Posted this not out of arrogance or cockiness, but to highlight something I found shocking. Not one thing did I say about economics is false or a lie. It all stands to not just logic and reason, but reality. The shocker is how there are so many people that refuse to accept this as reality and resort to emotion, if not outright anger (though I did add the cigar to give it that “arrogant touch”).

Looks like the American electorate is going to get what’s coming to them. Major companies such as Boeing Defence, Caterpillar etc are already laying off as the Republicans don’t have enough members to repeal Obamacare.
I hope some American companies relocate northward.
I think Canada is a good bet for these entrepreneurs and rich folk. We speak english, low taxes, rule of english common law, much like the USA but still sane!

Denis, we are sane for the time being, but there is every indication that Justin Trudeau, a Marxist substitute drama teacher will be our next PM. I can’t see that working out well.

Best advice: move your business to a red state. The Americans elected lots of GOP governors this last election — states with GOP governors are on the whole doing better economically than blue states.

A friend returned to Canada after working 12 years in China. His new to Canada Chinese wife is a very intelligent person but had no concept of what voting really means or what issues and what people are involved.
As a test for her thoughts on voting he showed her two pictures.
One was Stephen Harper (she did not know who he was)
The other was Justin Turdeau (she did not know who he was)
My friend asked her if she would vote for Harper … her repsonse was that she was not sure because he did not look right to her.
When asked about the whoreson … her response was positively yes… because she liked the way he looks.
This is a perfect example of how people who know nothing make decisions.
I used to think that voting age should be raised but now how about you get a vote if you have paid say $25,000 lifetime in income tax. When you get to that level Revenue Canada sends you a voting card.
On the topic of the Aaron Clarey video … that was brilliant. One point he made that goes over many heads is that economics IS NOT the same thing as politics.
Economics is a matter of facts without regard for any sort of feelings or ideology and the consequences of ignoring facts are what always surprise the ignorant and unthinking.
What is coming will crush a lot of people. Add the coming solar minimum and 20 million young male commie Chinese with no prospect of marriage (due sex selection)- all about 2020 – and you ain’t seen nothing yet. “You have no f****** idea what’s coming.” Agreed.
On the other hand it should be a great opportunity for a young 20 year old guy with a marketable skill, no debt/ some savings and no family. Makes me kind of envious, actually. I am the tail-end of the baby boom – watched all those ahead of me suck up the cream and make me live by their stupid, fracked-up PC rules… oh well.

There is one element that I wish exit polls would attempt to determine:
The level of political interest of a voter.
Iow, how closely does a particular voter follow politics – political news – world affairs, economics etc. ?
And then plot that against which party they voted for.
My guess is that on average republican voters were far more politically interested than dem voters were/are.
Hey Captain, you’re preaching to the choir. The ones that really need to hear what your saying are not going to click on a video titled “I am the State”, however true that is. You need to title it something like “Barrack Needs You..and all your money!” or “Free Cell Phones and Gas..where do they come from?”… or how about “Big Bird economics 101”
Oh and 15 minutes long… these people have the attention span of a gnat, if you can;t get the message across in the same time as it takes to watch a Brad Pitt perfume commercial, you’ll lose them…pathetic.

Short version:
Republicans knew more than Democrats. Older people (>35) knew more than young people. Educated people knew more than uneducated. Men knew more than women.
Not to put too fine a point on it: people who knew what was going on voted Republican. People who couldn’t find their asses with both hands voted for Democrats.
The only thing that has saved Canada from the U.S.A’s idiotic election results is that we have two left-wing parties to split the vote. We are balanced on a very narrow wire.

Most of us on this site have been watching this slow motion train wreck for 5 years or more and are hoarse from shouting warnings no one seems to care about. Some learn the easy way,some the hard way and some never. Like you said, they have no idea what’s coming their way. Let ’em learn the hard way. Beyond choice now anyway. My wife and I recently retired. For the past few years we have been considering moving south to enjoy retirement. I have always admired the American people and looked forward to being among them. Four years ago we were rather taken aback by Obama’s win but considered it a “one off” and that things would get back to normal in a few years.
Last Tuesday’s results made up our minds. We are giving up any hope of moving to the US in the near future. We aren’t rich by any means but we have sufficient funds to live well and support ourselves in a very reasonable manner. Quite frankly, we are scared at what the USA has become.
and in what direction it is going. Canada has been good to us but we felt that living in the US would better fit our desires in retirement.
We are staying put. This country has a lot more going for it than the USA at this time in our lives. We’ll put up with the winters and all.
It is so very sad what has happened to the USA in so few years.

I wish that was true.
But it isn’t. The problem is not so much the federal government – though the Tories seem unable to balance a budget or reduce the federal payroll – as the benighted provinces. Take a look at the Ontario and Quebec provincial deficits. Take a look at what BC will be getting when Adrian Dix is elected Premier in May. Or Alberta rejecting an actual conservative alternative.
Then take a look at consumer debt levels. And the slow melt of housing prices.
Canada does some things fairly well. Yes, our taxes are a bit lower; but then toss in the GST and look at the percentage of GDP spent by the federal and provincial governments.
Americans are just getting their first taste of socialism on a large scale; Canadians have been living with socialism for the last half century and, realistically, there is not a lot of push back.
Is that a cuban cigar, and is that the normal way to ‘smoke’ a cigar?

Inquiring minds need to know if:
1 You just enjoy a good cigar.
2 You just enjoy sticking it to the anti-smoking Nazis.
3 You don’t want to live long enough to have your diapers changed in a nursing home because you lived clean and ate healthy.
4 You know full well that the anti-smoking crusade is simply a p!ssing contest between the health Nazis and that thrive on control and the (thinner) people that just enjoy smoking.
5 You know that second hand smoke had no proof or traction until the children were thrown into the breech for ammunition.
6 That the World wide anti- smoking campaign is driven by the WHO (ie, The UN)to see what works and what doesn’t in the quest for world government and sheep behavior . Just like Agenda 21.
7 You know that the statistics for smoking have the same credibility as the statistics for Global warming.
8 You are just trying to help out the American/Cuban tobacco industry before the fine art of making a good cigar is lost.
9 You saw the government endorsed movie “Reefer Madness” and understood that if they lied through their teeth on that one, they would lie about anything.
10 Or all of the above.

It’s delicious, an individual decides to intentionally limit their income, deciding that the ability to acquire more “stuff” is worth less than than to forgo becoming a serf to the state & its dependents.
The thought of a majority of the productive members of society doing this would cause those statists who have some facsimile of cognizance to sense a shiver running up their spine. The names of the guilty aren’t worth mentioning, they’re below regard.
The Captain has chosen wisely if he has decided to abstain from reproduction, the lure of “stuff” is much harder to ignore given children entering into the equation.

You don’t have to be jealous. You can join too. Just work enough to get by and then sleep in till 10AM every morning. It’s actually quite doable. AND there’s the added bonus of having so little in assets, nobody can sue you and there’s nothing the government can confiscate later in a “wealth” tax!
