From WUWT – “unprecedented” and “right on time!”
For several days this month, Greenland’s surface ice cover melted over a larger area than at any time in more than 30 years of satellite observations. Nearly the entire ice cover of Greenland, from its thin, low-lying coastal edges to its two-mile-thick center, experienced some degree of melting at its surface, according to measurements from three independent satellites analyzed by NASA and university scientists.

“Ice cores from Summit show that melting events of this type occur about once every 150 years on average. With the last one happening in 1889, this event is right on time,” says Lora Koenig, a Goddard glaciologist and a member of the research team analyzing the satellite data. “But if we continue to observe melting events like this in upcoming years, it will be worrisome.”

Worrisome to who?.. I am guessing if this is for real,(doubt it), that the people who live there would love to have a few years break, and actually turn down the heat for a few months of the year and go buy a BBQ. I’m not sure that I am ready for those “Northern Beauties” in bikinis yet, but hey, to each their own. However, if I were them, I wouldn’t throw away the winter clothes, sled, snow shovels just yet.
I’m hearing sort-of contradictory arguments. One the one hand there is the story of the melt occurring over a large area and then there is this story that a large amount of ice is melting. The first is a non-event especially with all the particulate pollution probably causing it to happen faster. The second is more in line with AGW hypothesis.

It is ALL AGW BS.
Key words: ‘Ice two miles thick.’
and ‘This happens ever 150 years’
They also do not like to talk about the ‘thickening’ of Antartic ice OR the 10,000 ft high glaciers in the Rockies.
It happens like clockwork every 150 years. The enviros should be rejoicing – the earth isnt going to die – but they arent. They would rather be right and dead than wrong and alive (and prospering) – its easier that way.
With the last one happening in 1889, this event is right on time,” says Lora Koenig

“But if we continue to observe melting events like this in upcoming years, it will be worrisome.”
I’d say it would be worrisome.
“We” should be quite dead in 130+ years if the next event is “right on time”.
Keep up to date on the ice recovery.

So what, dizzy? The St.Roch went through from West to East 70 odd years ago. That, ladies and germs.is how the scam artists and cultists get away with “unprecedented”and “never seen before”etc crap. They direct it at KIDS and adults with kids minds, who think 100F today is a new world record.Of course it is,if your memory only goes back 0-30 years.
And Damn those Vikings for using their SUV’s,tractors, and coal burning heaters a 1000 years ago when they where farming Greenland.Just look at how they tipped the scale, and there is no more snow in Greenland! Oh wait.
“It’s clear that Canada’s search-and-rescue capabilities require an emergency upgrade.”
Or a notice that search and rescue might not be available and as we do not consider these to be navigable waters, the full cost will be charged.
Franklin almost made it through close to 200 years ago.
Justthinkin @ 8:11, you are right, this is exactly what is taking place, and many teachers are all too enthusiastic in teaching the kids this nonsense.

That’s right. But it took http://www.athropolis.com/links/nwpass.htm“ >2 years.
Now, the “infamous” http://tinyurl.com/9z78dhy “>Northwest passage by yacht is the latest Eurotrash sensation. [Visiting Antarctica is so passè]

While the “bewildered herd” is being led to believe that AGW is a hoax, the people who are paying for that PR campaign know better & are putting their money where their mouth isn’t —

Whoopie. Some nearby Inuit villages are also promised really good internet access.

This I didn’t know —

Hell. Three months. Obvously there never really was any ice there, eh?
