More Pavilions At Cinco De Mayo

Mickey Kaus;

Republicans did poorly among Hispanics last week. How to address that problem? The answer, they’re told by Washington savants, is to back an immigration reform that … increases the number of Hispanics! It’s a plan so crazy it just might be crazy.

  1. Just feeling the need to point out that backing a uniform immigration policy is racist. Backing the legalization of hispanic illegal immigrants is good social policy.
Racism can only be practiced by those who want a policy to apply uniformly. When a specific ethnic or racial group is targeted for special treatment the term racism does not apply, excepting to those who oppose the special treatment.
I would like to add a gentle reminder that there is only one racial/ethnic group that has the ability to be racist. (that group is now a minority in the state of California, btw)

  2. It seems pretty simple to me. Mexicans, when left to their own devices, built Mexico. If you want a country that resembles Mexico (politically, with the corrupt police etc., etc.), then you need a lot of Mexicans. Europeans built Europe, Canada, the US. If you want a country that resembles those places (politically, relatively corruption free, etc., etc.), you need a lot of Europeans. If you want a country that resembles Africa, then you need a lot of Africans. Any option is a valid choice, but you have to realize that you are making a choice, and you have to be prepared to live with that choice.

  3. Rack up enough debt and the only option becomes enhanced emigration to maintain the ponzi entitlement programs. Canada is no different. If whites no longer want to reproduce in enough numbers then what options remain. I am starting to think that the European culture has ran out of gas and will slide to the side. The drive for self preservation is very questionable.
Europeans like to claim capitalism as their own but it exists and has existed in many civilizations around the world. Democracy is not a prerequisit of effective capitalism.

  4. @ Kevin…. “Mexicans” is a vague descriptor in this context if only for the fact that it wasn’t until Spain took over that anything significant happened. The Mayans and Aztecs, or what remained of them became a glimmer of history or tourist attractions.
What I think is important to note is that in the U.S. there is a huge push to put “hispanics” or “latinos” in positions of power as if it were a tremendous advance … i.e. “He’s the first hispanic mayorpresidentsenatorwhatever!”
I don’t gain any popularity (or get answers) when I ask the simple question….If it’s such a good idea, why then aren’t countries run by nothing BUT these people running the entire country attracting immigrants??

Evidently then we want to copy the middle east in Canada.

  6. It is amazing how the Democrats are able to advise the Repubs. on what their policies should be as if they are trying to show the Repubs how to win an election. Give your head a shake.
There is the Left, Center and Right as of now the Dems will continue to give OPM (other peoples money)to the takers which will not go well for some Center and all Right thinkers in future elections.

  7. Stopping illegal immigration from Mexico has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with preserving the cultural heritage and values of the American Republic.
As pointed out earlier, look at California, it’s becoming more like Mexico everyday in its failed socialist, drug abusing ghetto way.
If you import mass legal & illegal immigration and promote a multicultural/ cultural mosaic society, you will have many micro societies that mirror their homelands who will eventually fight for dominance over each other.
The host society is eventually destroyed.
The lunatic Liberal left seems to believe that other societies and cultures have more to offer them personally, and yet they have the ability to go live in those societies now but refuse to do so. I wonder why?

  8. Golly! It turns out that constant talk of ‘self-deportation’ and other anti-immigrant babble will not endear to the immigrants! Maybe you should STOP THAT.
and everything to do with preserving the cultural heritage and values of the American Republic.
Not a legitimate function of government.
If you import mass legal & illegal immigration and promote a multicultural/ cultural mosaic society, you will have many micro societies that mirror their homelands who will eventually fight for dominance over each other.
Lies. Every time there is a wave of immigrants to America, we hear these same lies. And they are bunk. Every. Fracking. Time.
Here is a superior article on immigration from the WSJ.

Between 2000 and 2005, the Hispanic population in Arkansas grew by 48%, more than any other state. Social welfare spending in Arkansas is among the lowest in the country, making it an odd destination for someone in search of a hand-out. The early and mid-2000s were a period of strong economic growth in the state and much of the Southeast, and the immigrants were looking for jobs.

  9. I don’t think the GOP is going to attract Hispanic voters with token gestures. I suspect 2016 will be another BOHICA moment for them.
Is it too early to start unskewing polls again?

  10. @ LAS
Increased immigration is definitely a worthy goal. However, it must be coupled with a drastic reduction in government welfare programs. In addition to increased immigration we also need increased deportation of those who have abused our welcome. (The Sheikh of Dubai doesn’t just let multitudes of migrant workers in. He deports boatloads of them too. How many ‘immigrants’ have been deported by CIC?)
    …
Xenophobes have been telling us that more immigrants will lead to more crime. However, the facts speak otherwise. Toronto is the prime destination for immigrants, yet its ‘crime continues to drop’.
“The 2004-2011 data obtained by the Star shows a steady gradual decline in crime overall.
“Vehicle theft declined by 60 per cent, breaking and entering by 37 per cent and theft over $5,000 by 39 per cent.”

  11. LAS:
How about “defending our borders from illegal entrants” – that strike me as a “legitimate function” of government.
So it seems many of the Arkansas immigrants want to work? Great – but how many of those are legal versus illegal immigrants?
Illegal immigrants are just that – illegal.
De facto they are willing to break the law for their own enrichment. Not exactly the kind of people that would be on the top my my preferred list of potential immigrants.
On the other hand, if you were born in these United States, you are an American citizen as far as I’m concerned. Good for you, now your illegal parents can return to their home country and you can apply through LEGAL channels to have them immigrate. Otherwise you too are aiding and abetting an illegal act – of course for you it should be jail or fines, not deportation…
Cultural mosaic versus melting pot? Let’s let that sort itself out.
Oh, and that part about “constant talk of ‘self-deportation’ and other anti-immigrant babble will not endear to the immigrants! Maybe you should STOP THAT.” ?
I don’t think any legal immigrant would mind hearing that talk, in fact they might be a little miffed that no one seems to care that they followed the rules and those who did not get the same reward and no penalties.
And as for what I care about what illegal immigrants think about such talk, perhaps if they don’t like it they should GO HOME.

  12. LAS >
“Not a legitimate function of government”
Who said anything about government? The government’s job is to secure the borders and they aren’t doing it, except for South Korea and Saudi Arabia of course.
As stated on another thread, the only people I’ve had to fire in my professional career more than lazy immigrants are stupid, lazy, and dangerous, dope heads.
In all fairness as you are a self professed dope head I fully understand why you support wide open borders with Mexico and the easy access to as much mind altering substances as you can lay someone else’s money on.
Unfortunately that doesn’t help out the greater hard working society that actually lives in the real world.

  13. One of the myths that have been pushed about immigrants is that they are lazy and live off the taxpayer. Here’s what the Hamilton Spectator has to say about it:
“Recent immigrants living in poverty depend less on social assistance and more on family support than other impoverished Canadians.
“Only 16 per cent of immigrant families living in poverty were receiving social assistance benefits in 2004, compared to 33 per cent of Canadian-born low-income families who received benefits from social assistance programs.
    …
“A report released in 2007 revealed that the percentage of low-income, recent immigrant adults who had work-limiting disabilities was 11 per cent, significantly lower than the 26 per cent of other low-income Canadians who could not work because of their disabilities.”
    10 myths about immigration

  14. I don’t care about legal or illegal Johny I don’t exist to serve authoritarian bureaucrats and their edicts. For a law to be worth respecting, it must be just. American immigration law is unjust.

  15. LAS – “Lies. Every time there is a wave of immigrants to America, we hear these same lies. And they are bunk. Every. Fracking. Time.”
No they aren’t. The first generation Irish were as violent and drunken as they were alleged to have been. The Italians brought in the Mafia. (Ever notice how, in Mafia movies, the Jewish mobsters – Dutch Schultz and such – always seem to get out after one generation? Whereas the wops never leave the family business. Even Michael got sucked in.)
But that’s small potatoes, (as well as small numbers comparitively. These sorts of stats are always dodgy, but according to Wiki “about 5.5 million Italians immigrated to the U.S. from 1820 to 2004”. Meanwhile there are something like 10 million – I suspect much higher – illegal immigrant Mexicans and other hispanics in the U.S. This of course does not include the citizen population of hispanic descent.) And the point isn’t really that this is the last thing America needs in an economy where unemployment is effectively in the double digits. No. The point is that Mexicans aren’t coming from elsewhere. They’re coming from next door. They’re just pushing the border north.
    And Mexico is a semi-collapsed nightmare narco-state.

  16. @LAS,
So let me get this straight.
If you don’t think a law is just, you don’t follow it?
In this democracy, where an elected Congress has passed the law, and an elected President has’t vetoed it, you, LAS, Grand Authority over all you survey, can simply declare by Executive Order that a law is unjust, and order that it not be followed?
I know who you relly are!!!
    You’re Barack Obama!!!!!!!

  17. Bush junior had good support among Hispanics — plenty of Latin Americans used to vote Republican. In fact Bush was the first to suggest immigration reform and to propose granting legal status to illegal Mexican families who had lived in the U.S. for many years but had otherwise been law-abiding.
The reason the Romney Republicans didn’t have that kind of Hispanic support wasn’t necessarily Romney’s fault. The fact is Obama succeeded in re-racializing America. Instead of Obama’s Presidency creating the much-touted “post-racial” America, Obama played the race card to the max — Obama was a quintessential race-baiter. And it worked.

  18. And Mexico is a semi-collapsed nightmare narco-state.
That’s a result of War on Drugs and bad governance. And those earlier waves of immigrants were perfectly well assimilated. The border is exactly where it has been. The Mexican-American war is over; nobody gives a crap about the Alamo.
If you think immigration increases unemployment you are economically illiterate.
I am the grand authority over my life, Johny, and if I am confronted with an unjust law I can break be it Obamacare or ‘papers please’ Kafka immigration policies, I break it. Your democracy can go to hell.

  19. LAS >
“Your democracy can go to hell.”
LAS calm down before they hear you drooling over the communal keyboard and up your meds.
“….if I am confronted with an unjust law I can break be it Obamacare or ‘papers please’ Kafka immigration policies” – LAS
LOL, Bundy didn’t like the “unjust” stalking laws either. You’re an entertaining blast really; you truly don’t understand why you’re an online misfit with an empty opinion.
I suppose you support Socialist Frances push to aid the Syrian Rebels in overthrowing the “Evil Assad Regime” as you did with the Arab Spring, yes? Spreading all that “go to hell” Freedom and Democracy.
The fact is LAS, Europe particularly France has been pumping their demographics full of these so called hard working Islamists with no skills. France via NATO & UN then goes and bombs the hell out of their homelands in the name of Freedom & Democracy. Any chance that all of these hard working Muslims who like to occasionally car-b-que the streets for fun may take offense and start IRA style bombing the cities over time instead?
Of course they will, and what will the Socialist French government do then? Yup that’s right, “Papers Please”.

  20. You’re an entertaining blast really; you truly don’t understand why you’re an online misfit with an empty opinion.
Oh God, the irony, the lack of self-awareness. Sublime projection.

  21. LAS >
    “Projection”?
When have you been right about anything?
No surprises here again, more mumbles and exit stage left for LAS as usual, tomorrow is another new thread to start your infantile BS all over again, eh.

  22. increases the number of Hispanics?
or we – white people – could start committing suicide
    what?
is anyone still not clear on what leftism is all about???
my solution would only make happen faster what is already happening anyway.

  23. People won’t talk about it. Try being an Illegal Canadian in America. NO resource is not used to track these folks down to deport them. No talk about Licenses for them or voting rights.
Look at the border police used, than compare it to the sieve on the Mexican one.
This is not about rights for immigrants , its about as usual with the left racism. If your not an identifiable group to be used for political reasons. You become persona non Grata. The rules change for you if you speak English or are White.
Ask yourself why the border between Canada & the USA is so watched , Mean while Obama sues States near the Mexican for even trying to monitor the Southern border?
White Canadians are the American Immigrations nightmare. Considering we actually speak English, work, & having a similar system , if not culture. Can go undetected. No tears for Canadians coming to America illegally, no Senate committees or amnesty’s. They do sell us guns , but not to criminal organizations. As usual with lefties all is race based. All people are labeled, all assigned their parts.

  24. Revnant Dream >
Unlike previous US “immigration”, the US is acclimatizing to being a forced fed bilingual nation. A Mexican national can live in Southern California in complete Spanish emersion from schools to healthcare, shopping, and government services.
This is not about assimilation, it is about conquest. What is under siege is the traditional American value system to one of Third World corruption and socialism.
How can one pass on the traditional American values when the recipients are not only told to ignore them but loath them?
When a country loses its cultural values it becomes another nation. In the current case of the US a multilingual, multicultural banana republic.

  25. I’ve kicked your ass all over the place with some help and all you can do is furiously make up non-sequitors. I brought evidence; you brought BS. In other words the usual.
What is under siege is the traditional American value system to one of Third World corruption and socialism.
Please leave me out of your collectivist fantasies.

  26. LAS >
Go smoke another joint LAS, you’re a failure and a disgrace to yourself.
The day you kick anyone’s ass it’ll be a Featured Comment on SDA. Good luck with that.

  27. Revnant Dream @ 7:46;
You would think the USA under Obama would open the gates to Canadian immigration. Look at the profile. Primarily leftards with a natural propensity to shut-up and stand in line. Generally easily confused by the MSM and very accepting of the CBC 5:00 News.
To me an ideal Demo voter.
