bad guy that kicks in the door. This kind of talk really hurts the gun crowd’s argument to the extent they have one beyond ridiculous talking points like this.
Al_in_Ottawa “Post WWII variants of the MG-42 had the cyclic rate reduced to 50-70% by fitting a heavier bolt as 20rps is overkill.”
The reason for the 1,200 rd per min MG42 was that the MG34 couldn’t kill Russians fast enough.
Coolpacific I would like to point out that what stopped this guy was a guy pointing a gun at him. It was only then that he shot himself. If that had been done earlier lives would have been saved.
“Coolpacific I would like to point out that what stopped this guy was a guy pointing a gun at him. It was only then that he shot himself. If that had been done earlier lives would have been saved.”
This kind of nonsense leaves me speechless, and I am, in most measurable ways, a libertarian!
Personally I just wish the guy would have hung himself in his mother’s basement and be done with it. Of course his mother seems like another nutter prepper whom always seem to be prepping for nothing in particular.
Nonsense? How is that nonsense? Why did this guy chose a school instead of a cop shop? Serious question here. I mean you say that a gun wouldn’t stop him so why not go in to a cop shop and start shooting the place up? Surely you’d get more attention doign that.
I can’t believe I am responding, but here it goes: I am saying a gun wielded by an elementary school teacher would have been, effectively, useless. The risks of arming everyone far outweight the benefits. The US is the most heavily armed nation in the world, but I have yet to see this mythological armed hero emerge on occasions such as this to protect the innocent. Yet proponents always like to remind me of his potential existence as an excuse to arm even more people.
As for your assertion that attacking a police station would have been more detrimental to his health you could look to what happened at Fort Hood where 13 were killed and 29 wounded recently. Yeah, there couldn’t have been many weapons at the world’s largest military base that could be used for self defense.
If attention is what he sought, sadly I doubt he could find a more effective venue than he did.
You are a complete idiot coolpacific. Hassan attacked in one of the only places on base where everyone was guaranteed to be DISARMED. Not one person he shot was armed because they weren’t allowed to be in that building. There’s been plenty of cases of armed citizens responding to these attacks. I’ll leave that research to you but you’re a liberal so facts don’t matter.

This is information that you will *never* hear on the CBC. I think it’s fair to say that *every* report on the Newtown shootings on the CBC has included a call for firearms restrictions. Sometimes, they find a clip of a child mouthing the talking points, sometimes a parent, sometimes a politician, but often a “journalist” for some other inevitably leftist outlet. The tone adopted by the CBC “journalist” is that “gun-control” is the answer to “making sure that this sort of thing never happens again”.
Contemptible.
“If you’ve ever been at a shooting range, when some yahoos with ARs or AKs show up, you’d have a bit better understanding of what I’m getting at. These configurations attract crazy people.”
Sounds as if you’ve been hanging around one of “those” ranges, and you are willing to sell out fellow firearms owners to protect yourself. It won’t profit you, in the end. They will merely save you for last.
Or perhaps I’m being unfair to Coach. In any case:
Here’s why cutting the throats of potential allies is a bit of a sore spot with some of us.
Here is a quote that I think illustrates the mindset of the “media”, particularly Big Media. It comes from the Guardian in the UK, believe it or not.
“Another psychologist, Dr. Petra Boynton, spoke out today regarding the pressure put on psychologists by the media to produce quotes that fit their existing narratives and prejudices (quotes edited for reuse here with her permission):
“What’s really awful is it indicates how keen the media are to spin stories, create new angles even if they don’t match the news. […] They don’t want to listen to reason or acknowledge they are setting angles and spinning stories. They also don’t want someone qualified (not me in this case) to explain to them more about mental health and how to reduce stigma.”
The whole thing, if you’re interested is here:

james, only those losing arguments badly resort to ad hominem attacks. He walked into Ft Hood and killed 13 people, end of story.
Btw, I am hardly a “liberal”. I vote right of centre on almost every issue. I own guns. You keep on judging though, and maybe engage in some critical thought and quit regurgitating NRA talking points. BTW, your heroes at the NRA have shut down their facebook page, why is that?

What’s that term for a lefty who ab initio declares to be a conservative prior to spewing commie talking points?….mobie?
“Yeah, there couldn’t have been many weapons at the world’s largest military base that could be used for self defense.”
That post is not ignorance but deliberate mis-information.
General knowledge…..Fort Hood in practice is the classic “gunfree zone”.
Slick Willy Clinton made it mandatory that ALL firearms be locked down except for range practice at ALL military reservations/bases.
When the shooting occurred the first responders were municipal Police from off base. No armed MPs available.
